26 Years Ago.......

......we exchanged vows, and time has passed by fast.
We were married in a blizzard of such proportion that the State Police were shutting down the main roads, I had to be picked up in an old four wheel drive by one of Gary's office workers to make it to the Base, and then we had to find the Chaplain and drag the poor man out into the snow....all in the middle of the worst winter storm we'd seen in years.
I would insert a smart remark here but I think it was somehow appropriate!
Neither of our families could attend, it was just us, the office and a Methodist minister! (shades of denominations to come...)
The chapel where we were married is still standing but with the sale of most of the acreage when the Active Duty left, I am not sure if it is used or just languishing in disrepair.
26 years....
Too fast, it passes......
Happy Anniversary my dear hubby; I hope you can tolerate me another 26!!!

Love....

Well, congratulations, Anne and Gary!! 26 years is quite an accomplishment - my hat is off to you!!! What a difference to our wedding - we were married in Germany on the hottest day on record. The only place cool was the old, old, church with the thick walls. No air conditioning anywhere... They still talk about how at our wedding as much water was drunk as beer - unheard of!! LOL! TSUP!!! Silke

Silke Powers said...

Oh, totally forgot to say that I love the card you made...

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

LOL!!!

Yes, that sounds like the Polar Opposite of our day! And I'm laughing at the water/beer ratio....living over in Germany, yep. I get that one!
I need to photograph the card....I was too lazy or tired to do that too. Busy day yesterday.
Off for a good day today!

TSUP!

Oh Anne Sweetie...
Happy Anniversary to you and Gary. A beautiful photo of the two of you. I love it.

Sounds like you had the perfect wedding sweet one. Ones that start out in hectic always survive. You have already weathered the storm.

Have a beautiful day sweetie. Many hugs and much love, Sherry

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hey Sherry!

Yes, we have weathered enough storms; the military life seems to throw them at you! We just hang tight and off we go!
I remember at 16 years I was ordering food from a small company in New Orleans and the lady said that was amazing for folks now to stay married that long.....wonder what she'd think at this point!

Congratulations! 26 years! Another year and you'll have been married as long as I've been alive (since I stopped aging at 27 - ha!). There's something so nice about being together a long time -- comfortable love, I call it. Best wishes for another 26.

My grandmother (who was married for nearly 60 years) always said that the first hundred years together are the hardest.

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hey Karen!

That is a perfect quote from your grandmother...LOL!! Yeah, after that I suppose you don't know who you're sitting next to, so it's not a big deal!
It is nice to be completely comfortable with your spouse...it comes with time and I think a lot of folks now don't work through the early years to see what is ahead is the best. :-)

I had a young married person ask me once how we stayed married so long; I told them marriage was a job, you work at it every day if you want it to last. They seemed surprised but thought it was *cool* someone had been married as long as us.
The time goes fast..... ;-)

Ohhhhh, what a fabulous photo! And on Bourbon St!

Happy, happy, happy anniversary, dear Anne and Gary! I was just telling my kids that blooper weddings are the best, because you have the most colorful stories to tell years on down the road. No one really talks about the picture perfect weddings. Yours was definitely one to remember!

Hi Anne, I saw your comment on Gloria's blog and thought as a fellow hoosier I would stop and check yours out. We were in Fort W. for a while and I thought perhaps with the topic you were up around that direction. Love the music. Nice touch.

Hey Girls,

Yeah, everything Gary and I do seems to involve an *adventure*---bought my wedding dress two days before the date, he had to buy a suit as I recall, did not even have a bouquet because the florist couldn't get flowers! LOL!
And I wouldn't change a thing....I can't understand the massive amounts of money spent on weddings when they could go to important things...like ART SUPPLIES!!!! LOL!!

Hi Robin!

Thanks for dropping by.
I am about 2 hours from Ft. Wayne; actually that is where my Ortho is. Love going up and having someplace to shop when I get a chance~~plenty of good bookstores with the schools up there.
I am smack-dab in the middle of NOWHERE...LOL!!! (sometimes that's good, sometimes not) We're in the country; Kokomo and Logansport are the closest cities.
Glad you commented--take care!

were we separated at birth? I had a similar wedding -just my husband and i who traveled through a snowstorm in flagstaff to get to sedona and get married on some cosmic rock...just us and the preacherman.

I loved your comment about the languid south waiting for a reason to change. brilliant!!! i was jealous i hadnt written that myself.

Luck man that married you 26 years ago. COngratulations!

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hey chickory,

LOL!!! I think, as I blog more, we of the same spirit sort of gravitate towards each other! Your wedding sounds more exciting though!!!
You know, parts of me miss the South, and I think it is mostly the land and definitely the FOOD....there are things I don't miss. (those things have moved right up to Indiana...)
I always think of it as a rich, layered memory that stays the same. Everything lush and green and a slow pace of life.
Ahhhhhh....... ;-)
