The Grey Days Of Late Winter

I am going through one of those late Winter phases where not only is the body in slow motion, but the mind as well. Yes gentle readers, it has slowed more than it usually is. In fact, if my brain activity could be checked with a blood pressure cuff, I am sure I would be ready to code.
I jinxed myself writing about the 400th post.
That's it. I am sure.
The brain figured out I had used it that hard and decided we were going on a vacation, at least inside the cranium.
Mark this on your calenders: Anne is at a loss for words. (actually, I should probably have that printed poster sized for my DH to savor.......)
I have, piled up, things to photograph for the blog, but have not had time. The scarf that never ends now has a matching tam, with pompoms on top, I still have the endearingly nicknamed *socks-from-H#LL* that need their little picture taken, there are a couple of items I got into frames yesterday that are a post in and of themselves and they need to primp for their close ups.
And there are the banners I have been working on, lugging heavy duty sewing machines on top of boxes and cutting tables so I can work standing up. It is much more comfortable than the contorted sitting and sewing I had been doing, but it is not easy to figure out the logistics of *how* to make it all work. While trying to figure out a particular element that needs construction for this project, my mind has wandered off and solved some of the issues (or at least produced what seem to be viable ideas for some innovative items) to incorporate into the piece. I never seem to be able physically or mentally to work on one thing at a time; my best problem solving is letting the grey matter wander until it has solutions while occupied with something completely different.
So, in a very long winded manner--as usual!--I am saying it will probably be a quiet weekend in Anne's little corner of blogland as I deal with some of the things that need attention. Hopefully Monday I will have a post with enticing photos and be able to prattle in an entertaining manner about them.
Today though, it is work and then a bit of rest. Because once again, I have worn myself out running and next Tuesday I see my surgeon for a little pas-de-deux, and I want him happy. I don't want to tell him about how many times I have been up and down the stairs, standing calf-deep in the snow shooting frost pictures  or the particularly funny-but-humiliating story of the huge spider in the studio bathroom that decided he needed to get up close and personal while my PJ drawers were at half mast. (for anyone who heard strange screams in the last few days....that was me in de-spidering mode)
Alas, as I look at this, it is utter proof that I can talk about absolutely nothing. So now I'm off to slowly greet the day and hope there is a lot of creativity flowing in blogland, and I apologize for not having a "Take Your No-Doze" warning at the beginning of this.
And the pic today?
It has nothing to do with anything, other than it is monotone like the slumbering earth right now, and I guess I am the bulb, waiting for Spring to come to burst forth and make something beautiful.
To all of you........make something beautiful, and.......

Pax.

Oh these last few weeks of winter are not my favorite at all. I have a hard time getting through them since I am anxious to be outside. My hubby says that a woman needs to get in so many words per day, and that's why I tell him I blog!!!
Hope you have a wonderful weekend, get rested for the doc, and bring home a good report!

Hi Ulrike!

I love your husband's comment about a woman's words!!! YES! I agree, even if I have nothing to say......
I too am waiting to get outside and see the little bits of green peeping through the soil.
I just am impatient. :)

Hi Anne! I love it when you ramble. LOL!!! Seriously, you ramble so well, and it's like taking a little raft and getting on a gentle stream...very soothing somehow. Or maybe I need that second cuppa! :) I know how you feel. There are so many things I need to 'finish up', photos taken, things posted, little jobs that need doing...and all I want to do is NAP. LOL! I think we are hibernating! Take care of yourself, and putter as the cranium sees fit! Happy weekend - xoxo Pam

Hey Pam,

It's just this time of YEAR! Somehow the end of February sucks the life out of me, and I just want to be a big fat bear and hibernate and not be bothered. Sleep till the snow and cold are gone!
I'm all for the second cuppa...though I will be on my third and I'm enjoying it, but it's not doing anything! LOL!!!
HAve a good one my friend!

Hi Anne, your post made me laugh - perfect to start my day. First thing I'll do - check for spiders in the bathrooms...

I love this time right before spring comes out to play (which I know is much earlier where we are). We are expecting sunshine and 68 degrees here this weekend and I am planning outdoor things - yard work, painting the front and back doors bright orange (!!!), etc. Can't wait to get outside...

Wishing you a relaxed day! Get much rest!! Love, Silke

I should ramble as well! Love the post - you always make me smile! And be good to yourself - you don't want the doc yelling at you....remember, spring will come eventually....I'll post some "springy" pics this weekend of the desert!

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hi Silke!

If I clean your bathrooms, can I come play in the 68 degrees??? <:)
Wow! That sounds so wonderful!
I should have done the whole spider story, but there is only so much you can humiliate yourself in 24 hours...LOL!!! You know what I mean. Have a very lovely WARM day!!

Hey Linda,

If I could just get PAID for rambling...that would be good, yes? LOL!!!
I was brain dead when I started the post; I swear this is my equivilant of Artists Pages....which I used to do but found they took too much time! HA!
Yes please, Spring photos! I again went out in 9 degrees in PJs to shoot a beautiful sunrise.....DUH.

I've been searching for a good word to describe the outdoors right now. Monotone is perfect! I'm ready for Spring.

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

So am I Vicki.....to the point of taking green paint and throwing it all over the yard and sitting inside and deluding myself for a while...LOL!!!
Well, it sounds good, eh? :)

I think everyone has HAD IT with this winter. We are all ready for some sunshine and flowers. Digging in the dirt and planting some beautiful flowers (AND GREEN THINGS) sounds real good right now.
I, too, have a zillion things in the works and I am determined to post a little painting I've been playing around with ~ I hope to finish this weekend!.
I can deal with the small ones, but I DO NOT LIKE large spiders! I OFTEN have nightmares about them crawling on my bedroom walls. What's up with that? HELP!!
Enjoy the weekend, Anne. I hope you get a little caught up.

Hey Audrey,
I wouldn't even begin to analize the dream, but I can assure you it's better than one of those big hinking brown hairy spiders, about the size of a half dollar deciding your ankle is a nice place to jump and rest! LOL!!! (if that's any consolation.....NOT!)
I'm anxious to see your painting!!!! :D

I LOVE your rambling, Anne. It comforts me and make me feel all safe and cozy. And you're a blast! You can come sit at my cantina any day and ramble alllllll you like. I will sit there, all doe-eyed, attentive, while sipping my Margarita. Happy Weekend!

We both desperately need a vacation!
Or good wine....lots of it.... ;)
Or I just need to go plug my bass in and beat the CRAP out of it for a bit, preferrably on some Misfits song.
Anne is NOT having a good day---LOL!!!

Good day Anne. I am finding it difficult this past two weeks to keep my motivation going as well. I am sure in my case it's a combo of meds, puppy duty and weather skitsofreezmeia!! It's gray and dark, then white and sunny... cold cold cold then bearable. Can't make it's mind up. I'm not usually one to have too many projects going on at once but I have 5. I need to tie up loose ends and address them immediately before I move on to others. Chin up, there is afterall, always tomorrow. Annie promises it! *wink*

Hugs and love

Hey T,

Yeah, my problem has been enjoying all those *tomorrows* and getting little done in the meantime! (and time passes fast when you have a looming deadline.....)
Don't know how you're keeping up with puppy-detail, but props to you girl! That's the same as a baby!
DH told me to do nothing today; for once, I am listening!!! HA!

i can never quite figure out how february can be the longest month when it has the fewest days, but there you have it! 9 days to go. put on some loud rock & roll- that should energize you! oh, but you might dance..... never mind!

Ces Adorio said...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Aaaahhhhhh! YOU are SOOOO FUNNY! I am laughing so hard. Thank you. Oh what a great sense of humor you have. You must laugh all the time. Okay I have to make dinner. I almost took a nap listening to your music. It is very relaxing.

How's everything going, Anne! I thought I'd check in as I sit here with my heating pad around my feet... It only got up to 54 today, but tomorrow and Sunday - I have high hopes.

I checked for spiders and didn't find any. Nor did I find any other bugs (thank goodness) or snakes... No screaming today!

How's your banner project going? Is your deadline coming up? I'm always amazed at how many other things I can find to do (like looking for spiders) when a deadline is looming...

Hope you are staying warm!! And resting!! Hugs, Silke

Oh Leslie....The *Rippit Frog* visited my hour last night....three rows out on two circulars, and one row with decreases, and of course I knit tight.
I guess I should have bought FROG traps instead of for the ants.....LOL!!!
I'm still trying to figure out the next section of instructions, to get the socks divided right. They may have to go off the circulars for redistribution of stitches, then back on.
AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!

Hey Marianne,

I am with you! Normally I am not *this bad* in February (I guess usually because I run like a madwoamn!) but this year---OY!!!
Yeah, I need to crank up the punk tunes, and yes, I actually CAN dance now---the hip is THAT GOOD! (it's just the knee....) It's not pretty, but the birds enjoy it! HAHAHAHA!!!!

Hey Ces----back atcha for giving me the laughs!!!!
No, there is usually a lot of cussing too, though for anyone watching, that can be funny!!!
I have my Dad's sense of humor; I wish he was alive that he could post on here because everyone would roll. He was something else...would set you up for a joke and you never knew it was coming!
yes, it is the Huskey in me that is the comedienne! ;)

Hi Silke,

Did nothing yesterday--tried to and just did not have it. Sat and knit (and ripped out...).
The banners must be delivered before Easter, sooooooo, that deadline meets me every morning I walk in the studio and boot the computer up.
I'll make it; I always do (other than when I had to go to the hospital last year!) but sometimes it is like a noose about the neck....
Have a good one!

Speaking of spiders...another silly (but true) story for you. Setting: approx. midnight. Wife was in bed. Plot: Husband on his way after letting dog out. Story: Wife suddenly hears a tremendous amount of crashing and banging (accompanied by cursing). Wife wonders what in heck is going on, hauls out of bed, tears down the stairs in time to see husband doing what appears to be a Mexican Hat Dance in the middle of the floor. Turns out husband had sent a spider across the great divide, but not before she'd rid herself of literally HUNDREDS of babies!!

Oooooooooo!!!!! M.A.!!!! I don't know if I would have keeled over from spider fear or laughing at DH and his Dance of Destruction!!!
I have SO needed a good laugh today, and this is perfect!
