Flaming Hot.......(yes--the illustration says it all.....)

Hate to admit I have no idea where the source of the above came from. But it is SO HOT here.....it just seemed appropriate. If I've offended anyone, well, sorry~~the heat has taken my brain!
I also discovered that I am a lethargic lump, venturing out only in the late evening for a few flower photos--yes, there are intrepid things blooming and I will save that for another post. The sweet scent of Phlox hung in the humidity as I whipped around the yard this morning on the John Deere.
It was not *mowing* but more like mashing the weeds into submission.
My creativity has taken a turn south too~~I find the thought of a nice chair, a ceiling fan, cool breeze and iced tea keeps me duly distracted. I have resorted to household chores for amusement.....omg......someone come rescue me!
On the humorous side of this, or maybe in the just-plain-odd section of life, the inside of my dryer was WET this morning~~not from laundry but from creeping humidity. Note to self, check the exhaust vents tonight and make sure they are closed.
What is peculiar is if I was in New Orleans, I would be sleeping the hot hours of the day away and working in the evenings, as the air became more breathable and the relative cool of dusk tip-toed in.
Alas, I am in a cornfield, waiting for the weather to break.
Dorothy and her little dog too may go flying by when it does, if ya know what I mean.
Hope y'all are staying cool, and Mr. Hot-Pants up there is not painting *your* town red.
Till later......

Sorry you're so 'sultry' over there... I'm freezing. A happy medium would be good. Stick with the fan and iced tea for the duration, it'll pass... eventually.

I just went out to water (hahahaha!!!!) and there are puffy little white clouds in the sky and occasionally a cool breeze. Someone has had some weather....somewhere.....far away!
Yep, I'm hiding out until it breaks. :-)

OMG Anne I know what you mean. I watered a few flowers this morning and my head started to swoon (you know that feeling where the heat feels like a vice grip on your skull). Well I'll blame the heat anyway...tee hee!

Yes, Mr Hotpants is over here also. Wisconsin is the hottest in years.

Good grief woman, if you have resorted to cleaning chores you need that hot guy to give your head an exam. Lol. Take a siesta. Then go do one crafty thing. Then a cold shower.

...off to take a siesta...Then finish my watercolor.

I believe we are experiencing the exact weather that you are, Anne. It is HORRID and the forecast is MORE HEAT as the week goes on. I do think a lot more people are going to appreciate WINTER this year. I went out this morning to put cool water in the birdbaths and immediately decided that would be my last trip outdoors today!! And YOU mowed?????

It's hotter than the hubs of hell all over Canada too. Except, oddly, Edmonton where I live. I'm not complaining. We're being eaten alive by mosquitoes, so we have our own devilish plague to deal with.

I'm here in the desert and it is hot so we are staying in with the airconditioner running. But, our hot is dryer and expected unlike most of the country. I do feel for you and everyone else suffering this unusual heat. I hope it doesn't last too long!

Fantastic illustration, wow! It is not quite as bad here, but tomorrow and Friday we too top the 100+ heat index. I broke down and bought a portable AC unit and it is running now so I am no humid at least. Outside is like pea soup too. I was creative yesterday, but today I am with you, ugh, ice, iced tea, cold water and staying inside with no oomph at all. xox Corrine

Hey Elena,

I sooooo know what you mean. I'm in from the shade of the porch, *trying* to lay down enough cooling water for the little animals, birds and insects. BLAST FURNACE.
And our heads are woo-woo strictly from heat...

Hey Teri,

I figured the housework proved I had slipped into delirium.....LOL!
I feel like a tea pitcher, I've consumed so much! A cool bubble bath is sounding really gooooood....

Household chores? Tell me it isn't so!! Personally I have NO trouble with the feet up/ice tea in hand/being fed bon-bons scenario. Try to stay cool!

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hey Audrey,

Yep, same here. I only mowed today because this was the coolest, especially after the little shower this morning. Talking 98 tomorrow (w/o heat indices....who knows what that will be...)
I'm telling ya, when the first snow gets here I am going out butt-naked and SIT IN IT!!!!
Not supposed to cool much till Sunday, when it's only predicted a high of 90.
Wow.
And not cooling at night either.....

Hey Debra,

I hate to admit that a mosquito plague sounds better than this.....yeah, I'd change my mind once I was there.
Seems we all have our own bucket of yuck to bear!

Let me say DRY heat is so much easier to take. When I lived in Long Beach, it was never humid and we'd be out in 114 degree weather without feeling too uncomfortable.
Now, wimp that I am, I hide in the A/C and cringe at the thought of the electric bill this month....I know it's gonna break me! YIKES! ;-)

Yeah Corrine, it's like it just drains everything out of you.
I was trying to do some creative thinking the other day and all that happened was I gave myself a headache. I think braincells shut off after a certain temp!
And isn't that old illustration just the BEST??? I had some of Krampus, but figured they were too over the top for normal humans...LOL!

M.A.~~I told you I needed rescuing!
I think it is the boredom of pacing like a caged animal and not being able to escape the stuff that needs doing.
Trying NOT to do it during daylight hours...evening and night.
UGH.
This is all wrong....

I wanna swim/bob too.......WAAAAAAHHHHH! (gonna throw an Emily fit here!)
I think I'll just go lay on the tile floor in the kitchen and not get up until it's cool.
Yes, indeed, I am being a whiney-pants!

I LUV that artwork!!! It could almost be a programme cover for "Faust" or "Mestofile"!!!

I DID receive some of your *hot air* today...it is SUNNY and (gasp) 70 degrees! I just came back from a long (3 hour) hike through the Presidio. (Thought of you, of course..) I took some photos but it will save them for another day.....

Sorry my *cold air* has not reached you yet.... the iced tea (with lemon please) sounds divine!

Love,

♥ Robin ♥

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Ah! Faust! And Mephistopheles! I have a recording, as in RECORD, of I cannot remember whose composition of of that. Loved it as it included the Mephisto Waltz.
Yes, it would make a stunned program cover!
Envying that walk thru the Presidio....*my* Presidio.....*sigh*
In cool air.
If I was rich, I'd be there in a minute! ;-)

Anne,
storm did nothing to break the heat here in Wis, 90something before 10 this morning. It is so hot out the dogs walk to the door, looks out turns around and goes to lay on the air condition duct...
Had to run out to put water on Jorja's Sunflower plants she is growning for school, and a couple others on the back deck, they looked alittle limp shall we say!!

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

I can't believe after that weather you got that it is STILL that hot.
Which really scares me.....you know when it breaks, it ain't gonna be pretty....
Everything, including ME, is looking a bit on the limp/parboiled side!

Could it be that it's cooler here than where you are?!? I can't believe it!! So sorry it's so very hot where you are, knowing, too that it probably won't change until you have bad storms again. At least here we know the heat will stay like this until October or November. Best not to think about how long summer lasts here... Stay cool!! And avoid that lawn mowing... Love, Silke

Too late, Anne. Mr. Hot Pants LIVES here permanently! Now that monsoon season is upon us, we also get the humidity. Sauna-ish in the mornings. We are all tired and emotionally exhausted here...got up at 3:30 am for the airport trip, and you know we now have a Team we have to get ready before leaving home. Hoping to be perky tomorrow. **kisskiss** Deb

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hey Silke,

Yes, it is quite possible it is cooler there! It's been cooler sometimes in NOLA than here...we live in an odd humidity belt (name for it, can't remember) and it makes these heat waves pretty rotten.
I'm all for a big iceberg right about now.....

Deb, dear, you don't have to be perky.....sometimes showing up is enough.

Oh Lordy, that is unspeakably hot. Ice tea and a fan are definitely in order. Shall I tell you it is cool here, or is that horribly wrong to share?
Cool being in the 70s. No more yard work for you in the heat, dear friend.

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Ah Terra,

That is my optimum summer temp....if ONLY!!! I would love a summer in that range.
I might even be NICER and less SARCASTIC on here.
Hmmmmmm......
And maybe not.... ;-D
ENJOY!!!

My problem is keeping warm. Here I stand in long black jeans, a tee shirt and a hooded sweatshirt with the hood up. Things are frankly out of balance. One thing we have in common is our lack of motivation in the studio. I too have resorted to cleaning house (Gasp!) as you can see in my recent blog post. One of these days there will be an explosion of new work coming from us when our inspiration returns! I hope.

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Jan, I think we're all just sort of suffering through an odd season as we can.
GASP!
Both of us doing housework....the end in nigh!!!

It is so horrible and hot here--George and I may kill each other before this all passes and it looks like at least another week of it!! And how appropriate is that picture at the top--not only with the horrible weather, but the horrible goings on in Washington! I say reduce the deficit by withholding all paychecks and benefits for members of Congress!!

Hi Anne, this post makes me laugh - you have captured the heat and humidity of summer so well, or perhaps i should say the agony of summer - at the moment i'm sitting in my office with a little blanket on my knees, but all too soon it will be summer, as you have described.

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hey Janet,

I hear you SOOOO!!!! Thankfully poor Gary is at work, because I am most unpleasant to be around (I've been worried about him and the heat) and you know, when I posted that yesterday my vision was selective....I just thought the figure was hilarious, then I *saw* it this morning and you're right---don't pay any of them!!! The worst part is it could all be settled with the plan the 6 guys figured out, but RICH PEOPLE would have their loopholes closed.....
AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
Don't kill your hubby; you won't like the alternative. And remind me of that this weekend...

Hey Clare,

It is just like a blanket of STEAM here....even the wind coming thru the porch shade yesterday was HOT. It just is NOT right!
If I have to be hot and miserable, I want to be someplace entertaining too!!! (like that's gonna happen...LOL!!!)
Enjoy your blanket...*sigh*

Hey, we discussed this cursed weather as we wailed about our troubles via phone call the other day. I was reading that the humidity is the true killer and this "heat dome," isn't going anywhere for now...love it, we have a freeze in Feb...something that is truly strange in this part of the country, but then we cook in the summer...that's usual too, but we're experiencing more humidity than I ever remember...hate it and this swamp cooler...toss this piece of crap out!!

I'm going to try to enter the studio today with great trepidation though....it's hot in there too...the morning sun hits it, then cooks again on the western side of the wall!! Oey...can't work with the paper clay, as I complained in my blog!! I wonder how these people in 3rd world countries make pottery when it's so hot and they don't have the luxuries of air conditioning...how do they keep their clay moist without wetting it down so much that the piece will eventually crack during the slow drying process....and here I am complaining about how bad it is for me in my hot house!!!

Oh well, I'll stop my complaining....soon. DH came in the other day and was a bit teed off that I hadn't made the baked chicken I had said I would...yea, turn the oven on at 400 degrees when it's already 82 in my house...I THINK NOT!! Men!!!! Ok, no more complaining for now...upward and onward...oey!!

Loves ya,
G

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

LOL!!!

Well Georgina, all I can say is they have predicted that Sunday is now supposed to be only *85*~~so that means Saturday ought to have me and the Flying Monkeys ready to hit the skies!
Yes, humidity CAN kill you quicker than heat. You're being slowly steamed.
Sorry I had to drop the call but DH was home earlier than I thought and I had NO IDEA what dinner was going to be....looks like we were in the same boat! ;-D
I'm off to find a cool drink and flop.....
