A Few Brave Survivors.........

.....Remaining in the yard. I think, sadly, these may be the last of the photos of flowers this year. Maybe our first cold weather will yield some other lovelies to photograph and post!
Above is the bush clematis, the only type I have had any luck growing here. I've never let it go to seed before, so it will be interesting to see if any of those little fluffy whorls produce another plant.

Somehow this white phlox seems completely unperturbed by the heat, drought, rain, japanese beetles and sudden change of temperature. I love the pure white ones and seldom have them this late in the year. It seems normally they are one of the first to go.....

And one last, lovely soft pink Mallow; it reminds me of a delicate shell. The pink ones have really thrived this year and I have a few more plants than before. Hopefully next year they will return. Sometimes it seems they cross by pollination and I am never sure what will come up and bloom. The actual color on this pic is a bit dim.....there is more pink in the flower but I wanted to leave it alone for fear of making it garish.

They do remind me of ballerinas, all in full turn of the century skirts, ready for the music to start, gracefully adjusting the satin ties on their pointe shoes! One bit of breeze and their petals swish and flutter.

Go enjoy the last blossoms while you can; we'll soon be looking at ruddied leaves and bare branches against cerulean blue skies!

Pax.

I am sure you both had a great time!!!
I've enjoyed taking the photos but after walking the yard, I think the flower season is over and I will wait impatiently for Fall color.
I think you're right on the amaryllis--isn't it usually around U.S. Thanksgiving that they appear? (see, I do know that Canada T-Day is a different day! or maybe I've just made a fool of myself....)
Feeling allergied and rotten today so stitching is it for me!

Your flower photos are always so beautiful. I love the clematis, and am jealous I haven't had similar success here. My amaryllis bulbs always bloom in mid-Fall...not sure why! Maybe they are impatient, like I am, and can't wait until Christmas : )

Gayle, I think it depends on the variety of bulb, and also how it's kept *off season*.
I always stored mine dirt free in a paper bag in the pantry (yeah, it's full of odd stuff!) and then replanted around T-day.
My guess is yours blooms around the normal time for the genus.
Or maybe it's a rebel!!! LOL!!!!
Thanks for the comments on the pics---it's just the flowers; they do the work!

What a treat to share your garden. Thanks, ours is envelope in a haxe of smoke from the California fires. It's no end of eerie with the moon reddened by the smoke and the mountain tops hidden from view.

Leslie,

I guess I would not have thought about the CA. fire smoke going that far, or being that intense.
Of course, I tend to not watch the news because most of it is horridly depressing......I guess this time I should have. I wonder if the remnants of it will make it here???
Still sewing.......rather be knitting!

those photos are so lovely. I had a very nice three year old Clematus that just didn't winter over this year. Nothing at all grew. I'm not going to try again - I hate to see plants die. LOL But I do love those Alice in Wonderland blooms!

I had things come up I never planted; lost sturdy plants that should have lived; it was the weather.
Can't wait till next Spring to see what the Wisteria does. I hacked it way back and it came out with a vengence! Seriously---have cut it twice........I should have blooms everywhere!

Oh how pretty is the purple? My hubs would love it. I am hell bent on getting plants into my ground each year. We go to the nursery and buy their "I think they are dying now" plants for dollars. SO far, I've not lost one of the six. They are actually doing quite well and they are happy.

last night was beautiful. Nice and brisk. I love it. Today is creeping up ... we are 78... go back down I say.

That is pretty much how I've gotten what I have, and with friends who garden, we all share.....which makes it nice! Most of the plants that look bad just need soft soil and WATER!
I hope it stays cool today---still sick and don't feel like the heat, and may have to run to town for meds.
Ick.
