Collage Pair Done! (unbelievable.....)

I have come to the conclusion that I am slower than the seven year itch about getting things done that I should. Such as, the simple photos of these.
They have laid on the table a couple of days, finished, waiting and while I decided it was much more entertaining to make merry with a baby pic of myself, the art was languishing in the computer, pounding and yelling at me to be posted.
Thus, for your approval, the pair. I like them. I know I should be a better critic, but, I just plain like them. The way they work side by side, the way the square sets off the odd and unequal rectangular shapes, the botanical stamps......I can't be a good judge here.

Previously, I felt the colors were too bright and everything was too rigid and straight; that the pieces did not meld into the background better. I had tried a few types of gel mediums and ended up wiping them all off--they were not *it*. Then I decided I would try one of my template marking pencils, but it was upstairs and I was lazy (okay, I did not feel physically like running up two flights of steps....) but on the table in front of me was a soft graphite pencil. I looked at it, it looked at me......I tentatively tried a tiny bit. Perfect. PERFECT! Better than the other would have been by far! The embossing was picked up, the brush strokes of medium, everything began to take on a slightly aged and lived in look, exactly like I wanted! And all due to my complete and utter sloth-dom....  ;-)  Hey, there are perks for laziness, though few.......
Or maybe this is one of those happy accidents that makes art so pleasing and exciting, and constantly a learning process. I don't know, nor do I care. They are as I mentally visualized them! What more could I ask for?
Do click the photos; they should enlarge enough to see some of the small details.
Thanks to everyone for the birthday greetings yesterday, cyber and in hand---all y'all are a fine bunch of bloggers and blog readers! But you knew that already, yes?
Content may be sparse as I prepare for surgery next week. I'm hoping to at least produce a few more ATCs but honestly, sleep seems to be what I'm doing well at the moment.
I hope everyone has a great weekend, a creative time during this festive season, and truly above all else,
I bid you......

Pax.

These are glorious!!!!! And sleep is good - especially with surgery coming up. These have to be sold as a pair - I can't imagine one without the other - spectacular!

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Neither can I Linda, although, they really can stand on their own. But as a pair, there is something *more*.
I'm just so relieved they turned out as they were going through that ugly stage where I wasn't sure they would be revived at all.... ;)

They would look beautiful side by side, Anne. They would look beautiful all by their lonesome, too. I think you have a win win here! :) Sleep, my friend, get that energy reserve built up!! Maybe it's time for some holiday comedies? Or just comedies? Or brandy? hahah! xoxoxox Pam

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

hey Pam,

I think we both could use some, ummmm, *holiday spirits*!!!! And I can't have any because, of couse, it thins your blood. So I'm hoping everyone else has a few in my honor!!! Or more than a few if the *spirit* strikes them. LOL!!!
Hope you got caught up a bit---I know you need sleep too!!
Off to the ATC table....for short bit.

Thanks Marianne!!!
I've been having trouble with things showing up in the comments....I might get them in e-mail and hours later they post, or not at all.
Yes, I am all for accidents, or experiments, or whatever they might be called! LOL!!!

I really do like these, too. They do look old and lived in ... and I love the colors.

They should definitely be pair, no question!

Thanks Tristan...

I wish you could see me right now. The sump pump hose exploded and I am a combination of lime build-up, mud and blood where I cut myself on *something*.
Ah, the adventures of country living!!! LOL!!!
Have to get the duct tape, plastic and I suppose a band-aid.....

I love the colors and the dark around the outside. The inside focals pop!
I think that not having what you need has given you another path to the outcome, that is a good thing.
Anne, these pieces are just outstanding.
Have a great weekend.
Good and healing thoughts coming to you from over here.
Love and hugs.

Thanks Marie! When I did a lot of fiber art, it always seem the pieces that did not have what *I* thought I needed turned out the best.
It's that pushing aside preconceptions and opening the mind thing.
I can't open mine to far for fear of it falling OUT!!! LOL!!!
Appreciate the thoughts....mucho.

Crap! I feel very sorry for your sump pump plumbing line explosion, you know I do. What next!?? I'm glad you have your art and these pieces are wonderful. Two peas in a pod, two lovely pieces of art in a frame.

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Well, it was fixable Jan. You know, just jump in and do it before something floods! LOL!
I don't want to think *what next*, and neither should YOU!
I never thought of putting these in one frame.....hmmmmmm.... :)

I am in awe of these gentle images and I do so love the colors and happy accidents that we discover in the process of making our art. Happy Belated Birthday...I was so exhausted that I could not read very much on the computer...the family has kept us very busy with a multitude of questions and desire for more information. Imagine and Live in Peace, gather your thoughts in peace and quiet as you prepare for your next surgery experience. You are so loved! Mary Helen

CONGRATULATIONS! You won the prize draw - so let's collaborate on the style of header that you'd like - although I already have a good idea, just looking at your blog.

Of course, if you really don't want a header I'll make you a book instead, and you can choose from a Japanese stab-bound album, a Kiss journal (the stitching makes an X on the spine, forming the kiss) or a Coptic book. In which case you'll get it after Christmas (the header would be in the next couple of days). Plus I would need your address and choice of colours etc.

CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN!

Hi Mary Helen,

Good Lord, you shouldn't worry about not hopping by; I was worried about you and Ken both and know the # of calls one gets when a family member has an emergency. Just take it easy!
I think, all in all, happy accidents ARE real art....we start with a vision, but the art takes us to where we need to be to avoid things becoming stilted. You think?

They are beautiful, Anne. And you're not slower than the 7 day itch...I AM! I have failed to do one artful thing in almost two weeks now. I'm lucky enough to get through one day at a time....again...right now. Ugh. :( Wish we lived closer to each other, as I could use your daily personal inpsiration.

Sophia,

I'm as close as e-mail, except for the blasted interruption this week for surgery. But the next week, I am hoping to be back on the go...NOT RUN!!! LOL!....but to some sort of normalcy!
TAke care dear!
