Yesterday's Venture

(this is NOT me....in case you were wondering.....but I do rather like those fringed satin drawers she's wearing!!!)

Yesterday turned out quite well......I am happy to say I have a perfect incision! And let me tell you, it is a big honking incision, but reasonably smooth and nicely in the process of healing. Of course, my days as a sexy lingerie model are over with.....LOL!!!
Seriously, I saw the Dr's Nurse and she was very, very happy with how the incision was healing, how I was ambulating and the fact that I felt good and really had no questions other than when I could get rid of the compression stockings. (one more week of grueling workouts trying to get that mother on the sock-puller-thingie and yanked onto my foot without killing myself in the process! and you cannot appreciate this maneuver if you've not DONE it......)
I still have the restrictions on bending, etc, which I have been most careful with anyway, and of course keeping things clean and sterile and the Ecotrin to keep my blood thin----which, as cold as I normally am, I'm thinking it is pretty thin on it's own! HA! I have one old ballet move that allows me to pick things up from the floor without bending the hip at all, but I neglected to mention that. I mean, no one asked and I thought why bother or have to demonstrate.....  :-)  I go back in a month, and I am hoping at that time I may be a bit more flexible, or allowed to be flexible, like *Miz Twistee* up top........nah, not really. I'd be unable to get myself undone if I ever tried anything like that, though I can't figure why I would want to.....maybe DH would have an answer to that one! SNARF!
All in all, it was a good day with clear roads and time with hubby, who has been a saint throughout this process. I am sure he is ready to put a leash on me so I can only go so far and get into only so much......
I have officially hit the point of *ants in the pants* and each day it gets worse. I want to work but spend most of my time exercising, trying to clean up, do little things in the house and then flop and snooze. Most of what I normally do in the studio is still *undoable* due to bending restrictions, so it's best to stay out other than sitting at the computer in the morning. Knitting is, at the moment, the best I can manage and I am keeping myself restrained so that I don't have to go through all this fun again. Once, I think, is enough.
So I am going to attempt to find something to amuse myself with today that keeps me out of trouble and on that road of recovery......it is sooooooo hard to be GOOD!!! (and a lot of you know that from personal experience, too!!!)
Until later, when I have something of modest interest to post......or brain drivel that is boring but humorous......or I'm just going stir crazy and feel the need to share.....
I bid you all,

Pax.

Hi Ya' Anne!!
So good to hear you got a good report!! Doesn't it feel great to know you don't have to go back for a month??!! I always like that...gives a feel of freedom!!
I remember when I broke my foot I could not get the hang of the crutches nor stay off my foot (what, sit on my butt?? who was he kidding??)At the 4 week check-up I got a new cast because it had softened on the sole & a lecture!! aarrrrgh!! Nothing like the Orthopedic Surgeon giving you hell...especially with Hubby nodding in agreement & full of I-Told-You-Sos!!
So-o-o-o, enjoy your "down-time" & relax!!
Happy New Year!!
Love,
Marilyn

Hey MArilyn,

Yes, I am delicately trying to get around the lectures, etc. I get the little *hints* from DH, and thankfully he doesn't go back to the room with me for the exam---though I have told him he is welcome, he has declined.
I think we are a lot alike! But seriously, as tall as I am, I can't even brush my teeth without bending, so I had to get inventive! And I tell you, that month will F-L-Y. The time since surgery has.....
So here I sit, trying to behave.....LOL!!!

Oh dear Anne, I had both knees replaced the same day and did well, but I had a real battle with the sockie thing but got it to work. I was hell bent and determined to do it myself. Boy I am glad that is over. Happy New Year to you and yours.

Hi QMM,

Yep, until you've had to use that monster, there is no describing it without foul language! LOL!!! But---it does work and it beats going around with frozen feet.
I'll just be glad when I am using it for regular socks and not the elastic one that could propel a spaceship to Mars.....

What DO they make those compressions socks from? I could use some around my waist - haha! You are being a very good girl, and you should reward yourself! (I am into rewards of the non-food variety lately since my jeans are about to burst from my body. Future art supplies, perhaps? Jewels? :). Do you have a laptop? Mine has saved my sanity on many occasions when the old back has sputtered and fritzed. Keep being good, and you will be back to your old fighting form soon. It's good to see your 'Piss & Vinegar' (as my old ma would say) is alive and well. xoxoxo Pam

PS I am very curious about that ballet move - lol!!

Well now, Anne, just who did you pay to get that photo of me onto your computer? LOL!!
Like I could manage that balance act. It hurts to just look at it.
I truly feel for you having to deal with those compression stockings. It is bad enough putting them on oneself, but I had to put them on my Mom every morning for AN ENTIRE YEAR when she injured her leg 3 years ago. I hissed words under my breath that would have scared the devil. Spent every other day at the wound center for months.
It is SO hard to sit still. I was down 2 days with this back and it was driving me crazy to not be able to bend and work and all that. So, I feel for you. Try to be patient. I know ~ difficult.
Off to do some acrobatic positions now.....

I think my orthopedic swimsuit is made of the same stuff as compression stockings!!! I LOVE my swimsuit! Glad to hear the roads were clear and you are behaving yourself. Nap when you need to...it's part of the healing process. Anne, you're a hoot even off your feet. **kisskiss** Deb

Glad to hear that everyone, but you (being restricted as to your motion) is happy with your progress. Hang in there and OMG, Miz Twistee is a hoot and a half.

What a good report - good on you!

I am totally in love with Ms. Twistee up there. I've been called spineless in my time - but I think they meant something else.

Marianne....I think I am all for a martini a day! Maybe I wouldn't be waking up at 4 in the morning! LOL!!!

Pam,

Those compression socks are made from industrial grade lycra spandex, I swear. If you put it around your middle, your poor brain would blow out!!!
I'm thinking my reward will be in the art supply area; DH got me a gift certificate for Dick Blick and I can't wait to use it! :)

Audrey...LOL!!! Oh yes, they are awful and I cannot, in any way, shape or form imagine a YEAR of them! Poor Gary has to help sometimes with the one....then I get laughing.....not good!
And yes, sitting still, other than walking and the exercises, STINKS.
End of story. My little brain is trying to figure things out to do....

Oh, Deb, I need an Orthopedic Swimsuit. The lasyt one I bought was skirted, designed for someone twice my age. Could barely get it over my rear. I need one with a lace up corset center! HA!
Trying to get it off without hurting myself was a laugh too.... :)

And still be good, of course!

Hey Tristan, I would pay good money to see you get in that pose and then do whatever the heck it is she's doing! LOL!!!!
Then I guess I'd be paying for the ambulance to take you to the Ortho Ward for detwisting.....not as humorous now...... ;)

Hi Anne,
Glad to hear your wound is looking good.
A friend recently had her hip replaced and she commented "she was doing 400 exercises per day"

Ah, it will be worth it in the long run!
Happy healing thoughts.
Hugs,
Anna

Hi Kat,

Welcome! I already know it is worth it as there is more mobility than I've had all year; I just need an IV full of patience on a fast drip! LOL!!!
Sooner, hopefully, I will have something more entertaining than the hip adventure.... ;)

Hi Anna,

Yes, I had not added it up, but that is probably about right. They are easy though; I start before I get out of bed, when I sit, when I stand waiting on tea or whatnot to heat.....it's easy to fit them into the day. And so worth it having the length back and a more normal gait than I have had since the first surgery.
No complaints!!! :)

Have you ever noticed that when you first put on the "bloodclotsocks" they feel really good... like a massage.? Then about 2 days in enough already eh? But they do serve their purpose.

Had my test today. It was a very very trying day all day. Maybe results tomorrow. Not sure. Be glad when they come in.

It's bitter cold here!! Bitter. Not liking it at all.

Glad your feeling better.

You are so much like me. I cannot stand to be bed ridden for too long. I must be up and about doing SOMETHING! :D Glad to hear that things are progressing well. Hang tight and pace yourself. Hugs!

Thanks Gypsy!
Needless to say, I will NOT be trying anything that requires more than basic motions at the moment, or in the near future! I couldn't have done that when I wa young and semi-limber! LOL!!!

Hey Tammy,

Yeah, now that you mentioned it, they did feel fairly good the first day or two.
But that passed....quickly!!! But just another week and I am being good, so each day, I just sort of think one less time.
Hope you get your results soon--waiting is awful.
And it is bitter cold up here too; furnace ran a lot and I layered on more clothing. Brrrrrr.....

Hi Sophia,

I am pacing myself as best I can---actually, my stamina decides when I am going to rest, which is more frequent than I would like but I listen to it. I figure it is all in getting well quicker!!! YAY!!!
Take care--

Anne...Thank you so much for your help with the rust of fabric. I appreciate that so much. Didn't know you just had a surgery...behave yourself. I have learned the hard way in the past :>)) Mary

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Mary, believe me, I am behaving as best I can......REALLY! Well, it's not perfect but a lot better than my usual behaviour...so I consider it good. Will find out when I see the surgeon on the 26th. I hope he is a happy camper that day.....
Oh you may need a little water with the vinegar to get things goin. Been a long time since I did that with fabric.
