The Tools Of The Inner Artist

Poor book......I'll have more scribbles than the actual text....*sigh*

I had mentioned in my previous post about working the Artists Way book.
WORKING.
Not just passively reading.
Sometimes, just like our cars, the Inner Artist needs a tune up; a little fresh oil, a part or two replaced and the bugs worked out. Bad stuff flushed out and new clean fluid put in.
Occasionally it takes an almost abrupt creative stoppage for me to see this and do the work. I think that frequently there is so much input from the outside world that we, as creatives, take this all and hold it internally until there is no room for new ideas, dreaming, growth and refilling that well. We are exposed to so much media that it is almost impossible to shut it all out, and I suspect it accumulates within.
Then there are the other obstacles of life; trying to work out the business end of art, dealing with the bumps and stalls unique to that aspect, attempting to do so with grace and not become a floor mat. We are not here to have whatever squeezed out for free, we have a voice and deserve respect.
*sigh*
For the good old days when a persons word was their bond.
I digress. The work at hand requires TIME but is not unpleasant. Before my studio day starts, I do the inner work.

Words flow, thoughts perk, and of course I love BRIGHT so that is an enticement to keep on with the tune-up!
Things remove themselves, decisions become clear, old issues still lingering and festering must be faced head on......it's an interesting journey.
Affirmations are read daily, and I pull them from one of the little blue and white Oriental cups.
Today's seems to sum it up for me....

I am.
I really am.
And by whatever name you call this divine spirit, I ask~~~
Are YOU???

The Artist's Way was what gave me my jumpstart to what I'm doing now many years ago. Revisiting it could be a good idea to replenish and see it from a new perspective since I now define myself as an artist.
Funny that my eyes were bleary enough this morning to read " A person's world was their pond" Fitting still, I think!

Hey Kim,

It is totally different the second time around. I was surprised (pleasantly) at what I was gleaning NOW.....and if I did it again in 5-7 years, I wonder what would pop out then?
Plus I love the bright pens...LOL!

Hey Caio,

You have all this...you know? You create with spirituality; you are the verse in the last photo!
You just want my shiny, super bright (super CHEAP!) writing pens! ;-D

It's always good to slow down and re-assess the situation. BRIGHT works for me.

Hey Jo,

Can you tell I like BRIGHT???? LOL!
Sometimes it's fun to find those cheap and funky colored pens and pencils and just enjoy working with them.
I have to regroup every once in a while, especially before big work.
It's a good thing....

Stoppage, yup. I agree that sometimes it take a complete halt before the juices flow again. The creative spiritual well is deep and we need to trust our spiritual path where it takes us. xox Corrine

Hey Corrine,

I just was super stressed this year (I think a lot of people were) and the next thing I knew....NOTHING.
Today is a nice gentle day back into a little painting and some studio pick up~~the things that have to be done in between the real work.
And it's been good too!

Thanks Karen!

Other than tired tonight, I am feeling centered and good and enjoying the book and pages.
I've learned I can't write eloquently in the morning, but then that's okay.
I can't write eloquently half the tie, but I slop paint really well, and stitch too! :-D

Cool composition books, I would expect nothing less from you! Good luck on your journey, I know you will benefit from this go-round. This has been a funny summer, I wonder what is in store for us next? Hopefully a huge burst of wonderful creativity! I'll be watching us both.

Hey Jan,

I bet after this odd and stressful summer, the creativity will pour when it hits. I have already got an idea stewing...and looking forward to a day to work on it.
Love those crazy kid-colored notebooks and pens! What can I say???

I'm back from my travels (almost, off again today but just for the weekend) and my head is filled with all I've seen. I've started to blog about it but what I've seen of my country is mysterious and magnificent and I'll need to mull it all over for a while.
I feel ready to get into the studio, so I hope that lasts. And I will definitely get out The Artist's Way for another go round - see what a good influence you are. xx

Hey Carol,

Sounds like your creative well was filled very good while out and about! Isn't it wonderful to see the ideas return?
Glad I did this post about the Artists Way~~I think we all have it and forget about it....maybe it's just a good time for review!

Hey Lori,

I have the most fun pulling a strip of paper daily from that jar! It is such a simple thing, but I get to mull which one to pull, and then read and think, and write it so I don't forget.
Sometimes the small pleasures are what make the day.... :-)
