26 Years Ago.......

......we exchanged vows, and time has passed by fast.
We were married in a blizzard of such proportion that the State Police were shutting down the main roads, I had to be picked up in an old four wheel drive by one of Gary's office workers to make it to the Base, and then we had to find the Chaplain and drag the poor man out into the snow....all in the middle of the worst winter storm we'd seen in years.
I would insert a smart remark here but I think it was somehow appropriate!
Neither of our families could attend, it was just us, the office and a Methodist minister! (shades of denominations to come...)
The chapel where we were married is still standing but with the sale of most of the acreage when the Active Duty left, I am not sure if it is used or just languishing in disrepair.
26 years....
Too fast, it passes......
Happy Anniversary my dear hubby; I hope you can tolerate me another 26!!!

Okay. (Sorry, caps lock). TSUP!

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Ces, LOL!!!

Hey, it's an *all caps* kinda day.
It is pretty much like the day we married, except there isn't 4 feet of snow! (thank God...)

Linda Moran said...

Congratulations!! Great story, and the pic is fantastic!!!! Youse guys have a great day!

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Thanks Linda!

I think I'm taking the day off from everything as soon as I finish on the computer... ;-)

Silke said...

Well, congratulations, Anne and Gary!! 26 years is quite an accomplishment - my hat is off to you!!! What a difference to our wedding - we were married in Germany on the hottest day on record. The only place cool was the old, old, church with the thick walls. No air conditioning anywhere... They still talk about how at our wedding as much water was drunk as beer - unheard of!! LOL! TSUP!!! Silke

Silke said...

Oh, totally forgot to say that I love the card you made...

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Yes, that sounds like the Polar Opposite of our day! And I'm laughing at the water/beer ratio....living over in Germany, yep. I get that one!
I need to photograph the card....I was too lazy or tired to do that too. Busy day yesterday.
Off for a good day today!

Married in a blizzard!?! Time has passed by quickly...I remember your anniversary LAST year! Hey! That makes it OUR anniversary too! Oh happy day. **kisses** Deb

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Oh yes Deb....it was a HUM-DINGER. I still say our getting married cause some sort of Cosmic Commotion...LOL!!!
IS this your anniversary????

Country Wings in Phoenix said...

Oh Anne Sweetie...
Happy Anniversary to you and Gary. A beautiful photo of the two of you. I love it.

Sounds like you had the perfect wedding sweet one. Ones that start out in hectic always survive. You have already weathered the storm.

Have a beautiful day sweetie. Many hugs and much love, Sherry

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hey Sherry!

Yes, we have weathered enough storms; the military life seems to throw them at you! We just hang tight and off we go!
I remember at 16 years I was ordering food from a small company in New Orleans and the lady said that was amazing for folks now to stay married that long.....wonder what she'd think at this point!

Janet Ghio said...

Happy anniversary! I hope the blizzard doesn't repeat for today!

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Oh Janet!!!

Me too! What is here is enough. I think it is just supposed to be COLD...nothing more.
I'm afraid to check the weather these days...LOL!!!

marianne said...

Happy Anniversary, Anne and Gary! I am wishing you many more eventful (haha) and wonderful years together. xox!!

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hey marianne,

Something with a nice Moscato....

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hey Pam,

EVERYTHING around here seems to be eventful, but not always the way I am planning...hahahaha!!!
Gary said he's going to live to be at least 100 so he can draw his pension a long time! LOL!
That's my man!!!

Karen S said...

Congratulations! 26 years! Another year and you'll have been married as long as I've been alive (since I stopped aging at 27 - ha!). There's something so nice about being together a long time -- comfortable love, I call it. Best wishes for another 26.

My grandmother (who was married for nearly 60 years) always said that the first hundred years together are the hardest.

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hey Karen!

That is a perfect quote from your grandmother...LOL!! Yeah, after that I suppose you don't know who you're sitting next to, so it's not a big deal!
It is nice to be completely comfortable with your spouse...it comes with time and I think a lot of folks now don't work through the early years to see what is ahead is the best. :-)

Gloria said...

Happy Anniversary to both of you and may you have another 26 years. Congratulations! We will be having our 29th year together on Feb 14. Yes, we got married on that day. Tee Hee. Enjoy the day with your life partner. Take care.

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Oh Gloria--that's ROMANTIC! (and easy to remember too!)
29, wow---it is good to have the big numbers on these, yes???

studio lolo said...

Congrats on a not-so-easy landmark! I say that for even the best of marriages. We just hit 23 years and sometimes I wonder how!

I love the picture above. Nice!

Here's to 26 more ;)

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

I had a young married person ask me once how we stayed married so long; I told them marriage was a job, you work at it every day if you want it to last. They seemed surprised but thought it was *cool* someone had been married as long as us.
The time goes fast..... ;-)

Lost Aussie said...

Congratulations on a lovely long journey together. May the path continue for you both.

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Thanks Marie!

I am awaiting the next half of the journey!

Congrats on 26 years. Bad weather at the wedding is supposed to be good luck so you are living proof.
David and I got married outside in a thunderstorm.... have a happy at least another 26 and more...xox Corrine

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Thanks Diana!

I think we have finally begun to *look like each other*.....that means we have to stay together! LOL!!! :-D

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

OMGosh Corrine!

I think I'll take the blizzard over the thunderstorm!
Yes, I guess if we survive natures temper tantrums, it's all easier after that! (or at least you have a clue what to expect...hahaha!)

Karin Bartimole said...

blessings for many happy, healthy years together more! Happy anniversary Anne!!! ❤ K

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Thanks Karin!
I'm hoping we both hold up till 50 yrs, but DANG!
I'll be old and have lost my girlish figure by then...hahahaha! (and my memory.....)

Georgina said...

Well congrats, you newly weds!!! LOL 26 years years...wonderful...you've broken all sorts of records and stats in this country as far as wedded bliss...or just wedded! LOl

Congratulations again, to you and Gary...you're a great couple and yes, I'm sure he'll put up with you another 26, as you will put up with him!!

I am sure we have broken records. I'm not sure which ones...LOL!!!
It's a good day!

Happy Anniversary! What a way to have a wedding though!

Bella Sinclair said...

Ohhhhh, what a fabulous photo! And on Bourbon St!

Happy, happy, happy anniversary, dear Anne and Gary! I was just telling my kids that blooper weddings are the best, because you have the most colorful stories to tell years on down the road. No one really talks about the picture perfect weddings. Yours was definitely one to remember!

Robin said...

Hi Anne, I saw your comment on Gloria's blog and thought as a fellow hoosier I would stop and check yours out. We were in Fort W. for a while and I thought perhaps with the topic you were up around that direction. Love the music. Nice touch.

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hey Girls,

Yeah, everything Gary and I do seems to involve an *adventure*---bought my wedding dress two days before the date, he had to buy a suit as I recall, did not even have a bouquet because the florist couldn't get flowers! LOL!
And I wouldn't change a thing....I can't understand the massive amounts of money spent on weddings when they could go to important things...like ART SUPPLIES!!!! LOL!!

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hi Robin!

Thanks for dropping by.
I am about 2 hours from Ft. Wayne; actually that is where my Ortho is. Love going up and having someplace to shop when I get a chance~~plenty of good bookstores with the schools up there.
I am smack-dab in the middle of NOWHERE...LOL!!! (sometimes that's good, sometimes not) We're in the country; Kokomo and Logansport are the closest cities.
Glad you commented--take care!

audrey said...

Congratulations, Gary and Anne!! Sending best wishes, hugs, and kisses to you two lovebirds!! Best wishes and I hope you have another 26 years filled with one adventure after another!!
♥♥♥ audrey

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Thanks Audrey!

I'm all tarted up in a skin-tight red dress, ready to hit the road for dinner! (I think there's more of me than the dress can handle....ah-hahaha!!!!)

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hey all~~

Thanks so much!
We had a lovely evening; dinner out, a bit of shopping and then home to watch a movie.
Today is back to the grind day....
Work in the studio, house, mail to get bundled, etc.
I have a list! LOL! Now if I don't lose it....or give out before it's done! :-D

chickory said...

were we separated at birth? I had a similar wedding -just my husband and i who traveled through a snowstorm in flagstaff to get to sedona and get married on some cosmic rock...just us and the preacherman.

I loved your comment about the languid south waiting for a reason to change. brilliant!!! i was jealous i hadnt written that myself.

Luck man that married you 26 years ago. COngratulations!

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hey chickory,

LOL!!! I think, as I blog more, we of the same spirit sort of gravitate towards each other! Your wedding sounds more exciting though!!!
You know, parts of me miss the South, and I think it is mostly the land and definitely the FOOD....there are things I don't miss. (those things have moved right up to Indiana...)
I always think of it as a rich, layered memory that stays the same. Everything lush and green and a slow pace of life.
Ahhhhhh....... ;-)
