Bits and Pieces.....

My fine booklet from the hands of Jan......in use!
Somehow in that time around and in between holidays, my studio time gets reduced further than normal, which of late, has not been much to begin with.
I grab a few minutes in the morning when my brain is still adjusting to being awake, then during the day when I'm running through here looking for something else. It is not an organized way to work, but it is pretty much what I have adjusted to. (I don't recommend it though, unless it's all the time you can grab....)
For my birthday, my friend Jan sent me a lovely hand made booklet, which she suggested I throw in my purse to use for notes......um, NO!
Far too nice and I loved the paper. It was just the right size for doing sketches that did not require a lot of commitment, which seems to be the trick for getting back into studio-mode.

Close up of the above....

I did not feel obligated to totally fill pages or produce something that would be considered a *finished piece*. I used pens given to me by my friend Vicki, and that was great as our color choices are totally different, so I was actually playing with unfamiliar color families! (sharing with friends that work in different media/colors is a great way to stretch creatively. I've heard it before but this time actually put the advice to USE....)

Loose work, just recording the moment....
It is a type of fun I have not allowed myself in a while. Seems when I go to work, I think a piece of "ART" must be produced, not "little art" which is vital in it's own ways. (I also discovered how many of my own pens had dried up during my personal *dry spell in studio*.....yikes)

Summer and Winter....
Playing....with a Pin Oak leaf that had blown into the garage. They are so full of color in late Summer, then go completely insanely RED in the Fall. Catching them at that moment of change is always fun.
The Winter leaves are much like polished leather. Pens and Prisma Colors in hand, I did the half & half. A tiny stamp, some permanent markers.....a little too much work but much enjoyment.
And all this confined to a tiny table that was actually CLEAN before I started.
Well, nothing stays that way for long here.

Yes, the Bunnies are helping....lol! Covered with JUNK....

This is the small area I allowed for the work. I have my back to the other enticing projects in various stages of completion/non-completion in the studio. I don't see them and get distracted.
All is good.
Have spent time down in the wet studio too~~glorious!
Still not back to anything close to a routine, but it's coming.
Slowly.
And I can live with that.
How about YOU? Has the New Year put you back to work, enjoying stolen moments of bliss?
Hope so! ;-)

Small works of art are something we should not discount as being art since they provide us a way to exercise and keep in shape our talents. During long dry spells more than our pens can become dried out. I'm going to follow your lead and try to do at least one small sketch each week. Have fun with your little journal.

Maddy, you are so very right.
Years ago I was in the habit of constantly producing larger *finished art*~~competition, commission, etc.
Well, life changes, and heavens, trying to get restarted is not always as EASY as one would think.
So I'm tinkering SMALL...with no hesitations.
If *BIG ART* happens to come out of it, so much the better!

What an interesting post Anne dear. I am always pushing my art teacher for big, big pieces. How right you are to look to the small for chances to get insight. I am catching up with all my favs since I was constantly busy before Christmas getting all the gifts ready. I will post a collage one day of all the works. I made anything from pillows to paintings. Love you gal.

I'd like to go on a veritable crime spree of stolen moments of bliss, quite frankly.

Your art speaks for itself Anne, small or large. It's from the heart.

Total joy for me, seeing your art and sketches and talent!!! There was a gap for me in following you, so I have not seen how much you can do with so little. I love that wispy little scene especially...

It is SO nice to see art returning to a prominent place for you, Anne. And, to my good fortune, I guess that means for me and all your friends and fans, too!

I officially welcome 2013 into the fold, with good health, good friends, and good times

With lots of love

It's great to see you working on what you love. That's a great little book and soon it will be filled with your love. Happy New Year Anne, and thank you for your words of wisdom on writing in a journal. Happy New Year!

Hi Peggy,

You know, I have done so very much large work, I really enjoy being able to sit with something small and manageable.
I still would like to produce a pair of very large canvas, but that is not in the plans at the moment.
Everything I am working on at present is SMALL....and FUN!

Hey Brandi,

I am *planning* (hahaha...we know how that goes!) to try and get a few minutes first thing most mornings to do a bit of work.
I always seem to work better when the brain is just defuzzing and the inner critic is still snoring away. ;-D

Oh, I hear you.
More bliss; less of all the other stuff.
NOW.

Thanks Jo!

I always figure there is a fair amount of us artists in what we make. (which may be why it's hard to get back in the routine....)

Hey KJ,

I'm hoping to get back to a schedule of more art; miss it a lot and like those little quick sketches with thoughts scribbled down.
Too easy to over do a piece~~just slap the thought on the paper.

Hi Gloria,

It is a wonderful little book, and I look forward to filling it with WHAT EVER passes through my brain!
Do stick with the journaling~~once you're past the resistance point, it becomes as essential as coffee is for me in the morning! And that is ESSENTIAL....

Amazing how wonderful...stunning and big a small piece of art can be. Glad to hear the 'studio dust' is being disturbed. Happy New Year !

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

LOL!
And a lot of Studio Dust there is too! (it won't get swept...just moved around!)
I think it's fun, visiting the power of SMALL.

Oh it's so good to see you drawing and I got a mini Jan book, soooo gorgeous, not for notes in the purse either..... You are back - even for a glimpse - yeah! xox

Hey Corrine,

Jan books ROCK, don't they???
It feels good blogging a bit, doing a little art, finding my way back around the studio.....I think I like this VERY MUCH!

Hi Anne, cough, cough, hack, hack. :)) I LOVE that heart. Love love love. And I am so happy you're sneaking in some art time. That's pretty much how I write and do art. I grab what I can, time-wise. I just spent a ton of money on little canvases (before the PLAGUE) and so that is probably what I'll work on next. xox!

Hey Pam,

I need to send you a bottle of *Plague-Be-Gone* so you can PAINT!!!
I was looking in the wet studio at the PILES of small canvas I have and thought, they'll never all get used up.....I'm not that fast...LOL!

Delightful, playful - I can see you are having fun - love the 'little art' adventures you are going on. Friends around you - our believing mirrors - we need them.

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hey Clare,

Seems with the amount of time I was out of studio with health last year, starting small and enjoying is the best route back to a somewhat normal schedule.
Not that I ever had a really normal schedule! But it is getting the body and brain focused back to what is good and beneficial. :-)

Ha! I can totally relate - you've seen the fast little postcards I am making. It is so freeing to work without having to produce a finished piece! And your are gorgeous - much more thought out than mine...

And...are those your slippers I see in the last photo?!? I want some!!!

Love, Silke

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hey Silke,

We *definitely* are on the same wave length to start this year!
Trust me....my little sketches are not thought out. I did do more work on the leaf than I had planned but had fun, so not fretting.
Yes! Those are the bunnies, and if I knew where to get some, I would surely pass it on. I've had a couple of pair stashed for years and now they seem to have disappeared from the slipper scene.
But I am always on the look-out....

What a perfect gift from Jan! You are already turning it into a treasure! I am not surprised that you have plunged into using *new* colours for you!
You are *Scythe Woman* - who knows no fear! (Particularly when you are wearing those Bunny Slippers!) (I adore that leaf......just gorgeous!)

So far, 2013 has been a good one - filled with the warmth of friends....I'm flying to NY on Tuesday to spend a few days with Chris (must stop referring to him as my *Ex*) and Bofie. He is turning 64 (just like the Beatles Song) this week - so we will celebrate together.

We must have a Catch-up Call when I return, ok?

Miss you, love you....

oh i love your little art pieces, and you are so right - they are critical in artistic development and keeping the "juices" going.
I particularly love the litte water scene - lovely.

I love your sketches -- they make me want to be creative!

Timaree said...

They may be small but they are not really "little art". I think they are just "art" or everyday art perhaps and just as important as "big" art. Didn't they feed your heart and soul? What more do they need if they've done that?

funny I missed this blog post till now. Glad you are using the little book, I love your drawings and the color!
