Waiting.......

I am waiting most impatiently for Fall.
The insects will have had their way with the bindweed.....
All nectar gone and then to dry.

...The hints of the season tease me as I mow.
Wild grapes filling from all the Summer storms yet ragged
from the same.....
Lush, still, amidst the steam.

....Heat and humidity have brought me to my knees....
I and the leaf have much in common.
We wait for the first crisp wind, to blow us to another season.

And yes, I am ready to spread my wings
and fly far from this hellish Summer;
that has imprisoned me indoors,
has made my flowers bloom amd fade,
and proved to be too much.
Where are you Autumn?
Do you hear my call?

Pax....

Hi Anne-my husband and I were talking about this yesterday. It has just been a brutal summer this year in the midwest, hasn't it!! Just terrible. But then, he reminded me about how in the winter we would look longingly at the porch, because we wanted to sit out there and how we have to take the dog for a walk when it is so cold---but fall--if it would just remain fall for all winter-wouldn't it be grand!!

Oh, are we on the same wavelength or what?!? I cannot wait to visit Germany later this month and am hoping I'll get to wear long pants and long-sleeved shirts. Maybe even a sweater... Here's wishing for fall!! Love, Silke

I love Fall Janet. Usually by August I've just had enough of allergies and mowing, but as you said---this has been a brutal Summer, and violent in some areas. Though I whine in Winter, Fall is the perfect time of year!
Yes, we need Spring and Fall all year long! (do you think we could arrange that???)

Anne...thinking there is a storm on thehorizon right now....

Yes Silke!
The thought of a sweather and hand knit socks....a nice scarf, my leather jacket. The sweet scent of turning leaves in the air and the quality of light that Autumn holds!
I am ready!
I hope you get a nice coolvacation in Germany!

Oh, Anne! Can I sing the "Get This Summer Over With Already!" anthem with you? We have another icky hot day today. I feel like I have been outside for about 3 hours (mostly to mow!). Cooler days on the horizon! Be gone, foul summer! xox

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Start singing Pam!!! I'll do the can-can and that should scare off the remnants of Summer! LOL!!!
I'm with you; I've only been out to mow and that was NOT the usual relaxing experience it normally is.
And now, it is pouring rain and then supposed to be in the 90's when this passes thru.
Can you say "North Pole"????

I think I'll lose my ever-lovin' mind if this humid weather doesn't take a hike soon. I can't stand changing my clothes twice a day!
I'm wrung out. There isn't enough cool white wine to make me like this weather!

Looking forward to Fall right there with you!

Me either Lo, and frankly, I am sick of laundry---especially since it will not dry on the line, so I am going to have an uber-honking electric bill!
I swear, when Fall gets here, I'm running naked down the road....
LOL!!! :D

I must admit that I am thankful for the cool summer we have had here in Oregon even tho it felt like we only transitioned from spring directly to autumn. I even put the winter blanket back on the bed a couple nights ago! You poor things you....

Same here...tired of the heat another day of 3 digit weather and I'm going to be out in it. Didn't fall asleep till 4 a.m., so I'm going to be dragging my patootie around all day...oey vey.

I'll be in Phoenix next week but at least those folks have everything with central air!! Going to stop here...I feel something weird will be said if I don't!!

Love ya,
G

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Jan, I'll trade ya! :)
I'm not sure HOW.....I can't believe you guys have had such an odd summer too---usually it is much warmer there, isn't it?
Well, here's to winter blankets!

Yearning for Fall here too, Annie. And I shouldn't be complaining. It's dry and low 90's. The dry is typical but the low 90's are a blessing.

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Today, in the steam, Fall truly seems light years away....
But oh my, when it does arrive! :D
I will be oh so happy!

I hear you I love Fall too but then the Winter comes and I just do not like that season at all. Hate shoveling it driving in it etc etc. I am happy today we just booked our first Cruise going in February. Hugs

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

You know Bunny, this summer has been SO BAD (and I realize Iam an old fart and that doesn't help either! SNARF!!!) that I don't mind the thought of winter shoveling! Of course, this year I will get to run my JD with the BLADE again!!! hahaha! I did not get to last year due to surgery, so I am ready to play with my tools!
Hope you enjoy the cruise---a great thing to look forward to!

So glad you are asking for Autumn. I have been saying I want this word brought back into use, it is a beautiful word and I just did a post about it on paintpage, what synchronicity!

I am trying so very hard not to complain about the humidity and heat because I really do hate winter and know I will long for this when I'm huddled inside, never being able to get warm. However, even I am complaining about this summer. I know it isn't genteel to mention that women sweat (my mother would be horrified if she knew I said that!) but darn it, I'm SWEATING!!!!! btw - my mother insisted that women 'glow'.

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

That is interesting! I think of *Fall* as when the leaves turn, but *Autumn* encompasses the whole season, right to the doorstep of Winter!
And yes, it's a beautiful word...

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

LOL M.A.!!!
I was *glowing* for sure when I was out onthe tractor.....sorry mom, that was plain old SWEAT! And several bugs and leaves stuck to me, and dirt too.....
I would rather be stuck in from the cold than the heat; I can't breathe in this, where it has to be far sub-zero before it phases me.....(but I'll whine then too!)

Fall and Winter are my favorite times of year and also Spring. As for Summer, I stay inside as much as possible. The thing is though, when Fall rolls around we'll be complaining that it's too windy, or cold. So we can't win for lose. I just want to be sure I'm still breathing when these seasons roll around, that's all. Take care.

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

THats a goiod way to look at it Gloria!
I just have watched my flowers dry up (even wit the rain) and the weeds take over.
And there is nothing I can do. I think I'll bush-hog the flower beds come the cool of the year....

Your pictures are beautiful, but they make me sad. I would LOVE fall if only it wasn't followed by winter. Autumn will come soon enough -- do me a favor and don't do anything to lure it in ahead of time!

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Oooooooo, but I want Autumn now-now-now! I want that wonderful crisp air and chilly nights! I love it!

Ooooh and I love that sweaty buggy all-too-short summer. I'll see your autumn with red ripe tomatoes and a zucchini as big as a baby.

Hey MAry Helen,

I wonder if what you got was the system that slammed though our skies in the morning, or the clouds that THANKFULLY were spotted all around when I mowed. They looked like they could quickly gather together into some severe weather without much provocation......hope you're safe!

Hi Anne! Wow, it must have been a pretty tough Summer for you to be calling for Fall! Well, Fall is my favorite, of course. There's always a certain kind of magic in the colors and the chilly winds. :)

And thank you for your comment on my Geisha! Isn't it amazing how a simple knot could mean so much?? That's one thing I always admire about the Japanese...their attention to details!! (Hugs)

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hi Amalia!

Yes, it has been crazy humid and hot---I am a Fall person so this is NOT my idea of fun! LOL!!
I was delighted with your drawing and post on the Geisha....I have done a considerable amount of reading on the tradition and how it still manages to live, but not flourish.
Yes, one knot.....that said it all! ;)

P.S. Anyone wondering about this--check Amalia's latest drawing and the story behind it---well, well worth the read and look!!!!
