A Lovely Yarn....

At this house, that title can mean two things; I like the double entendre.
This time, it is literally referring to YARN, and the things that have kept these hands busy.
First of all, I started trying to knit up yarn I had, as I posted last Spring, for hats for Oncology.
Welllll..........that's a great idea, but I am left with MORE YARN. Yarn that I'm not sure where it is going. It's enough to keep but not enough for another hat.
Yes, some have stripes from like-yarn, but a lot were one shot wonders, so here I am with colorful leftovers. (at least there's no calories....)

I love grouping the hats and seeing the different textures in an abstract way~~beautiful. Fun how a basic pattern can look so different depending on the yarn, changing the knits and purls....it's a fun way to spend time.

I still have not made it down to Oncology due to being a bit under the weather (literally FROM this crazy weather!) but am sure they'll be well received when they get there. They're all lined up, ready to GO!
There is always a need.

While I was digging through the *trunk-o-yarn* I came upon some very expensive hand dye I bought almost two years ago.
Grinch colors.
I knit like a madwoman to get these done before the Holidays! Two pair at once on the circular needles....O--M--G!!! NEVER AGAIN. NEVER! EVER!
So DH and I both have *Grinchy-Claus* socks now. The photo is of mine.

I opted for the Latvian Band, and the heels of his are green.

So we could tell them apart.....other than he has his on all the time and I've left mine nice and neat on the sock forms. (yes, yes, way too anal...*sigh*)
The Evil Yarn People keep sending me e-mails of specials and sales and when I'm being a good girl --not often-- I delete those without even looking.
But then there are the ones from WEBS....and ooooooohhhhhhh........I just have to take a little tiny look......
I think I need therapy.
I think I need 4 extra hands to knit more, and learn to knit faster.
I think I need someone from "Hoarders" to come evaluate my stash........
(not really! seriously....NOT REALLY......)

Oh this looks awesome. I haven't even attempted socks yet! Somehow mittens seemed less intimidating and I made one pair and was done. I'll make all the hats forever, though I wish I could understand shawl patterns better. Then I would make all the shawls/scarves forever (and some hats)
yarns yarns everywhere!

Hey Stevie,

If you've knit mittens, you can do socks. The easiest way it from the toe UP, on two circulars. That way both socks get DONE.....ask me why I say that...lol!
Top down produces a nicer heel. You ought to try a pair in a worsted weight yarn.
Lion Brand yarn has a nice shawl pattern; I have them out here and was too lazy to get a photo! Just start with an E-Z one!

You're a mean one...ta de dum. What? Sorry I was singing. Oh, those YARNS! OMGGGG! Those colors are delicious. I would get nothing done, just drool and hum The Grinch theme song. And the matching socks are too funny. Be good, my little Grinchette! xox

Hahahaha Pam!
I'm telling you, *The Grinchettes* should have to wear socks like that!
Who said I ever GET anything done? Do you have any idea how long it took me to write this post? The brain was taking a real vaca there....
Listening to Brian Setzer's version of "Mr. Grinch".
He's ALMOST as good as we are......almost.....

Oh Anne! The colors! And I can see they are all so well done - you are an expert! My daughter knits a little and is going to take a class in January. She loves it too. She crochets because my mom taught her, but she want to knit too! Just beautiful, Anne! I love them all! My friend makes little cupcake hats for little girls; a brown band with the rest of the hat white with a red ball (cherry) on top and different colors yarn dots for sprinkles. They're cute! p.s. think I corrected my blog error...

Hey Corrine....

Just hand over your YARN and you won't get hurt...lol! ;-D
Not that I'm that LOW....well, sometimes. hahaha!

Hey April,

I'm far from an expert; I am what I consider an intermediate knitter. I have patterns I CANNOT figure out.
I used to crochet a lot because my grandmother taught me, but the arthritis in my hands works better with knitting. Less wrist movement.
I do love to knit though.......and buy yarn..... ;-D
And YES! Your blog is up and running!

what cute socks!! And all those hats will be well loved. You could makes God's eyes with all those leftovers.

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Had not thought of that Janet, tho most of the yarn is very bulky. I seem to recall doing them with lighter weight yarn.....
Yeah, I love my Grinch socks! ha!

Ahhhhh .... Knitting socks. As we both know... not my forte!! Love your socks. So festive!!
Just give me a complicated doily pattern & I am all in but socks???? They completely baffle me!!

Hey KJ,

Yes, the socks are very soft. The blend was bamboo, merino and if I recall correctly, a touch of cashmere. Very nice to the touch, very easy to slip right off the needles!!!
I just loved the colors if that mess of yarn.....I looked at them for a long time before shooting photos.

Hey Mary Helen,

Yes, I love to knit socks~~no magic involved, just sticking it out through many BAD PAIR and learning along the way! ;-)
And I do love knitting them.....hate to admit I have a drawer FULL. And enough yarn to knit a whole dresser full.....*sigh*

Hey Marilyn,

But in the sock dept, your loss was my gain and I thank you for that! I used to crochet very fine thread doilies until my arthritis started pitching a fit. Made some really nice ones. I've knit two out of thread, but even that is harder on me than socks.
I think I've done them long enough that I don't have to THINK too much, unless I'm working a design into the pattern!

How sweet you are to knit all those hats, Anne. I am sure they will be appreciated.
I LOVE all that colored yarn. I love just looking at it. Throw it all in a BIG wooden bowl and leave it on the floor. Your socks are SO COOL!!!!!! Oh, how I wish I could knit. Maybe this winter I will take a class ~ I would love to be able to knit big colorful throws.
Silly me. I collect all kinds of thread. Don't use it for anything, just like it a lot. Hope to use it someday. If I see a bag of colorful thread at a sale ~ cannot let it go. Home it goes with me. IT's a sickness!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love you. Love your hats. Love your socks.

Glad you finally finished the double sox from he--! They look great, what fun you will have wearing them! I agree with Audrey, put the rest of your yarn in a big bowl or basket and admire it.

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hey Audrey,

I ♥LOVE♥ knitting those hats! It is good for me (and my BP...lol!) as it's relaxing. I'm glad that I have Oncology to take them to, or everyone I know would be getting a HAT in the mail! ;-)
Take a knitting class; do one that is a small and quick SOMETHING. So you can learn the basics and not get burned out on the project. Too many people start with something hard or big, and never make it to the end. I am sure you could do this.

JAN!!!!

You are going to be on Santa's NAUGHTY List after TEMPTING me even in JEST!!! hahahahaha!
(resistance is futile....at least here...)
I too am glad those socks are done, and they are quite fun to wear! I don't do a lot of striped yarn in a plain stitch, usually a pattern for texture or depth, but these colors stood on their own. Of course, there's enough left for mitts like I made us years ago---I might try that AFTER Christmas! ;-)
Waaaaaay after......hahaha!
I may have to see if I have a spare basket or something interesting looking for the yarn.....hmmmmm......

Happy December to you...

Hey Gaby~~

You ought to try taking a knitting class! Basic knitting is not that hard with a good teacher. I taught myself, so there are things I do, bad habits, I cannot rid myself of.
And yes, I do so enjoy the colors in the socks.... :-)
Have a great month!
