"Liberty Prevails"

Last evening was the reception for the "America" show at the Honeywell Center in Wabash, Indiana. While I have had this piece for some time, I asked the gallery director if there would be any issue with it being submitted to the show. She was fine with it as it had not hung there before, and it garnered me an Honorable Mention, and was hung directly behind the speakers podium, so yes, there is a microphone kind of visible in the photo!
By the time you are reading this, I will either be on my way to the Imagine Center or still sitting in a dither with coffee, hoping I can hot-foot it to the Imagine Center in time for my appointment!
Thanks to everyone for all the support yesterday. I'm posting this because it was too late when I got in to work, and I was too tired to boot.
You get a bonus post.
Is your day not MADE????? LOL!!!!
I am not sure if the quote on the top of the piece is readable when clicked; worse yet, I am too lazy to go get the quilt to post it here, but basically it thumbs it's nose at terrorism because in every culture blood has been shed in awful manners for liberty, and though Sept. 11th was heinous, we are still here.
We are still a country.
We still love and grieve and have our lives and go about our business and realize even more so now that liberty is a precious and valuable thing; not limited to man made structures but limited to what we allow our hearts and minds to accept and pursue.
Accept love and diversity, wisdom and pondering of such, and pursue the truth.
Always.

"Liberty Prevails"

I had forgotten to post that my fiber piece, "Liberty Prevails", was not only accepted in the Themed Show, but was given an Honorable Mention as well.
And I'm still going to make it up to Wabash to see what hung before the closing of the show!

It's Friday....RIGHT???

Because that means the only thing I have to do today is go to the Honeywell Center to meet the gallery director for lunch, and to pick up some work from a show that ended a while back. The picture above is part of the gallery, which circles a theater. It is large--very large--as I found when our three person fiber exhibit hung. That was a beautiful show, even if I do say so myself. It was an interesting blend of fiber work; three distinct styles and we mixed them all together through the gallery which at first I had great hesitation about. But it was beautiful and kept the eye from stopping at the end of one persons work. There was flow.
Last evening I went to the Maconaquah Elementary School Art Night, with some of the Co-Op people. I held a chair down---simply could not lug art. Next year, I shall lug again!!! It is a fun thing to go to; there are 700 pieces of art made by every school attendee hung all through the halls, then the professional artists are set up in the gym, where the kids and parents can walk through, ask questions or just look.
And yes, I should have stayed home because I was tired and sore but oh well. I was bad. (sorry Tristan......I really tried to listen to you!)
I did manage some time in the studio before I took off. Was all gussied up to go, and working with metal leaf. It ended up everywhere! On the work table, on ME, and some on the piece of art where it was intended. That probably was NOT the time to be doing that. This afternoon I am heading back down, and hopefully can grab an HOUR to really do a bit of work. I tend to grab minutes, and am learning to be content with those.
So enjoy your Friday; last I heard it is finally supposed to be good weather here and maybe I can open the sunroof on my car! And not freeze......
Thank God it's Friday!!! Go have fun!!!

I.....can't.......move.......

Spending a full day bent over the tables to lay in thread has taken a toll on this old decrepit body of mine. I did not even knit last evening...... Seriously, I can barely move, and I have to kick into second gear to get cleaned up and have lunch with the gallery director at the Honeywell Center. I have had work exhibited there before; it is a beautiful multi-media facility with an excellent restaurant in Wabash Indiana. If the name Honeywell sounds familiar, it is because they make thermostats, etc that are in thousands of homes. I always knew the name, even before I knew about the Center.
So I am allowing myself a bit of escape for the morning and then back to the tables this afternoon.
In the midst of all this work that needs doing, I started a silly collage/mixed media piece with a magazine pic of a dog in it. The dog is sitting on a purple cushion, *reading* a book and has fancy sunglasses and is wearing pearls. And it is a blond dog.......hmmmmm......I guess if I was a DOG....... So when that is a little closer to done, I will post it and you can be assured as you read that I have lost what little mind I have left and have also waded into the waters of "Crafty-Land". I am sure on the discussion of "ART--NOT ART", this one falls into the latter category! ;)
Now I'm outta here....I've got to look at least as groomed as the dog!!!
