*Sigh*
That photo says it all. I've been out of the loop long enough that when I went to grab a crackle medium, I got the one I really DISLIKE as opposed to the one I *LOVE*.
And I smeared a lot on, with delight, until the brain slowly creaked into gear and this thought wandered through...."Anne, this is way too thin....it doesn't feel right...."
omg...I then read the label closely.
I began swiping as much as possible off the BG color and had to let it sit and dry. Next day it looked workable and I put on the RIGHT ONE:
It was hard to choose what color I wanted:
Yes, you can have a few too many choices.....
I hit the wet surface with a hairdryer to help get the crackling going as my patience was running thin and I kept thinking about the MISTAKE stuff that was underneath.
But sometimes, THERE ARE NO MISTAKES.
I really couldn't see the results that well until I put a wash of dark over the crackle~~that *mistake* medium had made the other one work perfectly! I would have never considered using them together, and since I have several bottles of the one I don't like so much, this was GREAT!
As I said, NO MISTAKES!
LEARNING EXPERIENCES!!!
I applied some lettering (another adventure because the surface was very slick, but pattern tissue and medium weight matte gel did the trick) then finished off the bottom with decorative upholstery tacks, copper wire and beads.
And the finished piece:
I was happy with how everything came together after adding the spoons. Had to make a frantic call to my dear friend Jan at Laughing Dog Arts to figure out how to attach said spoons as the insulated staples I was using were loath to go into the wood panel nicely. Jan is much calmer than I am...she said, "A small nail for a pilot hole?"
Thank you....perfect. *whew*
So, happy art finished and mailed out, recipient happy, I *can* still make art so I'm happy, and there are no mistakes really.
Although the amount I had working on this piece sort of pushed that envelope as far as possible, I think. ;-)
Pax....

Oh honey it's so so good to see creative just flowing out of you..love your piece and your adventure with it..
LOL!
Laura, some of the pieces I've made have gone through hell to get finished, and they are usually the ones I like best.
This had to DRY so many times--slowing me down from my usual pace.....I was afraid of losing the *idea* before I could get the BG all in and done right! :-D
You know what I mean....

Love that drawer full of glitter!! Great idea to blow that into the crackle! Nice piece Anne!
Janet, I wasn't really sure what the crackle was (or was NOT) going to do, so when in doubt, ADD GLITTER!!!
I love micro glitter, but lordy~~it is a MESS to clean up! I had shiny pink everywhere for days....LOL!

I love all the glitter and bright Spring colors dear!!! Happy Happy Happy!!!!! mARY HELEN fERNANDEZ sTEWART
Hey Lady, I almost forgot about Blogger!! LOL Decided I'd come by and see what all my "goils and guys" were up to, hopefully creating art and doing some major misbehavin'!! I never have any doubts about you, however, you're always on that level.
Love the mixed media thing...turned out great. I love all those glitter colours. I used to hate glitter...has something to do with girl scouts and my 2nd grade teacher, Sister Victoriana...ugh, hated that woman!! Well, that's another story, but I'm really cottoning up to the idea of gleeter everywhere!!
Still feel like caca, dreck, shiese, mier, well, like shit, but I'm hoping that this 2nd round of antibiotics will do the trick....need to be better by first week of May...going to Austin and meet my little girly-girl and oh yes, have to get a choo-choo for my Sammy...the kid's obsessed with choo-choos and I promised him I'd pick one up for him also will be celebrating my older 2 grandie birthdays...Sean will turn 12 and Ryan, 10. Told Andria in another year, at age 13, Sean will automatically develop brain damage..hee,hee,hee. Oh well, Target, here I come!!
Need to run..have to pay bills then it's off to collapse somewhere, probably at the princess' house...she's sick too, so I'll take over a can of Campbells and we'll have our Jewish penicillin together...cough, cough, hack, hack...heave, heave...OY!!
Loves ya,
G
nice! love those "happy accidents"- and the background really is nice (as is the finished piece, but you know how i love texture!).
Hey Mary Helen,
The glitter colors were just hard to pick! I love opening that box and having it out where I can see it.....messy, but YUMMY!

Hey Georgina,
Forget about BLOGGER???? Hoe does THAT happen? LOL! (maybe because it doesn't work half the time??? just sayin'....)
Sorry you're still under the weather; I was hoping you'd say you were feeling better. Do try~~TRY~~to take it easy. This is one nasty bug.
Hugs from a safe distance...

Hey Marianne,
Yeah, I was thinking of you when I was putting layer after layer on and *hoping* it would all work!
It actually came out with texture, but in some places almost like a coating of glass. Not my usual stuff, but very nice with depth, etc.
Impossible to photograph though. <:)

Love this piece. So glad your non-mistake turned into a fantastic new creative tool. xox Corrine
Hey Corrine,
This was definitely one of those days I felt like a mad scientist, mixing away without a clue what was going to happen! LOL!
I would highly recommend to anyone who likes crackle to try these two together.
Amazing what a boo-boo turns into.... :-)

It is like Bob Ross used to say, there are no mistaces lust lucky accidents.
Absolutely Janine!
And boy was I lucky...hahaha!
Just happy it turned out good.

Oh Anne, I LOVE it! How delightful and true, the phrase you chose. I have glitter somewhere in the 100 boxes in the closet here, waiting to be unpacked. But right now I am still trying to find all my info to file taxes! Yes, perhaps I SHOULD have done it before the move! I was a bit busy going CRAZY then. **kisskiss** Deb
Oh DEB!!!
Yes, it's getting sort of close to the deadline....yikes!
But moving is always at the most inopportune times, isn't it???
*tosses some glitter your direction*

Hey Anne. I love this piece. Your fears turned out to be pretty darn great!! I hope to try mixing some of that stuff one day soon. I'm a big fan of the pink/green combination, so this is especially nice in my book.
Happy happy to see you in that studio creating!!!!
I am swamped here with everything but art. Getting last minute tax things done for son and hubs. Not fun.

Ah, my mad chemist friend has been in the Laboratory again - bwa hahahahaha!!
It turned out SO COOL! Love the spoons (I would have hammered them on, possibly breaking said spoons, wood and table underneath. Thank God for the Jans of the world. :) xox!!
Hey Audrey,
It was kind of hard getting back in the swing of things, but once going, mistakes and all, it felt pretty good!
Doing some little no-brain collage now and still thinking thru a large project...

Hey Pam,
Why am I suddenly channeling the lyrics of "Monster Mash"?? :-D
Yes, the mad chemist is at it again...a whole lot of crazy for such a small piece! LOL!
It cracked nicely; matches the maker...hahaha!
And yes, I was deathly afraid I was going to bust either the spoons or put the hammer through that lovely background.... ((O_○))

It's me....your *FBBBFF*...."sneaking a peek while I'm at work....and I'm so happy I did!
This is wonderful!!!!

When this wondrous piece of COLOR appeared on my computer screen I actually said "YAY, ANNE IS BACK"!!!!!!!!!! I can't express how happy it made me to see you creating again and using the wonderful colors that SO spell 'Anne' in my mind.
Hey Robin,
Shhhhhh......I won't tell!
Glad you were able to peek in; at the rate I'm moving, this post may be UP A WHILE. <:-)
Hope you had a good day!

LOL M.A.!!!
Yes, I am a little recognizable with my *LOUD* color choices...heeheehee! I was quite happy it turned out GOOD< and it was enjoyable putting the colors and glitter together.
Need to get the brain in gear for the next real art project, which will require time and THINKING. omg.....not the TIME, the other part. ;-)

Love it!
Thanks Vicki~~I was really happy with the fact I could get it all together and didn't BREAK anything; anything on ME included! HAR!!!

This piece turned out great, Anne! I have the wrong crackle medium, I wonder how it would have turned out if you had used either of yours alone? Might be a good experiment to try and find out. When I was in JoAnn's the other day I saw a package of glitter, there were at least 10 tubes of various colors, I was tempted, but refrained. We are like magpies, gathering colors and pretties! So hard to resist all that glitters and colorful glitter? Get outta here!
Your non-mistake piece has the most amazing background. I'm totally in love with the texture and colors of this stunning piece and I love the spoons with all the glitter. Just perfect!
Wishing you a wonderful, art-filled weekend!
Hugs,
Gaby
Dang, that crackle is beautiful! It was a perfect accident. Love it! And I love spoons too. This looks fantastic! Have a productive and wonderful week sprucing up your studio. No matter what it looks like outside, you are always a ray of sunshine. :)
Hi Bella!
I love crackle when I get it to work right; always reminds me of old dishes that have been passed down from previous generations.
As to the studio, it is a major overhaul...LOL!
I'll be doing this *quite* a while, but grabbing a few minutes for art in between! :-)

I still haven't tried a doll with a crackle finish... must do that one day. but, we are trying to organize a renovation too... our last a big push to get the rest of the stuff finished in the house that we have been just sort of 'living with' ....
