Too Much Busy-Busy!

Well, it's like this. The calender is going faster than I can keep up and that, above, is all I want to do. Plug my ears and keep saying, "It's NOT December.....it's NOT December...."
But reality sets in and I have found myself hustling between decorating and studio time, running from one end of the house to the other and while I am accomplishing things, I have had little time for small enjoyments, LIKE MY BLOG.
Amazing how that is the first item to go down the tubes when the pressure gets on.
The family room has taken on it's holiday flair, the downstairs needs more but may not get it and the studio has been busily getting cleaned so I can get the church hanging off the wall and onto the floor for doing all the backing (BY HAND) and trimming out. That one frightens me.....
All the while I have kept this marvelous cough that came with one form of the creeping crud about two months ago, and I will not go to the Doctor for fear of coming home with another form. Just hang on till after Christmas......and I'll be fine!  ;-)
Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to have the whole month of December with no tasks---just to enjoy the coming of Winter and not feel like I have been run through a wringer by the time the new year arrives.  I am all for that! (I am all for breathing too, but neither one is happening, without a lot of labor)
Somehow December gets hijacked by pressure from the outside world to meet a certain criteria of buying, showing off and excess; I just prefer the quiet and when it comes, the snow. It seems to calm the whole world down.
There is nothing I crave more than evenings spent curled on the couch with a holiday show on the TV, my knitting and DH in the chair, sometimes snoring. The lights are low, the tiny sparkling Christmas lights glowing warmly and everything is good in the world. Time stands still for a moment---there is just that tiny moment to think about and enjoy.
That's what I'm going for--the little moments.
They are special and tend to be over run.
One up side to all this hecticness.....I have had time to start a piece of art *for me*!!! I will probably post it after the first of the year.
I anticipate my next post being the church hanging done, then I will be off blog until the holidays are under control, or I have something more to post.
I miss everyone but dang it, I can't create the hours I find I need.
I hope everyone has their holidays in order and not running like a spastic chicken!
You can always plug your ear, click your heels together and repeat three times......"It's NOT December....it's NOT December...." I'd like to say it would transport you to some magic land where everything is done, but most likely it will just garner odd looks from your family members and I do not recommend doing it in a public place. You might get *transported* alright, but not where you want to go!
And now, I'm off to get the blade on the John Deere......be still my heart........

Take a deep breath! Gls you are nearing to a close on the church wall hanging. It's been a long time in the making!! Give yourself permission to not cave in to all those outside Christmas demands and sit in your chair and knit.

Ah Janet,

I guess I just get tired of all the hub-bub on the tube! Not that I get a chance to watch that much! LOL!
Last year we downsized the holiday decs, this year the same.
And so far I have knit four scarves, one pair of socks ready to come off the needles and a doggie coat that is, for the most part, knit and needs putting together!
Knitting is my moment of zen.....;-)

That's my favorite part, too (watching holiday movies and twinkly lights). It reminds me of the scene in The Christmas Story, when at the very end, they are sitting, looking at the tree and it is snowing outside. :) Just to make you feel better - I have nothing up for Christmas. No tree, lights, advent calendar, nada. Guess what I will be doing this weekend? LOL! My wish for both of us is some quiet time, to think about it all, and to just be. xox!!

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

I love that scene too Pam! And I remember *in the day* we used to put the tree up on Christmas eve and of course it stayed up thru Ephiphany---most of December was spent baking cookies and making candy for gifts. Mom, dad and I in our tiny kitchen, turning it into a goodie factory!
Ah, yes, I love the quiet moments.....that is what Christmas is for me; the nativity, the candle light service on Christmas Eve, the warmth of home.....
I'm just too old fashioned.

Anne, that desire is NOT old fashioned. I believe there are many many of us who crave that same thing ~ the peace and tranquility of Christmas. I love the memories of my childhood Christmases...that special "feeling" deep inside that I would have when I'd go into the room, alone, and get close to the Nativity and the tree in the dark with only the Chrismas lights on. Nothing like it.
We can still do that, Anne, even in this busy, hectic, modern world. We can make the little bits of time that we need for those special moments.
All I want for Christmas is that feeling and some TIME!!!!
I wish you many "little moments" this Christmas season.

Me too Audrey---that is my Christmas wish---time to enjoy the season and time for quiet and the truly amazing feeling like we had as kids.
That overwhelming sense that all is in place and the world is good.
And I am working on it---believe me!
I treasure small moments.
Every day.

Hi. Hello. Hola. Bonjour. I have NOT been ignoring you. I have been ignoring EVERYONE! I am in the same boat as you with the blog and I miss my bloggy friendlings ever so much! I only read half your post, as I am out the door with Bad Alice for a spot of Christmas shopping, but I wanted to stop by and leave you some spam fry and hot links. I'll be back later to catch up. Me missing you. **kisses** Deb

Remember that saying..."Take a deep breath and count to ten." It works. I'm not feeling pressured this year. I'm just enjoying the good, the bad, and the ugly. Tee Hee. Have a good one Anne and take time to smell the roses. Have a cup of strong coffee. :) take care.

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hey Gloria,

Mine is more like *smell the John Deere*! LOL!!!
I have cut back a lot on what I do....I am looking forward to MAYBE baking a batch of cookies....not going for the cookie factory episodes of old. Altho---they sure were good! ;-)

Hi Anne,
Ohh, I know how you're feeling and I don't have any church stuff to prepare and decorate.

I spent the whole day yesterday dusting the ornaments and putting them up, then the Christmas tree looked bare without any pressies under it, so I dragged out what I had purchased {still heaps to go, big family} and wrapped them.
All day long and then my guys walked in and didn't even comment, I had to ask them 'what they thought'
At least DH is appreciative!
Oh, the joys of Christmas~lol
Hugs,
Anna

Oh Anna,

It sounds like around here---notice anything new honey????
Shall we laugh or cry....LOL!
I think your comment sums it up pretty well. ;-D

I hope you don't have whooping cough. It's really bad in California I hear and anything that is there makes its way elsewhere.

Thanks for the help with the Christmas card. I thought the bulb looked unglasslike. I don't have a real one up to look at as we don't really decorate but instead see it all at our daughters when we get there a week ahead of Christmas. It's easier but there is a feeling of something lacking. I went out and bought a tiny tree at Safeway and decorated it. I feel a bit better now!

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

It just kind of blew me away that whooping couch was something adults could get. I know I had it as a baby; I remember mother recounting the stories.
Glad I could help with the ornament painting; I just got done putting my tiny tree up and I always decorate with the tree lights on and the overheads off. That way I can see what reflects where.....yeah....that's how I do it! LOL!!!

What? It's hard to hear you with my fingers in my ears. Kind of hard to type, too. I am a whiz with my toes, though.

Oh, Anne, I'm definitely with you on this one. Ack, December! Why does the thought of December fill me a wee bit with dread when really it should be a joyous month. *sigh* So much to do. But in the end, if the decorations don't all get up, if I don't get my cards made and out the door on time, it all the presents on my list sell out fast...well, it doesn't matter. Christmas comes anyway. Grinch knows. I am finding I have to knock a few things off my wish-I-could-do list just to keep my sanity.

And that is my Christmas wish for you: sanity, peace, relaxation, and a warm moment by the fire with DH quietly snoring nearby.

xoxo

Is this your "All I want for Christmas" post? It sounds like the universal want of peace and harmony. I hope we all get this particular wish granted. I don't even need the joy, I'll just take the peace and harmony, thank you very much.

I'm looking forward to seeing that wall hanging hanging where it is supposed to be. I want to see all the fun stuff you create after that is finished!

Bella.....BELLA!!!!
(whew!)
LOL! My sentiments exactly about December, and my birthday is this month so I shouldn't feel that way!
I am down to:
nominal decorating, no cards, and just doing the least so it can be a peaceful month. (and feel like it lasts more than a week!)
The older I get the more I like Jim Carey's version of the Grinch.... ;)
May you have the same; peace and time to enjoy it!!!

Hey Jan,

All I want for Christmas is a time machine installed in the studio, so time DOUBLES when I am here. Can you work that for me???? :D
All I want is the wall hanging up at the church--done, hanging, looking beautiful and art time for myself. That's it.
Anything else is icing on the cake!
(I am not sure about *fun stuff I create* afterwards....I'm trying to schedule my nervous breakdown too and have a class that starts Jan. 11th....geez!)
