Racing The Rain......

In a vain effort to get a post in the can, featuring one of my favorite flowers, I find I am racing storms barreling across the mid-west.
The flowers above are what I LOVE about this time of year.
Dodging the bullets of severe weather is NOT my idea of fun.
As most of you know, I post the day ahead when I can, so it is the birds and I hanging on for dear life while DH teaches. (I'm not sure any of this phases him.....lucky soul!)
The narcissus blossoms sprung up overnight and then bloomed promptly. Spring is compacted into such a small amount of days anymore, it seems. There is little time to leisurely enjoy the entrance of the season. The trees burst forth into bloom and are gone, the flowers pop and fade, I find myself running like a crazed hare around and around the yard to get photos before something is windblown and gone......
Such a life!
Alas, I hear the rumblings of thunder in the distant dark skies, and rain is pelting the studio door.
I shall bid you Adeiu.......there are more days to write and under safer conditions.
Until later (when I have crawled out from under the table!) to all of you.....

Pax.

I always love your humour in your writing. Love those flowers too. Know what you mean the rain has not stopped here since I arrived from Montreal. My Magnolia bush is in bloom and too wet to take a photo. I am sure it will be all brused by the time the sun comes out. Nice to be home and back to some normality LOL.

Hey Bunny,

Last evening I stood on the porch and watched almost all the petals fall from the weeping cherry and the magnolia get pounded to pieces. It is so frustrating! You wait all winter and get the blooms and then WHAM! Gone.
Plus Blogger was to have published this early and chose not to.....grrrrr.....
Time for more coffee!!! LOL!!

Anne, what a beautiful photo once again. Isn't it just so amazing how everything the flower needs to be the flower is right there in the bulb. God is so clever. Spring really does burst forth, yes? **blows sunny skies your way** Deb

Dear Anne, oh, how I don't like severe weather. You are reminding me that it's time to get my weather radio out. The time for storms is approaching. I don't think I'll ever get used to that, especially when the sirens go off in the middle of the night... Daniel, being from Ohio, is very calm during storms, especially tornado watches and warnings, and that is good for me!

Yes, weeks can get away from us, can't they?! It's already Thursday and last Thursday seems like it was only 10 minutes ago. How does this happen?!

Well, I'm off to vacuum, then get a shower and then PLAY for the rest of the day!! Yeah!!!

Sending much love, Silke

We are to get severe t-storms this evening. I suppose it is Mother Nature's trade-off for the beautiful warm weather. Then we will turn cooler & more seasonable.....Oh well, it was nice, very nice while it lasted!!
Take care & don't bump your head on that table!! LOL!!
Love,
Marilyn

Those April showers will bring 'more flowers' for sure!! Soon we'll be complaining about how hot it is! I don't care for the storms either and another reason I don't want to live in Fl. full time!! Don't like those hurricanes! Take care!!!!

Anne-I love spring also and living in the Midwest, it seems like it gets shorter and shorter. All the flowering trees are just gorgeous, altho we had high winds and heavy rain a couple of nights ago and many blossoms got blown off!! I really like your photo of the marcissus--and i love the way they smell!!

Hi Anne! If the wind doesn't get them, the rain does. I am going to go snap a pic of my weeping cherry before it all hits later today. :) Be sure to take some snacks with you under the table so you don't get hungry! xox Pam

Rain???? What's that?????

Love your writing! I've been watching the brave little flowers peek out into the world only to get hit with rain one day and now the threat of a nightime frost. Poor things.

I love these flowers! The weather we have had here in Oregon make the daffodils seem to last forever. It is cold and damp. Woke to the deck covered in white and it is in the 30's. Not much flowering here besides the daffs.

Marie S said...

OMG!!! Your narcissus are gorgeous, mine are all white, but the have the best smell I have ever smelt.
Time flies so fast or seems to I think, becuase we have so much to get done. I am finding that 24 hours in a day is just not enough.
Send pictures of storms.
I love them and we just don't get enough lightning out here. Earthquakes, yes!
Have a safe day.
Giant hugs.

Hey Deb,

Spring really does *burst*....and today, it's only in the 40's and we may get snow flurries tonight!
What a year! LOL!!!

Hi Silke,

I have NEVER adjusted to the severe weather here. I hate it with a passion. Sometimes DH doesn't seem to pay attention to any of it and I'm doing my "Chicken Little" imitation...the sky is falling! AHHHHH!!!!
I just hide in the cellar....

Hi Robbie,

I'm with you; I don't think I could take hurricane season! I love the thought of being in New Orleans year round, but then that thing about hurricanes enters the pic, and , well, Indiana looks a little better...HA!

Hey JAnet,

Yes, it really does seem like the Midwest has no Spring, at least not like we used to. It's comd one day, hot the next, then a storm, then cold, then SUMMER.
I miss the long, lush Springs we used to have.....

Oh Georgina, IF ONLY!!!! I would send you all the rain we got here, which was the edge only on the storm. It would probably have flooded your area.....

Oh, Anne, it is sad but true. Spring bursts forth with all its beauty and is gone in the blink of an eye. I, too, photograph every single thing I see. I just can't get enough. The HEAT will be upon us before we know it and I will be wishing for Spring breezes to cool this everlasting heater that is buried inside this body!!!
Beautiful flowers, Anne.

Hi Elena,

Same here....my wisteria is pushing out the bud clusters and I just KNOW that the cold tonight will get them, like last year. Ooooooo.....it makes me so mad! (and yes, it is too big to cover...)

Hey Jan,

Yeah, possibility of snow showers here too. Just crazy. And it was 81 the other day???
No wonder everyone is nuts....my poor body cannot adjust to this crazy up and down!

Hey Marie!

HA!!! You want me to go OUT in the storm to get pics????? (okay, I have taken some photos of threatening cloud formations, but not when there is lightening!)
Sometimes after storms have passed there will be beautiful sunsets with cloudtops soooo high. They are beautiful but you know they are serious nasty business!
And I need more than 24 hrs. in a day, but haven't figgured that one out yet..... ;)

Hey Audrey,

LOL!!! Yes, my internal heater seems to kick in the minute I try and sleep! Which is NOT good!
I am glad I'm not the only one trying to capture Spring in the camera lens. You just have to run and do it in the moment!
Which could be why I am accomplishing nothing else! :D

Hi Marydon,

Yes, it is sort of a race to get what photos you can....I really would prefer a more leisurely pace!!! (but the weather did not ask me! HA!)
Maybe it will calm a bit soon.....

Thanks Anne, that was easy! LOL!!
Anne, I thought it was pretty easy and a smart cookie like you should probably pick up on it real quick.
You do not have to do anything except punch buttons and try stuff first. Do not hit apply to blog, that's all, just play frst. You can also download your whole blog and reload it if you hate the changes. They have a whole tutorial in there about it.
I just went in and played with color schemes and borders and font for a few days before commiting to anything. The Budda bust is very nice for the outside.
I would have liked to load my own picture for the outside background. It actually probably saved me from getting too busy though. LOL!! I like this right now and it feels good and I am so happy with the results. I don't mind helping if I can, so leap baby! LOL!! Some of the changes do not show up until you hit apply to blog, just so you know!!
I probably would have been struck by lightening 50 times by now if I lived where you do. ;-D

Hi Anne,
What a way to have my first coffee in the morning-reading your latest post and having a laugh.
You write so well, I am imagining you running around like a hare with your camera trying to take pics of everything before the rain and wind takes the new buds away.
Happy Creating,
Hugs,
Anna

Hey Marie,

I know better.....I am not changing a thing on this blog till I figure out pages, and that will be a great accomplishment! (but I need a good block of quiet time to do that---HA!)
So I shall just stay as I am....cluttered and content! LOL!

The storms can be brutal .... that is why we snap quick shots as records... everything is still looking good around here ,,,,

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

My flowers are all off the cherry, the magnolia lost a lot of petals, but still is full.....I'm not sure of the small flowers.
We must have just been on the very bottom edge of last nights storm, because it wasn't as bad as the NWS said.....not that it was GOOD ya know! ;)
I need to check the narcissus and see if they should come in as a bouquet.....

I'm with you on running around trying to get pictures. Just this morning pulling out of the driveway I see purple. Wow! When did the wisteria tree bloom?!! My hubby said so much for spring here for a week and then gone! The pollen has been terrible here, green everywhere, and on me too if I stay outside long enough!!

kj said...

anne, i hope the sun is shining for you tomorrow!

i am in the middle of four days of a glorious spring. in two days the trees have flowered, the dafs are up, the azeleas are open, and my little penis-like magnolia tree has amazing buds (blame the penis image on my dear friends lori and robyn, they've been giggling about it)

i know what you mean about time. i work three days a week, write another one or two, and fill in the spaces with chores and friends and of course blogging!!

okay, now, as you read this: is it raining???????

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hi Ulrike,

It is the same everywhere; an onslaght of pollen, everything bloomed out and then gone.
I have to check my wisteria this morning to see if it survived the cold last night.....it was at the stage of walnut sized buds....and lots of them.....

Yep we are hunkering down too dodging the storms. So far, rain but no storm. It is just a matter of time. You are so right about the spring not hanging around long. It will be hotter than hades in just a few more days. I am glued to the TV watching The Masters. Golf is my favorite sport to watch on TV. No arting for me these days.

Oh for the days of Spring lasting longer than a few hours....
Back to my gesso and rooting through pieces for collage....at least it's too cold to mow! :D

Hello Anne! Week's over but the weekend is busy again. So. I just finished putting away my project binder for implementation on Monday. Okay. What a lovely macro shot of the flowers! Take some more! How are you?

Snowbrush said...

I'm with you on the narcissi (and yellow daffodils) being the best thing about this time of year. I was sick pretty much all winter each year as a child, and I soon learned that the season of illness was drawing to a close when I saw these beautiful flowers.

Here in Oregon, we rarely hear thunder. As a former Mississippi boy, I miss it. I DON'T miss tornados though.
