Few Words Necessary.......

.....but let me introduce last evening's excitement.
This was a classic *Duratio*   a C-shaped band of storms that hold their strength over many States and get stronger as they barrel across the country. These can produce damage as severe as an EF-1 tornado with straight line wind gusts and the particular band you are looking at packed 80 MPH wind gusts, which is the same as hurricane wind speeds.
I am a sturdy girl, but when taking the top three photos, I was almost flattened to the ground by wind. I decided that sense was the better route to choose and made it back to the studio in one piece! (and not crawling...)

And then miraculously afterwards, we were blessed with these visions.....a full arc rainbow with hints of the second arc. It was so steep due to the angle of the sun, it was getting close to the shape of the St. Loius Arch.
As the sun set......the sky turned magical with clouds as if picked from a painting and warm gold color everywhere, but only briefly.

.........What a night........!!!!!

Anne, I have been meaning to comment for quite a while now.... but I could NOT let these fantastic photos go without saying how powerful they are. Nature is so strong - so beautiful - and sometimes so deadly.

I am glad you are okay....

And, I have to say - you are our blogging group's "Poetess"! I enjoy everything you write!

Hugs,

♥ Robin ♥

Hey Lenna,

It was a far more interesting night than I cared for! LOL! Wish I could have gotten more shots of the storm coming is but it was just too HUGE, and I don't have a wide-angle lens for the camera....
I think I'll just sit in a heap today.

Hey Marilyn,

That was pretty much how I felt when I flopped into bed around midnight---that I had no clue what was going on!
it was very bad thru the state, but for whatever reason, not on these little acres, and I am thankful!
No more.......PUH--LEEEEZE!!!!

Fantastic pictures! We had the same storm roll through last night when I was downtown after dinner -- everybody came out of the restaurant to see the double rainbow -- you could see the entire arc! No camera, of course, but there was a lightning storm to drive home by and the same beautiful sky in front of us to the west.

So glad you weren't really blown away...LOL!

Oi, glad to know you are safe. Great photos and what a wonderful timeline!

Did ya go looking for you pot of gold??? LOL Used to mess with my kids about that and made them go looking for it until they realized it was just too far away...they're still little looking though!! LOL

Got to go Father's Day shopping...nothing like leaving it for the last minute. Have been feeling like caca all week...getting the brain zaps now...yeeeooowwweee!! But I have no choice today, told my brain I was going to do something constructive today and if she didn't like it, well, too bad...do you think I came across to harsh?? I'll find out, the b--ch!! Hope weather improves and you start coming out of the "sqeeesh" mode into the "I can't breath because it's so humid" mode!! We're sweltering here...3 digits back, but with some respite tomorrow...lower 90's!! Oh well, it's West TX, what do you expect??!!!

Love ya mucho,
G

Next time remember that you probably have a video option on your camera. I forget I have that but sometimes I remember and so now I have some little clips of video. Might have been cool to have even 30 seconds of that storm. Man, I don't like big wind!! It sounds like you need to decorate your cellar this year, you have had to spend so much time in there. Nice photos but I hope you don't have occasion to snap more of them. That is too much to hope for. I can show you photos of drizzly rain. How boring would that be? Take care, my friend.

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hey Karen,

Aren't those double arc rainbows just amazing??? That is the only part of the storm that is worth while! LOL!!!
I think I'd just like one after a regular rain shower please! :)

Hey Leslie,

It was odd but during the middle of the storm everything was dark and sheets of rain; you can only get the before and after pics.
Had one go thru at 2:30 but I just staggered back to bed. Too tired to care! LOL!!

Georgina, I tell you, I've been looking for that pot 'o gold numerous times this year! HAHAHA!!!! That's how many rainbows we've had that seem to start and end just across the road!
Good luck with the shopping....ICK.

Hey Jan,

I am all for drizzly rain at this point! :D
My camera does have a video feature, but I think it records voice too, and some of the things I accidently *say* when storm chasing would have to be edited out......LOL!!!
No, you really don't want to hear or see in motion those winds. Trust me.

There's no place like home...There's no place like home....
Urlike, that is EXACTLY how I have felt! I need to buy a wicked witch costume and just put it on for the season....confuse the locals! HA!
The weather pattern set up in late winter----so I knew come Spring, we were going to get plastered again and again. I'm thankful it has not been worse than it was.

P.S. took the "Yard-Man" card to the cellaer with me too---if I'm going, so is Cap'n Jack, boots and all! LOL!!!!

Hiya Anne!! Darn I was so wishing those winds would blow you my way but ~alas~ wrong direction. You have captured some phenomenal shots. And although those winds were scary yesterday the clouds they dragged along were beautiful.

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Yeah Elena,

We need one of those winter Nor'Easters to get me going in your direction!
I am always amazed completely by the beautiful clouds after these awful storms.....unbelievable....

Those black clouds are ominous looking, Anne. When I lived in Ohio we had those kind of storms often. Very unnerving. Glad you are safe.
Great photos. What we won't do to get a picture. Yipes!!
It is 93* today - horrible, humid, hot!!! I want a pool, I want the ocean, I want a lake or a stream. I guess the shower is going to have to do!
♥ audrey

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hey Audrey,

Yeah, that whole storm system took right off to Ohio after battering us....and truly; what we don't do for a photo! (I get that from Dad...)
It's warm here today but a good breeze, otherwise I think it would be miserable.
And I think everyone should have a pool. I, of course, do not, so it's the shower here too! LOL!!
Stay cool!

I'm glad you're okay, Anne! I've experienced summer storms to that degree here and they're quite scary. You can literally feel and smell the air change as they visibly and dramatically make their approach. I always pray they will give us a wide berth because they can cause so much damage.

Stay safe....btw, awesome photos!

Deborah said...

Now Anne, this is the THIRD TIME I have had to retrieve your plastic wine glass floating in the pool and Audrey had to help me get you back in your rubber duckie float. DO NOT pull that swim cap down over your eyes and ignore me!!! Oh dear. **cheers** Deb

What drama. Dangerous as these storms can be, knowledge of self-preservation and a healthy respect for their power, is all you really need to get you through. Oh yeah, and patience. You seem to have an abundance of all three.

What drama. I imagine that all that is really needed is a large dose of self-preservation and a healthy respect for the power of these sorts of storms. Oh, and patience to get through as they pass over us. You seem to have an abundance of all three.

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hi Serena,

That was the same here; I has been out earlier putting a few yard implements away and the *storm smell* was all through the air, plus the feel had changed---can't describe it. You just know it if you live where you have them!
Thanks on the pics!
