DeMeng Delivery -- DELIGHTFUL!!!

Yesterday's mail held a delightful package. As I pulled the container out of the mailbox and noticed the return address, I knew immediately what it was and hoped I did not manage to drop it from excitement before returning to the house! It was the prize from the colorwash competition held in Michael deMeng's "ArtLab #1" on line class. (ArtLab #2 is coming soon to a computer near YOU!)
I gently peeled the tape off and nestled inside was this utterly amazing piece of art.....
Let me say this; photography is a wonderful medium and you, my readers, know I love it. But to hold an actual piece of art IN HAND that you have only seen on video, from an artist whose work you have studied in books....well....it is day and night. The attention to tiny details absolutely blows me away.
This close up gives an idea:

The work is 3" x 6" but is so incredibly rich and textured, it visually reads much larger. The eye has much to consider  and soak in; the juxtaposition of delicate and industrial is perfect. That is the part that I find hard to express through photo or word.
It is balanced art in so many ways.
It is a gem in a weathered container.
Tough and delicate, dark and light, heavy and fragile.
Exceptional!
Also enclosed was one of the show announcement cards from the opening of "Strange Angels" and I have to say, I would LOVE to see this one *in the flesh*....or in the assemblage...  ;-)

"metatron: the scribe"
Today I am off to try and finish some art I have percolating, if I can get my attention away from my little shrine. And if I spend time meditating upon it, well, it's all good. I'll consider it "Assemblage Theory 101".
What a cool way to study art!
Thank you Michael!!!

myohmyohMY!!!!!!! What a rich piece! I know what you mean about seeing it in the flesh. Your photographs are so clear, yet the feeling one gets from holding it is incomparable.
You lucky dog!! You deserve it though as you are a good student ;)

That angel is something else. Wow, imagine a whole show of them!

i'm still wondering what you'll do with that barbed wire.

Enjoy your "panda day!"

Wow, what a fantastic piece you won. That is such a wonderful example of his fabulous work. The new strange angels series is so cool. I love the rolled burned bits of paper in the chest of this angel. Michael is so into mythology and his interpretation of it, very, very cool. xox Corrine

Are you still shaking?

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Well Pam, if we're going to have DELUSIONS, we might as well have GOOD ONES! LOL!!! Yes, I would love to see one of his shows; to be able to soak in multiple pieces of art at once....wow.....
:-)
BTW, you can do jade green very well, especially for St. Paddy's Day.

Yeah Lolo, I would love to take this around to everyone and say LOOK! LOOK!
It is the whole thing about seeing art firsthand. And why galleries are important, as well as museums---to get the real deal out for people to see.
I am definitely going for the panda day...LOL!!

Hey Corrine!

I'm just shaking from a little too much morning caffeine now...hahaha!!! Now I'm all mellow and ready to sit and study. I might get art done, but I would bet money on the sit and study part.
The strange angels must be an incredible group of pieces....I love the research behind the work, and then the interpretation.
Very cool....

Anne ! This piece is EXTRAORDINAIRE !!! There is somethiung about DeMeng's art that takes me to a dark mysterious far away world, between here and there, halfway between paradise and hell, future and past ... Something archeologic too ... Just love it ! YOU are ONE lucky girl ! But again, YOU DESERVE it ! Hugs xxx

Thanks Di!

I just love it--the work......WOW.

You can breath now all the comments are raving about that piece. True mysterious and magical. Great to get that rusting recipe. Now maybe I will have something besides myself in the rusting process. Lol

Lulu, you found the words I could not find--it is archeological, and a bit between the extremes....maybe sitting outside Purgatory, looking in. In a GOOD way of course!
It is definitely a PLACE, a FEELING.

Anne, it is AWESOME!! I can see that it's a definite cause for excitement and shaking. Just be careful you don't wear the patina off from caressing it so much. I am happy for you. I can feel your JOY! How wonderful to have a piece of Michael's art in your home. Congratulations and enjoy!! I, too, hope Michael can see how appreciated this little shrine is.
HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY, Anne!!

Hey Audrey,

Other than the initial unwrapping and *posing* for the blog shoot, I am NOT touching it! LOL!!! With my rusty joints, I'm apt to drop it....I'll just leave it here on the table until I decide exactly where in the hall gallery it goes.
Happy St. PAddy's!!! And no, I'm not drinking green beer...LOL!!!

The most wonderful thing about art is that it keeps speaking to us and allows us to discover more and then more again about the piece of work and about ourselves. Lucky you to have this in your hands.

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hey Michael,

It has an excellent home~~will probably get a shadowbox frame to keep it safe from dust. (I can CLEAN, or I can make ART...hmmmmmmmmm.....yeah....)
How about an Abita for St. Paddy's??? :-D
Again, millie grazie!

Hey Ima,

Yes, truly, it's great art when you see more and more. The constant discovery. That is what makes art as a whole so exciting, especially when people are brave enough to push the boundaries!

I can tell you are just so thrilled. It's wonderful to be able to enjoy something so much and I'm sure it's a mix of the actual object and the thrill of having something from an artist you admire.

You lucky dog, you!!! I'm so jealous, but it couldn't have happened to a luckier chick!!

I have something for you and I even ordered another one so I could get that second swizzle stick. Actually, upon my return home from my TX trek to Austin, that particular Southwest jet were serving drinks with these adorable red swizzle sticks with a heart at the end. I ordered an ice water with lime, saw the swizzle stick and thought of you (you created a miracle with those sword shaped skewers)I thought, "What could Anne do with this little darling, must order another water or raid the trash bag....nah, I'll just order another water!" So I have 2 adorable heart shaped skewers and will mail them off next week...still trying to get over this friggin' time change..yea, TX needs more sunlight in the summer!! I was in Austin where it's Central time there, then came back to El Paso, where we're on MST...oey vey, I'm jet lagged!! LOL

Have a great week and don't forget to wear green today!!! Are we 12 or what??? LOL

Loves ya,
G

superb. Congratulations! Yes, the photos can give you a good idea but seeing any art work for real is such a different experience. Personally, I consider your work to be on par with his. I mean that honestly.

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hey Freebird,

Yes, I think you summed it up exactly!
I've always had artists whose work I admired and usually knew there was nominal hope of owning a piece, as I am sure all of us have.
But sometimes, well, you just luck out!

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hey Georgina~~LOL!!!

Yup, mentally, I am 12 today. I was yesterday, and the day before too....heehee!
I cannot wait to get those swizzle sticks! OH! They sound tre cool and so many possibilities....my little mind will be working overtime!
Ditto on the time change; like we need more sun once the storms start rolling and the humidity goes berserk. Pffft. I don't know which end is up and the birds are mad getting put to bed an hour early. Johnny screamed for an HOUR the first night.... <:-\
Glad you're home safe!

Hi Jo,

I think MDM is probably the King of assemblage artists; I keep working at it myself but I am still more in the *bas relief* stage as opposed to full blown!
It is fun learning though, and hopefully I will get where I want to be with it.

Slow on replies today; change in the weather is really slowing me down, plus the joy of trying to mark with spray paint every buried thing in the back behind the studio...spray painting in the wind. Yeah. There's a good pastime! oy....

I was already a DeMeng groupie but you made him sound oh so heavenly. Oh wait, you weren't talking about him were you! Bwah-haha! It is gorgeous. No way did it look this good when he held it up on the video. Awesome that you got it - I knew it belonged with you. Now I have to come see it in person.

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Okay Elena....I am coming over there and sending you off to THERAPY! :-D Ah-hahahahaha!!!
Lord girlie....
And yes, you DO have to come see it in person, but I think I will have it behind bullet-proof glass and screwed to the floor or something.....just in case the TEMPTATION to grab and run hit! heeheehee!!!!

Anne, what a coup! So well deserved, and I can't think of a better person to take possession of this wonderful work of art. As Elena says, it is even more fabulous than that quick look we got on the video, and I know it will be a piece that will speak to you every single time you look at it. An original deMeng - how about that!

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hey Carol,

The one thing I was so surprised about was the little piece on glass with the image behind it. I was lucky to get the light just right for it to show in the photo I took....but it intrigues me. Who is it? What era? All these little things that draw the eye in, in, in....... ;-)
