Morning Coffee

(Copyright Anne M. Huskey-Lockard, 2008)

For those of us totally caffeine addicted, there is nothing like that first cup of the day. The aroma of the coffee brewing, the dark rich liquor being poured into the cup, and then the first taste!
AH! Life is GOOD!!! (and the internal organs begin their daily functioning; heart, lungs, liver, etc....)
This is a painting I did for Cafe Du Cirque owner Chris Arrick after the move into their present location. It is a combination of paint and collage, bright, cheerful---actually, under the right light it positively glows due to the color choices and the minor addition of some super fine glitter. The cup is a fair approximation of the cups used at the cafe. Nothing can approximate the taste of the coffee served there.....wonderful.
I live for the Lattes; delicious, heady-rich, smooth on the tongue and sinful.
So how do you capture these feelings and smells in a painting?
It took some thought; I'm not sure I did. But I must admit that it was hard to part with-----I would love it in my kitchen, which is mostly red. It looks great, though, on the cafe walls which are a soft sunshine yellow.
And is it an accident that the steam from the cup comes up, almost creating the flame of a Sacred Heart???? ;)
Hey, coffee is serious business for some of us. It's our communion.
Now go get yourself javaed up and make something creative today---I am!

This was so cool to open up El Milagro this morning, as I am sitting down with my first steaming hot cup of coffee in a favorite big red mug, and to see this painting of a very inviting steaming mug of coffee! I could smell it and taste it and fully experience it! Do you have this image on a card? I love it. Yes, life is good.

I definitely need to have this made into a card----lots of people like it. I suppose I would have it printed professionally, due to the amount of red. It would suck a ton of ink!
Glad you enjoyed it---I love it too! :)

I've seen it in person...a computer screen does not do it justice.

Printing the card is a good idea. I think visitors to Pee-ru (ok...Pea-ru) would buy them as souvenirs.

Vicki---I like the first spelling better-----seems more the way I visualize the pronounciation!!!
Yeah, on the *need-to-do* list.
Need to find printer that's reasonable...... <:)

You are going to have to stop doing that. I want it all. I am so a coffee addict, I would be happy to see a bright red coffee sign in my kitchen while I made it of a morning. How are you doing, surviving PT?

Oh you evil girl.....you KNOW I will have to plunk down a few of my remaining cents there....
Will check it out. Anxious to see what they have! Thanks for the tip!

Leslie,

Maybe I need PRINTS! (a few......)
PT. Well, I go tomorrow. Leg is killing me. Called the Dr. office today and the stupid girl who was supposed to schedule the CT hasn't bothered to do it. She'll call me when it is sheduled. So when I go tomorrow, I have no idea what they will or won't be able to do since they have nothing to reference from.
This is totally insane. One week and she can't get a scan scheduled. I used to do this work and it doesn't take a week to get it done.
Anne is not happy tonight.....grrrrrrrrrrr
