A Bit Of A Blogger/Google Rant......

Well, my dear blog readers, never let it be said that the Blog Mistress is shy about expressing her opinions! SNARF!
Today I find out that we all will be shoved over to the *new* Blogger interface in two weeks, whether we want to or not.
I had tried it and could not make heads nor tails of the mess; could not SEE the very light colored icons (that I was clueless to what they were) and frankly, couldn't get it to work. I read this morning that another blogger had to switch to Google Chrome to get anything to work, and I refuse that.
Period.
I have loved this blog; I have spent time and headaches trying to *make it mine* and make it something enjoyable for readers, and even educational upon the rare occasion. (very rare, I know....)
I swear, I think Google is trying to push us out. If you make the experience bad enough, people will quit, and that is exactly what I will do.
I am still fighting a bug, much like the one above in fact! LOL!, and the thought of having to relearn everything to keep a bunch or dweeby nerds happy.....oh, that is sooooo not going to happen.
I don't know if a new Live Writer download would solve the problem, and I'm not thinking about it today....tomorrow, at Tara.
In the meantime, I have a few pieces of art I need to photograph and post if I can before the great change-over-hullabaloo, so cross your fingers that I have the oomph to do it and get it posted.
I would HOPE this is not going to be a good-bye from El Milagro, but there is a point where the quality of life superceeds all the caca that Blogger perpetually shoots out at us.
In the meantime......to all my readers,

Pax....

I agree with you - why change something that is working - do we really need to relearn a whole new way of doing things when it has been fine the way it is. I really hope the change isn't a disaster, I also really enjoy blogging and have spent a lot of time writing my blog posts - I really hope the whole thing doesn't get lost. The end - I hope not!!!

what are you talking about? dynamic views? You could work it out i think. what goes away is the sidebar. Im trying to figure out how to reformulate my blog too - as long as there is still jazz here, its all good. dont quit. you could go to Tumblr or make a website. check out Jimdo. $60. gets you a domain and tons of functionality. Google will eat this world eventually.

how did you find out that it is being changed? Did you get a notice or something? I haven't seen anything about this--oh ugh-something else to waste time and try to figure out!!

Chickory, you've got to understand I have NO web building skills, and that was why I chose Blogger---it was easy, it was how I wanted it, I went to W.P. and about melted down.
Right now, I have a comment that won't post here, so there are issues already, which is most frustrating.
I am not computer savvy; I have done this due to ease and joy.
When that changes, then I have to seriously look at my time and how I use it. I assume this would stay up, and the jazz too, though I am not sure....... *sigh*

Janet, I read it on another blog, then went to Blogger Buzz and there is was. They tell you that you can *switch back* but then in the next breath say they will eventually switch everything over to it.....I am really fed up with them, I'm tired of being asked for a phone number, sign in goes through You Tube now.....TOO MUCH INFO ALL OVER.
My view is what happens happens.
I'll deal with it.
Grrrrrrr!!!!!!

I hear ya!! Read about it too and attempted to make heads or tails of the damn thing! I've always been of the belief, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" Right??? I'm with ya...if it becomes impossible, I too shall end it all...blogging that is!! I'm slowly getting used to the New FB!!! Maybe that's all it will take for Blogger, getting used to it....kind of like a rash!!

Well, my friend, glad to read you're slowly returning to the world of the living....take care of yourself and while you still can, do some misbehavin'!! Got a funny story to tell you about yesterday at the gym, however, not as funny as the Nanist story...OY!!

Loves ya much,
G

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hey Georgina,

Yep, I'm of the opinion that Blogger wants to get rid of any blogs with interesting code---have everything white and plain where there is less space taken, and I guess the fact we can't SEE is of no matter.
As long as the nerds can play, all that matters.
Life is too short and precious to waste piddling with them. Are they aware of that????

I'm with you in this rant. I have been dodging the new hints and try this or try that but if it becomes mandatory I might have to give it up. I sure hate that. I have an IT son maybe I need to get some advance advice from him.

Yes, I don't like it either. I posted about it yesterday and I don't know if I'll get used to it.

well you saw what happened to me! I understand about time and fun. Ihate wordpress and never go to WP blogs because I dont want to fill three boxes to comment. Im working on a Tumblr page and looking at ways to integrate my blogs with website and getting off Etsy which really doesnt work for me anymore. Now you have to buy "placement" in the searches. im done. I use a lot of google products but you are RIGHT anne, it is a whole lotta big brutha.

Hey Peggy,

When you have to get an IT person to do a blog post, something just is not right! LOL!!!
I hear ya my friend...

Hey Gloria,

Your post was what let me find the article.
I think Google is in for some nasty surprises. Yeah, the young techies will love it, but a lot of bloggers ARE NOT in that demographic....
*ahem*

I had no idea they were going to MAKE us change over!! I was blissfully typing away living in my own denial of "I'll never change..haha!"

Shoot! I don't wanna learn all new crud either!!!

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Yeah Chickory....I was stunned when I saw what happened on your blog after the *little visit* to the new interface. Would be nice if they TOLD US THAT in advance....
Etsy has become a real can of worms. I know several artists getting off it for the same reasons.
And all Google really needs to know about me is I am an exceptionally cranky old fart that lives in the middle of nowhere...and what can they use that info for? LOL!!!
*shakes head*

Hey Cameron,

I am just too LAZY to learn all this new junk to please a bunch of geeks.
Nope.
Has to be a work around.
And I am living in denial too! At least for the present....

i hate to see you go away! i think i am going to wp as i have someone working on integrating my website & blog in a way that i can easily update. i hope. at least we still have facebook. for now. hang in there & squash that bug!

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hey Marianne,

I guess I'll just see how the thing works. I enjoy this, but since I started it has become more and more of a chunk of time (why I don't post as often) and I am a numbskull with other platforms....soooooo......
I shall remain a thorn in their side for as long as possible!

I am crying in my lunch risotto and I don't even understand what one thing about the changes. I'm amazed (and thrilled) I have a blog and please blog goddess, don't confuse and confound me. Besides I have people I love here

Don't give up Anne, after all, even the original blog took some getting used to. None of us care for change too much... I'm definitely at the cranky old fart stage... and find new things very frustrating. Regard it a a challenge.. like brain training. Frankly I can't stand Facebook, and blogs at least show you some of the bloggers personality.

We would miss you too much, who would make us laugh every day? And who would post pics of spiders bigger than our heads? I am sad you are still feeling like bleck, but don't give up on us, will ya. I know you are tough enough to defeat blogger. xox Corrine

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

My major concern, girls, will be if there is enough contrast that I can *see* to figure out what everything is.
It was so very light (light grey on white, pale blue on white) that I couldn't even begin to see well enough to try and work it. Fonts thin and small---I just have bad eyes that don't like that at all!
So I am on a time-will-tell basis.
I really wish there was another WYSIWYG platform out there to move to.....pfffft!

Hmmmm - I did see a rumour somewhere about something about to happen, but stuck my head in the sand and tried my best to fergedaboudit. Obviously they're not going to let us. I wonder if they're finding that there are just too many of us bloggers out there and they're trying to weed us out? Are they going to try to force us to pay for the service by making the free version too difficult for the average OF (old fart) to use? Oh crap, something ELSE to worry about!! However, to look on the bright side - Anne is feeling good enough to rant, so that's good, right??

Seawashed said...

I am getting so tired of the changes. I will surely miss my blog if they make us change and I cannot keep it the way it is. Nothing is really free is it? I am new on Etsy too and so far it has been fine. But I hate FB...it changes constantly. I really think all of this social networking is making our lives too difficult. I will remain on my blog with the old version as long as I possibly can. Maybe we should have a blog protest!!!

I hope it's not goodbye too! But I agree with you -- the new interface is hard to see -- too light. I haven't switched over, but guess I won't have a choice in a couple of weeks.

Hey Anne...it's always a pleasure to come by and see you let off some steam. Hehehe...

Seriously, I haven't even tried dipping my finger into this new Blogger thing...just seeing that "thumbnails" version scared the **ss%$#* out of me! I guess we'll have to figure out a way to make our blogs stay "ours" and not another generic Blogger outputs. (^_^)

PS: I hope you're taking care of yourself. oxx

Well, if it changes and it is hard to figure out, I am gone. Or I guess I could just accept the new default set-up and see what happens to my mental health. :) As for FB, I'm not a fan. I will keep my account because my kids are on there, but eh. I am older and crankier than you or chickie! hahaha! xo

NOOOOOOOO .... DON'T GO!! what blogger new interface? i haven't seen it ... is it that bad? i hope it's not gonna mess up my blog. as it is my blog is actually not according to standards. that's becos i messed it up so much when i started tweaking it to 4 columns then back to three and then added 3 column footers!! UGH!! and i can't change it back to normal now, it would take too much work!

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Well, I have my whole template, changes and all (and believe me, there are changes..LOL!) backed up on my computer.
That being said, if the new interface strips everything, I am not sure how to get Old Template I Like into New Thing I Loathe.....hahahaha!
Sorry for the mass answer; off to the Doc first thing this a.m. and home with MORE pills.....I am a pill.
End of story! ;-D

P.S. And yes, I am keeping everything *OLD* until I am forced kicking, screaming and swearing to change.
Lots of the last one! har!har!

What's with all those new pale colours? Magazines are full of them too, and I can't read half the stuff because I just can't see it. I'm another cranky old fart and while I'll stick it out as long as possible, I can imagine myself giving up blogging (sadly) and FB (with delight) some time in the future. Stay well, Anne, we need your wise and funny words. XXOO

I hope it doesn't mean the end of your wonderful blog!
I hate change too, and I'm in for a doozy job wise. I hope I won't have to fight Blogger on top of becoming a full time employee again. Yikes.
I hope we can hang tough together!♥

I'm even MORE horrified now! I really don't trust Google any more, and I am not happy we'll be forced to use the new 'improved' interface whether we want to or not. I think they are trying to get rid of all us older bloggers, and go for the new younger dermographic where they'll advertise, pay for templates etc.

Talk to me Dahling!
I'm waiting, breathless...... ;-D
