With each of my short little treks to the basement, this is slowly what I created. I started this on the Monday Art Day I had with one of my friends, then catching bits and pieces of time here and there, finished it up yesterday. The actual color is a bit richer blue but being the lazy soul I am (or read that, feeling as poorly as I have) I chose to leave the photos as is. It's pretty close and that, for once, is good enough for me.
Jan, I made this for you, but you're going to have to wait until after the next Co-Op meeting for it to be shipped. It's theme night and the theme chosen was "Peacock" and, well, who better to depict?
I made collage paper from some of the photos you had sent (especially the one of his tail) and then used all sorts of other items, including the metal leaf flakes that ended up pretty much everywhere! You can see them a bit in the photo--they show up more on the actual canvas. There are large puzzle pieces collaged and Paperclay bits---it was fun to try and figure out how to bring it all together and have that over the top look of a peacock without getting too busy. I'm on the edge of that.....
I also experimented with different finishes of varnish on this; matte, satin and gloss and there is some distinct advantages to being careful in applying them so that they all show. It helps to provide a bit more visual depth in some of the areas.
So that is what I have been up to---hopefully it looks as good here as it did during the making.
Have a good week everyone---make something, enjoy this blooming Spring, make the most of your day!

Now I'm even more disappointed that I missed Monday Art Day. I'd really like to see you work.
You know where I live Kiddo!!! Just call first so you know I'm home!
Anne, when you were working on this I wondered what you were gonna do to give it some "punch" and the adding of purple and gold leaf did it. It turned out to be a lovely tribute to Mr. Mel who you told me about. I know your friend will cherish your homage to him.
And Vicki,we do wish you had been there too :~)
We need another art day......have to try and work in into everyone's schedules!!!
And hey, I was wondering where the punch was coming from too! LOL!!!!
Things just have to stew in the cellar......... :)
Wow, this sure caught me by surprise this morning! I can't believe that you are gifting me this! It is fabulous, I love all parts of it and will definitely cherish it. Love the gold leaf and after hearing about your application of it and how it got everywhere will appreciate it even more. It is a beautiful tribute to Mr. Mel who I am missing when I wander through my yard these days. Where is my big blue boy? Why is it so quiet here? Thank you, Anne. You keep it as long as you like. Wow, you really did like Mr. Mel, didn't you!
Yes, I loved the stories about him; the honking, the mischief, the posturing and fanning, the gifts of feathers, and I suppose it is because I have always wanted to own a peacock (but figure I would be sued!) that I felt like a surrogate *mom* to him. Or Auntie.
Co-Op is the third Wednesday of the month, so it will be after that.
This is not a huge piece---I think 6 x 12 or 8 x 12....whatever canvas I pulled out that just *looked right*, you know, my usual superior planning! LOL!!!
The design goes around the edges, so it does not need framing!
You have no idea how hard it was not to let this slip in a post on here....... ;)
I love it! What a great tribute to Mr. Mel. I hope the use I have put to his feathers that I have do him such honour as well.
Sure wish you would get back on your feet and feeling better.
Me too Leslie. I have things to do and people to annoy....not necessarily in that order! HA!
And I've not forgotten I owe you and Tristan work, so it is on my *Important List*.
Things NOT on there:
housework
laundry
mopping
yard
dishes
etc.
etc.
LOL!!!!!

Tristan, where DO you find all these cool vintage pics????
Anne, bowing as she can! ;)
Such great layering of imagery in this piece Anne. And I love it that it is Mr. Mel.
This was fun, but hard.....all that color, and all bright and fighting for equal attention. But playing with the varnish finishes helped a lot; I am thinking that is something I may do more of in the future.

Talk to me Dahling!
I'm waiting, breathless...... ;-D
