Recalling This Christmas.....

On Christmas morn the snow was deep,
Saint Francis wore a mantel

A frosty seat for Santa Claus
Or any other trav'ler

And simple trees transformed to art
All sculpture from the veil....

Wood Faerie cups, filled to the brim~~
To toast the whit'ned gale.

And silly people, such as I
Go walking through the cold;
In child-like garb too bright, too brash
This beauty to behold.

Then in the warm, the cozy house
The colors of the season...

And moments brought  back from my past,
The naughty STRUWWELPETER...

At end of day, with feet propped high,
In festive garb I rest

My Christmas Star~~a tiny bird~~
Who here, has found good rest.
Lest not forgetting in the haste,
The food, the lights, the wonder
That in a stable, long ago
A tiny babe did slumber.
And brought to all of us His love,
A gift that was unceasing.
And to this day that we recall
The reason for this Season.

For the 12 days of this season of joy,
for the coming year,
may you know love and always....
Be abundantly blessed.
Pax....

Love those socks. Can't believe all the rush is over thank goodness. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas. We certainly had more food than we needed and all the sweets. I hope to lose those extra pounds that seem to jump on my hips before we go on our cruise. Happy New Year to you and your family.

Hi Caio,

Thanks on the photos! It took a long time to go through the load I had taken and then crop, border and worst yet, get them on Blogger in order!
And then write.....LOL!
The best to you my friend--I'll be back to blog hopping after the New Year.

Beautiful Anne! I'm leaving this up while I start my day. The music and pictures to keep me company while I wait for the rest of the family to stir out of bed. Thanks for a wonderful year of inspiring posts.

Beautiful!! We, too, leave all our decorations up until Epiphany. And Struwwelpeter - what memories! I grew up with that book and I still quote from it sometimes... It used to scare me, which I guess was the purpose of it. ;) Wishing you a wonderful day!! Love, Silke

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hi Silke!

I was wondering if you would have had Struwwelpeter! I loved that book---was utterly terrified but read and read from it. No idea where the original copy went in our travels. But when I opened this one I was surprised how much I remembered, especially the Great Agrippa and his inkwell and Fat Augustus who would not eat! LOL! (this is what most kids need now.....)

Anne, these photos are beautiful and your words are, too. I especially love the first and last photo. For some strange reason, I bring my St. Francis statue in every winter ~ I guess I worried that he would crack from the cold. Went in the garage the other day and he had fallen over and broke to pieces. ): I should have left him out in the snow. I will now be on a St. Francis search. I'd like to find an old one with a nice patina. (If yours should be missing one night.....) hahahaha
Your photos tell a story and are always beautiful and enjoyed.
Thank you for being there. (You know what I mean.)

Hey Audrey,

If I find St. Francis missing one night, all I'll have to do is search the local hospitals for someone admitted thru E.R. with a hernia! (he is affectionately known as *Hernia Henry*) Yes, there's a story there, for later!
Sorry yours broke---mine is slowly fading away, but there is a charm to it. ;-)

St. Francis reminds of the time driving through Tucson when hubby's sister-in-law said, stop, go back, I want that statue! Took two grown men to get it into the car for its trip north, where it oversees the lily pond and many raccoon and bird visitors. I loved seeing yours with all the snow - which I miss out here. Loved your socks! Peace for the New Year!

Lovely, Anne. Love the "red light district" tree...it's soooo "Anne!!" Had the opportunity to get one, but they only had the display tree and it was a bit worn for wear...oh poo!!

Have a relaxing, chillaxing New Year's Eve...what else can one do in that snow-covered landscape????!???!??! You guys from Notre Dame are here for the Sun "Bowel" game..they're enjoying the our great weather, but it all comes to an end starting tomorrow when we again begin the exchanging of real estate with Mexico and the state of NM!! Then we'll get a bit of winter...down into the 40's...they should feel right at home to a degree!! haha!! Poor FL State might do so well!!

Planning on staying in and staying warm and stir the pot of menudo every-so-often for the New Years Eve family "pachanga!" Beaner term for "party!"

Loves ya,
G

Lovely post Anne. You are quite the poetess, along with all your other talents including photography. Cute jammies, and your sox are too cool, I'm sure you knitted them yourself. Thanks for sharing, have a wonderful day.

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hey Linda!

So you have a Hernia Henry story too! (I thought I was the only one...heehee!) OMGosh...those things are so deceptive in weight!
I love those socks too but they were a PITA to knit. Oy.
Have a great New Year; it will no doubt be then that I get back on here to post!

Hey Georgina!

I love my little red tree; I have a massive, prelit *regular* tree I could put up but the red one is kinda cool and it takes me about an hour from start to finish to decorate it. I miss the other ornaments.....but I don't miss the full week + of work. Noooooooo I don't! (Actually, watch Big Lots next year and see if you can't find one of these. They had a ton here; would have gotten you one had I known...)
And here is to your Menudo! I think I am doing a big Gumbo for New Years Day......

Lord pity the people who drive down this road early in the morning on any given day.....heaven only knows WHAT they will see running around! LOL! I love those PJs--now I need to knit some equally bright socks to go with them! :-D
And Happy New Years to you and yours~~with good food and good wine and good art!!!

Hey Jan,

I'm not sure about the poetess part; I was flipping thru the rhyming dictionary waaaaaaay too much for this one. I think my brain was frozen. Plus Sweet Pea was *helping* at the top of her little voice....LOL!!!
And yes, I knit those socks and will never try that intricate a pattern again! AAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!

Thank you for posting these lovely photos, Anne... I love them all! Especially because they unraveled a little bit more about you. Well, your feet, anyway! Which I will cherish forever.. Hahaaaa...

Nice to know you had a snug warm X-mas... hopefully New Year's Eve will be a blast! Hugs!

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hi Mary Helen!

Okay, I had picked up those boots at one of the Aldi grocery stores a year or so ago; they get special purchase stuff and I plunked down a whole $10 for them. (because I have real farm boots and was dithering on spending the money.....)But I bet there are a lot of companies that make something close to them.
Hope you have a Happy New Years Eve! We're keeping it simple here---I'll probably snooze in the New Year...hahaha!!

Hi Amalia!

Yes, I am unraveling slowly, anyway you look at it! heehee! I'm going to be one of those little old ladies with way too much make up and dressed in clothes that make others need sunglasses so as not to blind them. Perfecting my eccentricities now. ;D
Hope you have the best of New Years, especially with your beautiful and amazing art. Enjoy the process---I have had too many jobs that I missed the love of the moment by trying to get the work done. And we can't recapture that once gone.

Hi Annie,

I love when the snow is on the trees and plants; they all look magical and totally transformed!
Sadly, we had rain and all the snow is now mud..... >:-[
Thanks on the socks---they were truly a pip to knit! (but yummy to wear--merino!)
Hope you had a good holiday!
