Between The Raindrops....

(just a teaser of the final work---top of the canvas)

....popping in to say hi and no, we did not get blown away to the merry old land of Oz, but then the day isn't over either.
I had planned to have the final post up about the current collage piece; got most of the text saved yesterday afternoon, took photos and then the weather rolled in and I decided *off and unplugged* was safer than sitting here trying to load photos and getting electrocuted! Hopefully I can integrate the pix I took into the words I wrote later today and have the post up tomorrow morning.
It will be long, with quite a few photos, and I am really praying Blogger doesn't start eating them like last time......what a nightmare.
But other than varnishing, the piece is done (I think!) and the decisions left will be satin or gloss varnish or both, some on different elements. This is a good place to be with it; giving it a days rest and looking with fresh eyes tomorrow for anything I might have missed or want to add to a bit.
One thing I noticed as I worked was the color of warm yellow/red I used kept reminding me of something and sure enough, I finally remembered; betadyne. And some parts had that lovely old stain left from mercurochrome---who is old enough to remember that being a staple in first aid kits and being swabbed on cuts, scrapes and bloodied knees? (I think I was some shade of it peretually when I was little.....)
I assume maybe I choose colors subliminally? I don't know.
You decide tomorrow.

Pax.

Looks like we are getting some of that storm. I can't wait to see the unveiling. It will be amazing I just know. I am trying to get organized, seem to go from one thing to another these days. Too much going on I guess.

Hey Bunny,

Now you sound like me!
As I was coating the canvas with workable fixative before the final varnish I found myself getting out supplies for what I want todo next.....then it occurred to me it might be a good idea to WAIT....LOL!!
Take care!

Oh, that is too funny! I remember mercurochrome - I constantly had it on scrapes, having been such a tomboy! A funny story - some years ago, my dad visited us in New Mexico, where we went hiking in the Sandia mountains. My dad tripped over a big tree root, went down on one knee and had quite the scrape. So, he opens his fanny pack, and pulls out a bottle of mercurochrome! Leave it to the Germans to be ever prepared... We laughed so hard! And with his shorts and orange knee, he looked like a little boy!! :)

Can't wait for your pictures of your gorgeous piece!!

Love, Silke

Hey Marilyn,

My poor dad was in isolation in hospital so much during his life I swear the betadyne seeped into my bloodstream.....cotton gowns, hats, masks, rubber gloves and washing with that stuff.....
So far today just rain and I am praying for everyone in the path of this storm system that turned ugly yesterday.
You take care!

Hey Georgina,

And we lived through it and were tougher for it! I remember getting strep throat and my great aunt swabbing my tonsils with iodine or methiolate---ther real red/pink one?
When I told the Doc he about keeled over; "That's POISON!"
but the strep was gone....over night too. LOL!!!

I guess I will just have to check back in tomorrow to see the fabulous new work! I'm glad you are back in the groove. Don't let a little weather get you down. Or big weather either! But do stay safe, don't go out to try and capture a photo of a tornado or anything. I don't think Mercurochrome would help. Do you think Mercurochrome has mercury in it?

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Yes, Jan, it DID have mercury in it if I remember correctly. Probably a pittance.....I wonder what the *--chrome* part stood for? (need to dig out an old PDR and see if it is listed....)
I'm just hoping Blogger cooperates so I can get the pix up; it has been acting really weird so far today---not sending comments, etc. I have no idea what is going on.
As usual! LOL!!!

well, I certainly remember mercurochrome - which is another name for merbromin. It is readily available in most countries but no longer sold in the United States because of its mercury content.

When I was a kid, my knees were permanently dyed that color LOL.

LOL!!!! Mine too Tristan, and I think every other kid of our era!
And look how WE turned out!!!
(hmmmmmmm.....)
Okay, maybe there was a reason for it going off the shelves, but boy, I'd love to find one of those old bottles.....

We had a mercurochrome plant. One of my illustions has a mercurochrome plant. I am trying to remember which one it is now. Also our German neighbor had children named Mercurochrome, Iodine and Paregoric. I kid you not. They were these half German Filipinos who had blonde hair. Hope all is well with you.

It's been extremely windy here; so much that it actally broke my umbrella this past Friday when I was trying to shield myself from the wind and rain. Ugh!

Thinking of you and hope you had a nice weekend. :)

Hey Sophia,

It turned out okat---rained and blew most of the time but no severe weather and I didn't have to get out in it, so I can't complain.
We had one extremely widy day here---thought it would take the roff off the house!
Take care!

My dad would paint happy face on the back of my hand, when he swabbed my knees, elbows, chin!!! Always made this better.
