Back To The Stitch.....
I spent a rainy day doing what I enjoy so, gathering all the supplies to pursue the next Liturgical Stole.
I must add, the green I have in the photo is not the *real green*...the camera went off on it's own and got creative.....hmmmmmmm.......there is no glow in the dark, or tall yard after a week of rain color! Much more dignified!
Currently on the cutting table, I have the main fabric; pinned into submission on a padded flannel base. It is a lush and slippery brocade, with enough weight to require a lot of containing. The whole pattern must be straight and true before cutting, the interfacing carefully matched and pressed in. I think it will benefit from one more layer of an interlining.
Green is the color for *Regular Time* and is worn the most, yet the choices in shades and patterns are for the most part, well, awful.
I had dreamed big in what I wanted to do with this piece and then began the fabric search.
OH MY.
It was not going good.
When I was at the point of giving up, I got an e-mail from the company I always buy from that said, "See our new brocades!"
(like they need to entice me????)
So I give it a shot, thinking there wouldn't be anything in an acceptable green.
And I was wrong.
My heart almost stopped.
There it was~~exactly what I had wanted, pattern, color, everything!
EXACTLY.
But it was not the shade my minister had requested.....yet I kept looking and looking and I knew in my heart, "Anne, this is IT!"
And I ordered.
Sometimes, when you are doing what you are meant to do, the world delivers exactly what you need.
Even if it is in a slightly different color. ;-)

Good Morning, Anne! Those beads look like little candies -- just waiting for a taste... Don't you just love when the right fabric shows up at the right time?
Yes Karen...I always feel like it is a sign that whatever project I am thinking about is spot on, right, meant to be.
And those little pearls look even MORE like candy IRL!!! I find them meditative when I go to sew them on.
Wish the crosses would get here; had to order them out of country and not sure *when* they'll show up.

Well, now I am really curious as to what shade of green it is!! It finally has stopped raining here, but by next weekend we are supposed to be having a record heat wave--97 by next Saturday!!What happened to spring?? i want spring!! (laying on the floor kicking and screaming)
Janet, honey, I'm kicking and screaming with you!!! It's supposed to be in the 90's here, with thunderstorms too, so I figure we will all be steam cooked in no time!
The green....well.....it is softer. I can't quite describe the color, but it sure is not glow-in-the-dark green like the photo! (I should have reset my white balance...my bad...) More of a soft medium fern green, but words are all interpreted differently.
When I get it further along, I'll have to try and get a decent photo.
Sometimes there are those shades that just DO NOT photograph true....

Oh I am in awe that you create these...how amazing is that....and so neat that you talk about the colours too.....and how lucky for you to get that e-mail at that very moment and finding the exact colour and pattern your heart was searching for....you are amazing....
Wishing you a wonderful day Sweet Anne!!!!
Trust your gut babe! You go girl. When that minister sees what your creative spirit can do his jaw will drop open and no words will come out. Can't wait to see this one. xox Corrine
I agree with you about the world delivering just what you need...love when that happens!! Can't wait to see the finished product!! BTW, when you put on that outfit you wore to church last week, please have someone take a pic of you!! LOL I just have to see it!!
Have a great day. Hopefully, there will be NASCAR today, so I can sit DH in front of the telly, while I sneak into the studio for some much needed and wanted work. Going out for breakfast/brunch this a.m....having Enchiladas Montavos...layered corn tortillas, with cheese and an egg in between layers, with rich and spicy enchilada sauce over it...should maybe double up on my cholesterol meds!! LOL Heck, we haven't done this in almost a year...it's time!!
Loves ya,
G
It is always a thrill to find the perfect shade of color you are looking for. Makes the hunt worthwhile. I have done the same thing with beads, searching for the just right shade of green. With beads there is no adjustments, you must find the right shade. With fabric of the type you are working with it is the same. Can't be painting on these things to fix the color. although, now that I am thinking about it, if I had some clear or white glass beads and used some alcohol inks on them, hmmmm, an experiment may be in order here. Good luck with your current work, hope it is as all consuming as the last project was. And as successful, too.
Thanks Diana,
It was really COOL with the e-mail coming when it did; talk about home delivery! ;-)
And I never have figured out *why* there can't be a nicer, lusher green for regular time....
Maybe it's to keep the congregation awake...LOL!!!

Hey Corrine,
My minister knows exactly what I can do with these fabrics.....so he trusts me to just create and then I am a complete stinker and make him WAIT to see the finished piece!
(I have the design in my head--articulating it is impossible, and doing a sketch usually is not really viable....he has faith!)

Hey Georgina,
I promise, I will wear the white linen and Docs again some time and find someone to take a photo..... ;-D I am infamous. What can I say?
I'm thinking there is Nascar right after the 500 (if they get it in--weather is getting weird here)because some of the guys used to fly from Indy to, hmmm, Charlotte? Can't remember.
Hope you get studio time!

Hey Jan,
You are absolutely right; some things take the search for the right colors. I had that with pearls---lots of wimpy green, but finally found some that complimented the olive ones I have and match the fabric perfect.
At my end of things, the only way I can change color is through extensive applique or embroidery, and those are not going to happen due to the texture....oy.
But it will be BEAUTIFUL and GLOW!!!! :-)
And I definitely think you should get some clear or white beads to try the alcohol inks on!

Life's like that Anne. Just when you think the going could not get any tougher, that little ray of light brings all the encouragement you need. The green will win over your minister's heart. Believe it!
You gotta go with your gut in times like these....I'm sure he's going to fall head over heels for it!
Thanks Jo!
Yes, when I described the woven pattern, the exact color went out the window! It will be lovely! (and distinct too! even better!!!)

Hey Cameron,
That is one thing I have learned over all these years with art~~go with your gut, and it will work wonderful. It took me a while to accept it, but when I think back, the times I had that *feel*, everything was fine.
I'm excited! :-D

Love the pearls you are adding to it. This will be fun to see what you do with them.

Blogger isn't taking the normal profile so I am using my yahoo Open ID. Otherwise half the comments I'd like to make on blogs lately wouldn't go through. Blogger is being a brat again.
I sooo hear you; I've had blogs I can't comment on....it's having a bad case of PMS or something.
I just LOVE working with pearls, though I forgot to buy a pearl reamer with the last order...I knew there was something I forgot! Dang....
I think this will be pretty cool....she says with a big grin!

"Sometimes, when you are doing what you are meant to do, the world delivers exactly what you need." <--- I love that! Can I put that on my sidebar referencing your blog? :)
I'm really looking forward to seeing your step by step on this stole. Your first one was amazing! :) Hugs xo
Yes, definitely!
But the world just delivered me a hacked e-mail addy book too...LOL!
So trying to juggle that little mess now!
Thanks on the stole; slow work today; lost a few items I need....laid them down and wandered off....

I would say it was definitely divine intervention that the just-right fabric landed in your lap at just the right moment. There's no doubt in my mind!
I'm so looking forward to seeing the progress of this piece. You make jaw-droppingly beautiful liturgical stoles.
We will anxiously await your next creation. The colors are lovely (even if not true). The gold thread looks amazing! Hope you didn't get the tornado's...we had both watches and warnings about an hour ago. High winds..heavy rain. Be safe my friend!
Hi Anne! Ooooh, another gorgeous work is on the horizon! I am happy that you are happy and that such good things are happening. :) You are doing something you love to do. Life, she is good! xo Pam
Your last stole was absolutely beautiful, good luck with this one. I got a 'hacked' email, shouldn't have opened it (don't think anything's happened ;) as there was no title & that's unlike you!
Great post, Anne. I love this comment you made... "Sometimes, when you are doing what you are meant to do, the world delivers exactly what you need." May I share it (giving you credit, of course)?
Hey M.A.
Yes, I think there was a little *help* on that fabric choice! LOL! Pretty cool though!

Thanks Debra,
I'm looking forward to it too! ;-)
This one will be so different, as each is that I make~~I can see them in my head but then when they are all done IRL...wow.
Big difference!

Hey Robbie,
I will say that when we have warnings, everything is locked up in plastic boxes and then locked in a metal cabinet. So the weather has REALLY put a crimp in my work, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.
Thankfully, we're all OKAY! (just behind....)

Hey Pam!
Yes, life IS good! It is a wonderful thing when working on something you truly enjoy. Both of us have spent enough of life's hours doing things we had to or hated.....time to step to the plate and make the things that make us happy!

Hey Emma,
Yep, e-mail hacked but problem resolved.....I think.....
Enjoying this current work immensely! :-)

Hey Di,
OF COURSE! Share away.....it was one of those rare moments that just makes you sit and take a deep breath...wow. What you wanted, NEEDED; delivered.

Can't wait to see it, as usual.

Wow, Anne, it looks like you want to just retreat into a quiet corner and sew, sew and sew. With such luscious ingredients, the stole will be magnificent!! And it will turn out to be the perfect color, too!! Love, Silke
Hello, dear Anne.
I have no doubt this stole will be another beauty! How could it not be? You put so much love and vigor into making them. I love your excitement!
I have watched your area of Indiana closely during the unbelievable storm systems that have been battering the country. It is always a relief to see them pass. Hopefully, the worst is over for this time of year.
I am trying to get back with it. The last month has been hectic. I need some calming juice!! Wine, perhaps? hahaha
♥ audrey
I'm glad you are safe and well! Love your story about finding the perfect fabric. I sooo agree....the Universe provides exactly what we need when we need it.
i thought you photoshopped in that golden glow! :) it will be beautiful, and your pastoer (minister) will love it! hope you had a great weekend- (btw, glad you turned the misuc back on- to heck with those who don't like it! there's an off switch!)
Color is the most rewarding and frustrating of part of the whole process for me. I love when it comes together and sometimes risk rushing the piece so I can see the combination come alive. I'm with you too, green by itself is such a hard color. My birthstone is Emerald, and I've found I can not afford the deep green emeralds (they are more rare) so I was happy to find tsavorite, a green garnet...the most beautiful shade of emerald green I've ever seen. Your fabric is just gorgeous, I can only imagine the joy of working with something so lush. He will love it!
And I'm sure with your talent it will turn out absolutely gorgeous!
