Hello!

Just a quick pop in to share a cute little surprise I got while shooting under the Tulip Poplar the other day.
I was in a bit of a hurry as weather was heading our way (as usual) and the branches were swaying to and fro. I did not anticipate one photo turning out in the lot.
When uploading these, I found this little gut peeking over the top of the petal! He must be tiny, because the flowers on the tree, while not small, are of modest size; yet our little visitor makes it look massive!
Perception is everything, is it not?

On a totally unrelated note, I am welcoming new blog followers, which I should have done ages ago. Mea culpa. Life has vaulted from calm and collected to absolutely crazy. I am hoping you understand!
So officially, welcome to El Milagro and hope you enjoy the content within. It changes.....what can I say? Short attention span? Too many interests?
Maybe.
But we usually have one constant here, and that is FUN!

Now I am off to face the day and do ONE (note that O-N-E) errand and I am back to the sewing table.

Have a great day!

Pax....

I LOVE that pic, Anne! Great catch. Don't you wonder what goes on in their little brains? Climbing Everest like he was? lol! Have fun on your errand! I have to run one, too, before it gets too much swampier out. xox! Pam

Oh, Anne, like Janet, I immediately thought of Milo. He would always peek around corners like that. Great photo! It's beautiful and what a stroke of luck to take it at the right moment!!
Bravo!
I wouldn't know if I had a new follower. My followers have been missing from my blog for over a week. OH, BLOGGER!!! Does it EVER run smoothly?
We are both going to have a "sane" day, Anne. Enjoy your "visit" today.

He's doing a little "peek-a-boo!!" Have a wonderful day, my friend. It's Wed. and you know what that means!!??!! Miss Daisy returned from her wedding gala in Dallas and has had ample time to recover and now she's rip and raring to go...oey!! My bro called last night to warn me she's bent on buying a new toilet for the bathroom off the kitchen. We've been there, done that and bless her heart, at 88 she refuses to admit that she can't remember doing certain things, instead she accuses us of being liars!! Double "Oey!!"

So I'm going to have to tell her, again, we did that and decided against it, for reasons too long to mention in this post, and she'll call me a liar and I'll have to tell her we're not going to Home Depot for that purpose and she'll threaten me that she'll go alone, then I'll tell her, "fine, go...bu-bye!!!" Triple "Oey!"

Pray for me!!

Loves ya,
G

Hey folks,

A quick pop in before I get a late start~~you know, that little guy just *might* have been a distant cousin to Milo!!! (I think he needs to come visit again...what adventures!)
Today is a very good day and getting ready to sit at the sewing table finally....I'll be back with a post in another day or two.
BTW~~the sun is out, the humidity dropped to bubble-bath level and a cool breeze, so not too bad.
Better enjoy it while I can!

What sort of tree is a tulip poplar? I don't think we have them in Australia. It looks gorgeous, and the little bug thinks so too.

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Well Jo, it's in the regular Poplar family, but the reason it is called tulip is due to the flowers bearing a shape quite similar to a tulip blossom.
From Wikipedia:

Liriodendron tulipifera, commonly known as the tulip tree, American tulip tree, tuliptree, tulip poplar or yellow poplar, is the Western Hemisphere representative of the two-species genus Liriodendron, and the tallest eastern hardwood. It is native to eastern North America from Southern Ontario and Illinois eastward across southern New England and south to central Florida and Louisiana. It can grow to more than 50 m (165 feet) in virgin cove forests of the Appalachian Mountains, often with no limbs until it reaches 25–30 m (80–100 feet) in height, making it a very valuable timber tree. It is fast-growing, without the common problems of weak wood strength and short lifespan often seen in fast-growing species. April marks the start of the flowering period in the southern USA (except as noted below); trees at the northern limit of cultivation begin to flower in June. The flowers are pale green or yellow (rarely white), with an orange band on the tepals; they yield large quantities of nectar. The tulip tree is the state tree of Indiana, Kentucky, and Tennessee.

Way more info than you could ever want, eh? ;-)

Oh what a FABULOUS shot. Yes it does look as though perhaps Milo has sent out the beginnings of a reconnaissance team. Best be on the look out for more of his friends....I am CERTAIN they heard good things!!!!

Great shot Anne. Those tulip trees are really lovely, saw one in Cali last trip. Happy sewing. We are in t-storms here, tinny tornadoes, not like what you all get though. Can't wait to see that green stole. xox Corrine

It's as if he's playing peek-a-boo! Maybe he's Milo's cousin (and if that's the case, you'd better hide the valuables!!)

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

OMG!!!
Bella---I totally missed that, but I was writing before I was awake (with gut hanging out; maybe it was supposed to be!)
You girls are a hoot and keep me on my toes--the ones that are not broken! LOL!!!
I think we all are of an accord that Milo should visit again....I am sure he is a changed bug!
Now if spellcheck would just type what I THINK....ah-hahahahaha!!!

XXOO to all~~

What a fun thing to find. I found that when I took a pic back in April. I ended up painting him as part of a class I took. We tend to see the flowers when we are taking the photos rather than the insects buzzing around them but then we get the fun of seeing them later. Nice picture. At least one came out!

Hi Chrisy!

Welcome! Glad you stumbled upon my blog. I try and keep it pretty light and amusing here at El Milagro, (okay, maybe it gets BORING...LOL!) but there is normally something of interest to see.
I have been a little absent lately trying to catch up with real life that is whizzing by~~~please come back and maybe there will be something inspiring or at least make you laugh!
