WIP---or---How I Spent Yesterday

Okay, Party-grrrrl gave in to the overwhelming urge to make art yesterday. This picture was at the mid day point; I put some pieces on with gel medium and it required laying flat until dry, so there is more coming with this.
There is so much texture on this it doesn't show up well in photos (please click for a larger image); grit and gesso built up in layers, then fluid acrylics laid on in washes and wiped off. It has a nice feel. At present, with the work done after the photo, I am loving it more. The fleur de lys have color added, there is shading, more blue-green washes, etc. I'll post another photo tomorrow because by then it should be dry enough to prop up and not worry about something taking off for parts unknown.
It felt so GOOD to say to heck with everything yesterday and make art! Yes, work is piled up around me and there was some real paperwork I had to do but one trip to the wet studio and, WHAMMO! That was it. I succumbed with no fight.
And the day flew. Before I knew it, it was time to trot to the kitchen and do the domestic goddess thing.
I really need a twin that can slave away while I indulge in the passion of art. That would work out so much better! ;)

I wish I could take a workshop with you. What is the center thing made of? Clay? Are the fleur de lys stamped on? I look forward to seeing further results. I think this is all on a canvas, right? What might one use instead of canvas? Cardboard would warp. A piece of wood? As if I don't have enough projects going.

Jan, if you don't mind, I'll try and answer all the questions in tomorrows post. I think there is some good info to share.
The main thing with these is accepting the time involved. A lot of drying time and you can only hurry it so much.
Naturally, I'm using Golden mediums.
We need an on-line class for a small fee.....could we do that? Think there would be interest???

Jan said all I wanted to - and more succinctly than I would have!

This is a very inspiring piece!

Thank you---I'm having a good time; got started on the back today, so I guess tomorrow's post is the sort-of-done front.....they just change as I work. Then at some point, I know they are complete!

An online class? Could "we" do that? I could take it, but other than that I don't know what you mean by "we". I would be interested. Could you set up a separate blog and do tutorials on it, keep it private unless a person has permission to view it? Permission granted with a fee? I'm blogless, I don't know how they work.

anne, an online class is a cool idea. wish i knew more about how you could do it! i love these double sided pieces that you do and it is generous of you to share so much about process! it's very satisfying to watch the work develop. we need to have our own school! call it the school of hard knocks??? you make me so happy every day, thank you!

Girls---I am pretty sure you can set up a password protected blog, as you can with an invite only Yahoo group. The blog would be better because the pics would be on the page, where the Yahoo group would have a seperate file for them.
"We" being the communal---anyone you know, I advertise at Co-Op and beyond, etc.
It's something we all need to think about....it would require co-ordination on my part.
And it was Bernadette's class that taught me about the clay pieces.....she started all this!
