Night Song

It is still dark.
The crickets sing with delightful abandon.
Outside, the moon is bright and casts
long shadows across the yard.
Cool air moves gently
and is sweet with the scent of
undetermined plants.
A parfum of the waning night.
I hear the trucks
on distant highway,
hurrying to meet their driving deadlines.
They are a melody over the
relentless rhythm of
cricket-song.
Chirp--chirp--chirp.
They play their symphony
frantically, without fail.
The sky is slowly softening toward light
 yet Luna,
so intense,
She wears a halo.
It is a fleeting Autumn moment.....
To be gone later in the hours.
But for now,
I savor being one of the
Autumn People.

anne! this is an amazing poem. you've set a scene that is so perfect for the last line admission you took my breath away.

you are one of the autumn people. good to know, don;t you think?

and anne: you are a poet. first class. i've known this from your banter poems with emily rabbit, but this one: rich and wistful and deep into the soul of things.

Hey Karen,

Thanks!
This is proof I write better BEFORE COFFEE!!! LOL!
Was up very early yesterday and had the studio door open....just enjoying the dark and the long shadows cast by the very bright moon.
And then I slipped out to try and get a photo, and then this.......
Spontaneity.
Cool air.
Waiting for Fall..... :-)

What a poem! Full of beauty and soul...(not as in *soul music*)....

I love La Luna.... wish I could have seen her - but you know why I couldn't..... today is - well, like yesterday, ant tomorrow...... grey.
But your poem bought glowing silver light to me!

I am an Autumn person too.....my favourite time of year...

Love,

♥ Robin ♥

Hey Robin!

Either *soul* would work for me~~and I wish I had a higher res camera because that halo around the moon was bigger and pinkish-red! Beautiful!
Save the pic and put it in your window...then grey or no grey, La Luna is there shining on you!
Ah Autumn...hear our call!

Lovely imagery. Of course this is a time of day for which I have never intentionally been awake...

Am I hearing you all talk about autumn?! I think I live in a different world - it's as summer here as it gets! And will stay that way for at least another six weeks. Please enjoy those crisp mornings for me... Love, Silke
