Frost Upon My Heart

I must now bid adeiu to you, Jack Frost, artist Son of Winter.
We have tarried far too long together.....
Painted much and laughed with frosty voices.
Pixie children of the North Wind, we have been.
Crossed this land over and again.
Spreading crystaline beauty and the hush of frigid cold.
All to be heard was the crunch of our footsteps.

The magic of our moment is fading rapidly,
And I......
I wish for others now to walk with.
Yes, fickle woman child of mankind, I am.
I search for warmer voices and brighter colors,
in sunlit fields where bits of green come peeping.
My paintbrush is far worn from oh too long a stay;
too many strokes upon the flora,
too many transformations into icy dreamworlds.

But I shall wait for you my dearest friend.....
And meet again next year.
Our trist for the darkened months preplanned.
My hand will welcome yours by then,
my cheek will await your rush of chill,
my fingers reaching out to take your skeletal hand.
Ours pans of glittering paint will be ready,
and we shall make our little world a place
of fairytale beauty.

With the sigh of your breath.
With the wave of your hand.
And the dark of night.

For now though,
I think it best we part without goodbyes.
Without sorrow.
Only crystaline smiles
that melt into the light of day.

Hi LInda,

It was beautiful yesterday, but oh so cold, and I was out in PJs taking the pics.
And I really have had enough of Winter, I think.....
And I am sure we will have more before the month is over. <:(

Hey Marianne...

How about New Orleans??? I'm thinking that could be fun at this time of year!!!
I'm just tired of being wrapped like Randy in a Christmas Story to run/waddle to get the mail. That's only entertaining for so long.....LOL!!!

Morning Anne!
What a lovely poem.... I too am just about at my limits with winter. This big storm will miss again I am happy to say as it will go off to the south.
A bit sore this morning from yesterday both from the needles & from just having muscles clenched. DH is home with me today so we will have a quiet day
Stay Warm!
Love,
Marilyn

Hi Marilyn,

The weather totally missed us; the local newscasters got the whole damned state in a lather about the *Winter Storm*---bedlam in town yesterday. Still recouping from that trip-to-hell.
Not one snowflake.
Not one.
I hate the local news..... >:(
Take it easy today; enjoy the rest and company!!

Good morning, Anne! Oh, such a beautiful poem and the most gorgeous photos!! We are having gray skies, blustery winds and are expecting a "rain maker" kind of storm. Is it coming your way as well? Snow? Looking forward to spring... Enjoy your day!!! Love, Silke

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hi Silke,

We received nothing out of the *Great Storm*. People were crazy yesterday in the grocery!
It's Indiana and 4" of snow, which was what was predicted, is nothing, even 8" is mostly an inconvenience.
You'd have thought we were under blizzard warnings, which those, you take seriously.
I too am ready for Spring!!!

Beautiful poem and photos. Guess you are definitely ready for spring! I know I am since all that we are having is cold rain this whole winter. I should not complain as we were in a 4+ year drought before, so anything to keep the well level up is a good thing. Hubby said the other day the last time the weather forecasters were wrong is that the dairy and bread makers have a deal with them!!!!
Stay warm!

When we lived in San Francisco (as a child) it would rain all winter, and I didn't like that at all!
So I suppose I should hush and be thankful that the weather is what it is!
Part of it is just cabin fever; I think it has been a long winter for everyone!!! :)

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hey Deb,

I wrote that this morning....straight out of the grey matter cobwebs before my full quota of coffee.
I used to write.....years ago.
This blog has been a blessing in getting the words flowing again.
Of course, some of the words that end up here should not ever flow at all! LOL!!!!

Love your ode to Jack Frost. As you know, he's only allowed here in west TX occasionally, and his stay is usually very short, so hello sunshine, 65 degree weather and clear, blue skies!!

I'm not bragging, can't take credit for the weather, but sure love to rub it in now and then!!! hahahahahahaha!!!

Love ya and take care of that bod,
G

Gorgeous, gorgeous photographs, Anne. Winter has a certain beauty all its own that those who live in warmer climates miss. Seeing pictures of winter scenes is one thing, but experiencing the real thing right before your eyes is a whole different enchilada!
I am down here in SC, sad that I am going to miss the snowstorm that is supposed to engulf VA tonight.
Your poem is beautiful.
Took a needed break ~ I better get back to work for now.
Stay warm and dry.

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Audrey, I am on break all day today, and feel no guilt!
My cousin is up in VA where the snow is to hit.....she is NOT happy. I don't think the snow left from the first round.....
Off for my tea and cookies and feet up time! :)

I came back for that second read, and I've got to tell you, Anne, when I first read this, I thought, WHO IS THAT? Emmerson? I seriously thought it was one of the masters who I could not place. Beautiful. Write more please and thank you. Still swooning over the frozen photos. **kisskiss** Deb

Hey Deb,

My writing, of prose, seems to come and go. When it knocks on the door, I scribble FAST!!! LOL!!!
Seriously, I try and get it penned before it is gone.
I suppose, deep inside, the REALLY creative writing girl--like you--wants to pop out more, but I keep telling her to shut up!
We need a weekly challenge to each other with a single word....see what would happen.
Interested? :)
