The Results of Yesterday's Studio Time....

Although I worked on a few other things, my primary focus was with the French piece. It just called to me, which was odd because of the original ideas floating in the matter of my brain, this one wasn't there at all. It was a last minute whim from the time spent not being able to glue.....just cutting papers and fitting.
I decided the background, though lovely, was taking away from what I wanted the focus to be; the large heart, the flowers and the Eiffel Tower. So I mixed a bit of gesso and soft gel medium, and put just enough on to tone the areas that were too bright. (see yesterday's post for a photo of how it was without the gesso. there really is a difference, though it seems subtle)
Now things moved forward and there was a bit of pleasant visual depth forming, the picture frame and necklace seemingly floating, but anchored by the diagonals of the flowers, heart and tower.

I added the three small heart to the necklace chain, pulling in the reds from both corners and the larger heart in the upper left. German glass glitter was added around the large heart, and a bit of fluid acrylic to bring up the color.
I then decided the tower needed some emphasis and softening too.....and grabbed a graphite pencil and a tortillion (paper stump) and worked around the edges of it, laying down graphite and rubbing it in with the paper stump. When it is given a coat of workable fixative, I think it will be where I want it.

And finally, a close up of everything.....to see the texture and shiny bits a little better!
Today, if I feel like it, it's on to finishing this one and then starting another I have peices cut for, plus working on the two little 4"x4" panels posted yesterday. They don't need a lot, but they need things that are downstairs, in the wet studio.
See, I told you before it was all over I would have everything upstairs on the sewing table.
Sigh.
Ah well, that's how it goes!
Now off for a bit of work before good old nap time rears it's ugly head and I am forced to the couch with a soft and lovely afghan!  ;-)
And onto the list of other things  not working today, my signature code doesn't seem to be behaving and showing up in lovely red script......there may be a blank box. I just too lazy to change it!
Have a beautiful, productive day, whatever it is you choose to do!

Pax.

Hi Marilyn,

I actually slept all the way thru last night; I feel pretty good but each day is knowing I have *X* amount of work time and then *X* amount of resting time. I have had to accept that.
I probably worked a bit too much yesterday, but that was good for me mentally and that helps physically. I really am doing what I'm supposed to!!! (that's why it snowed and is so damned COLD!!! LOL!!!)
Take care and stay warm!

Love this! I just wish I could eyeball it up close. These images beg to be used again - as in licensing...package went out yesterday, with a piece of added silk in it - but don't get too excited, because you can barely see the pattern on it - but I figured you could work your magic!

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Thanks Linda!

I like how it worked...I basically just finished it I think (LOL) and will leave it sit till tomorrow and then decide.
Working on some small ones now and then cut some more paper hearts....MAYBE!!!
Will let you know when the package gets here---thanks! :)

Yes, Marianne, I could not FUNCTION without GOOD gesso. I think of all the tools I use, and there are a lot, gesso is right at the top with the Golden gel mediums. It has so many possibilities!
Now I'm off to check dinner---if it doesn't get started early in the morning, I have no oomph to do it later! LOL!!! Crab and corn chowder...good for a cold day!

I love Paris and 12 years ago this week I was In Paris for the very first time with our smaller version of Signatures in Fabric at the Herve Blanc gallery...down the street from the Pompidou Contemporary Gallery. Just remembering this small moment makes me smile. I love your comment on my blog yesterday Dr. Anne. :-)
Imagine and Live in Peace in your naps. Mary Helen

look for an angel arriving at your doorstep...I should have added beads and paints but maybe in the future.

Ah, lucky you, being in the beautiful city! Gary was there once briefly---he said he would love to go back---I cannot sit on a plane that long! <:)
And a goodie coming my way? Why, yes, I shall keep my eyes open for it and let you know when it gets here! Merci!
Now after studio, the chowder for dinner, a coffe cake baked and a short waddle on the treadmill, I think indeed I am Rx'ing a NAP!!!! LOL!!!

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

LOL!!! Only in my dreams, and that is providing they cooperate!
Frankly, I'd rather be off to New Orleans, which is the next best thing...... :)
I'm not going anywhere other than the couch for a while! HAHAHA!!!

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Yep, you polish him up quite nice DEB!!!!! LOL!!!
I should be ashamed, but not a bone in the body that is, nor the new artifical hip. It's learned to live in *Anne-Ville*.....HA!
I need to get back to the table for a few more of the canvas panels---I think they are nicer than a paper card? Sturdy?
Have fun.... >:)

You are the best for stopping by and helping with the tunes of the 80s. For sure on the Cyndi, Ramones and Eurthmics. Have to check out the "I melt with you.".

Great to hear someone else take their music seriously....chuckle-chuckle

Awwww...this has turned out gorgeous, Anne!...a perfect Valentine! You amaze me in that you seem to instinctly know what a piece needs! I just bet the German glitter adds a lot...not too much, just enough! I have not used mine yet..got sidetracked with the watercolor classes, i guess! ...I tend to go in too many directions at times!
So wonderful seeing you being productive again..it must feel soooo good! I am happy to say i feel quite a bit better today..i'm even venturing out for a bit...as a trial! lol! its cold, but sun is out...wheee!

Hey, for DH and I, if the house was to burn (god forbid!) We'd be haulingthe over 1200, yes, 1200 ALBUMS, not to mention the too numerous CDs out at our own health risks!!! It is serious here; Gary used to be a DJ. He plays guitar, I (well, used to!) play bass....music and art are our lives!
Hope you have fun with my list!

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

hey Gypsy!

Glad you're feeling better, have worried about you and if it was indeed something minor but painful.
The glass glitter was *perfect*....not too gaudy, just enough glimmer, totally different from todays stuff. I will use new micro glitter on some of the other pieces, where it will be just right, but the Frech piece needed the real deal.
Who knows what processes work in this head??? I just treat it like getting dressed--this works with this and that and this would be a good accent, etc.....
In other words, I don't think! LOL!

This turned out lovely, you certainly have a way with gesso! And all of your other supplies too, of course. I might have all the same supplies but your talent is what brings these things together so well. Good job!

Okay, now I want to go to Paris and it's all your fault. It's lovely, Anne!! Sorry to be so late in stopping by, school is in session once again and so my days don't slow down until the evening. xoxoxo Pam

Hey Anna,

Yes--that would be fun! Most of my work, I compare to a mad scientist type.....just start off and keep going until it looks like something and sort of works! LOL!!!

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Oh Jan, you know I looooooove my gesso!!!! HA! (which proves I have cabin fever and no life.....)
I've just learn to USE the supplies. That's all. It is anything anyone else could learn the technique, and then make it their own.
This is NOT brain surgery.... :D

I don't know how you get done all you do---do you have extra hours in the day or am I just an exceedingly SLOW old fart????
Let's all go to PAris and charge it to our DH's or some significant other.....waaaaaay other!!!
