Will miracles never cease......give me some studio time and things actually happen! This all started with an odd piece of light weight brown paper that had come as packing in something. It had interesting texture and I had kept it for MONTHS. It laid on the kitchen counter, getting no closer to the studio until the Great Holiday Sweep, to find the counters and cover them with appropriate pretties. Which is about normal here.....
It was large enough that it yielded two decent size pieces, and I chose to leave the top torn edge, as I found them more visually interesting that way. First I painted roughly with off white acrylic and a float medium; I did not want gesso as I felt it would grab too much. I wanted the substrate to be smooth enough to smoosh things around. Yes, *smoosh* is a very technical term......I also had some paper toweling I had painted with fluid acrylic, on a day where I ran to the cellar for a whole ten minutes. I was having a fit to pull it apart and try it on something.
I stamped tissue paper for the B&W images, then began building color and texture through paint, stamps, embossing and finally, glitter. The close up below shows it a bit better. I was just having fun, seeing what would work with what and trying to keep the two as semi mirror images shape wise but not content wise. And being extremely impatient, I heated an old iron, got my teflon pressing sheet and heat dried things as I went. It did some unusual texture in the gel medium....not at all bad but too subtle to show up here. I probably ruined the sheet for fabric work but it works great in the studio!!! :-)
After getting the two sheets to a point where I knew I needed to stop, I took the brown paper remnants and some leftover white tissue paper and stamped them for future collage work. I think I could get into making collage papers to sell. There is something quite satisfying in that phase alone! Plus, I collect a lot of brown paper, and other odd papers, and it all takes ink differently....hmmmmmm.....Etsy? After the first of the new year?
But no, this was not the end of the day---I was on a roll from not having had time to work with messy stuff, soooo.....next photo please...
.....I bravely opened the packet of cardstock ATC blanks and got my pack of water soluble crayons and Sharpies and began doodling, producing the two cards below.
And it was FUN! Like I mentioned yesterday, had my hands not given out, there probably would have been five to post, all variations on a theme. They were my moment of complete epiphany for the day---the lightbulb slowly buzzed and blinked a few times, then went on full bore!
Now I know why people MAKE THESE. Sorry...you're dealing with a Type A personality, and sometimes the simplest of concepts do not translate into Anne-Land. I just don't see it and go my merry way and that's that. But it was wonderful to have this small project while stuck in front of the TV and I'm thinking maybe I should take a pack with me to the hospital when I am unwillingly confined, craving intellectual stimulation, or just trying not to lose my mind. (more like the last option...)
So that was my studio day. I think the two top papers might get mounted on a black 12"x12" canvas panel each; they look great hung as a pair. But I need to think that out yet. I'm feeling like I need texture for the bakground areas. In the mean time, I'll probably tinker with the collage papers and ATCs.
And then I have the church work that needs to get notes made, so my time is getting busier and busier.
And oh yes, I have to wrap the goodies for DH for Christmas before the hospital stay. Ack.
Thus, I am off to try and accomplish a few things and hope y'all have a creative and good day, with little things to show at the end of it.
The small accomplishments are the biggest of blessings!
Pax.

what fun- they look great. love the idea of pre-stamping for future work. i hope to be able to play again soon too- cheers!
Marianne,
I need to do more of that....it's always sort of an afterthought thing. I used to make collage papers just to stash, then sort of got out of the habit...you know the story. The brain wanders!

.......Just goes to show that "just doodlin' around" can produce some beautiful art!!
....Go Etsy.... I think you would do great!!
Happy Holidays!
Love,

Marilyn,
I just want to get this hip thing done and then try and pick up where I was *last* New Year, with the plans I made then. A year behind, but work produced so really, I cannot complain. (well, yes I can but I won't! HA!)

Wow! You really must get more play time in your studio.....these pieces are all wonderful! Ya gotta love it when the light bulb powers up.
Yeah Jill, but like on Beavis and Butthead, that's a small dim bulb that has a hard time buzzing on! LOL!!! Heading back down for a bit...see what happens today. I think I know how I want to mount the papers.....

I love your work. :) And I am all for little do-able pieces. You should make up some ATC baggies for your hospital stay - it might keep you from losing your mind. :) How long will you be in there? Maybe I'll drive over and see you. ;) It would be a long drive, but we could cut and paste together! I'm hoping to get two hours of playtime today. It's been a long time coming! haha! xoxoxo Pam
Love!
Pam,
I'm planning on taking some ATCs and supplies with me. I am not sure how long I'll be there but I think the Dr. said about four days, which in an artists life is a LOOOOOOOONG time!!!
By all means....come....long drive but we could sure decorate up the room and leave our *mark* there! LOL!!! (I wonder if they like skellies???)

Thanks Leslie!!!!

OOOooooo a very productive day in the studio indeed! I love them all. When is your surgery? Sounds like soon...will be lifting you up in prayer. **kisskiss** Deb
Love your "smooshed" work!! You are just incredible, lady....so productive. I almost had a total meltdown yesterday with Miss Daisy. I love my mother so much, but she can really get under my skin, but that's probably what my own daughter says!!! Told her if I ever get "crazy old" like that, please show me the wooden spoon (when my older 2 were little and they really misbehaved, I took out a wooden spoon and would hit it against my the palm of my hand...the slapping sound brought them back to reality and they realized they had seriously erred...never hit it with the spoon, but scared the bajeebers out of them!!)...she got a kick out of that one and knowing Andria, she just might!! LOL
Well, need to go pick up the youngest one, Ian, and bring him back home...need to go into the studio...my mother gave me a project to make jewelry boxes for her granddaughters, my brother's spawn. So off I go. Have a great day and please make more great, smooshed stuff...you've got a real knack there!!
Love y,
G
Hey Deb,
Surgery is the 16th, spent 30 min + on the phone with the nurse and found out I will be INJECTING MYSELF after surgery.....well! That was a surprise!
But it's in my stomach so there's plenty of fat to pad the needle....LOL!!!
And I was trying to ignore everything....hahahahaha.......

Georgina, dear, do you want me to ship that apron off before I go to the Horse-Pistol????
Then you can wear it for Christmas!
Mom always got the fly-swatter after me....I hated the idea of squished flies. ICK!!!
You make me laugh; sounds like DH and I saying, "If I ever get like THAT, kill me..." LOL!!!!
Age...it's......AGE.

Hi Anne,
I love the way you explain your pieces of art and how you achieved them.
This piece is amazing, how you started with brown paper!
Not sure if I missed something-being a sticky beak, I'm not sure why you are going to hospital but I do wish you the very best and hope for a speedy recovery for you.
Hugs,
Anna
Hey Anna Rose,
Hip replacement. Not my idea of how to celebrate turning 50 this month, but if I can walk without pain, well...... >:\ I Fx'ed it back in March, the surgeon was nominal, so I am not surprised this is occuring.
But I have a good doc this time!
And have been *smooshing* paper and paint again today! LOL!!!
It's fun; you just keep adding till it's right!

LOVE the art work you've done, Anne. Fun, isn't it? And therapeutic, too. I see a lot of great art in your future!!
ATCs will be a good thing for you to do in the hospital!
I am putting Christmas trees up today ~ ours and mom's ~ I keep telling myself I am having fun.....
<:
((hugs))
audrey
Audrey.....you keep telling yourself that! LOL!!! I would need an asbestos gag if I had to do two!
I have the paper pieces on 12"x12" canvas panels now and am trying to figure the visual texture I want. I don't think I can do real texture, so I'm winging it.
And I cut 2 dozen ATC blanks from black card stock---thought that might prove fun too.
Back to the art at hand....ummmmm....I actually AM having fun. <:)

Anne
Your art work is just wonderful keep it up.
Thanks Bunny!
I shouldn't be typing....have collage medium and paint all over me!
As Grandpa (the farmer) used to say "Happy as a hog in slop!"
I am!!!

I feel compelled to tell you that, not only can you do paper-based ATC's, you can also do them in fabric too (ducking and running for cover now). Hee hee...you have been assimilated into the atc society!
(Great smooshing, btw)
OMG..Anne...how wonderful seeing you back to your art! This is marvelous!..I'll never look at brown paper the same again!
I also love the future piece that only has the black stamping on it!
Way to go, girl!
I wish we could do studio time 24/7 ...but, i guess we do have to sleep...darn!
XOXO, gypsy
Some of my best projects are those that I grab and do. Just don't look at colors, shapes... nothing. Just grab and do. When I do this with my rag quilts, they are the best sellers. Go figure. But who am I to argue with anyone.
Once again, I was wishing I could be over your shoulder while you work. Well done. Hugs to you and I hope your headache has gone elsewhere for you.
Hugs
Tammy
MA, funny story about the fiber ATCs.
I was in a position that I *HAD* tow make two about three years ago when I did not have time. I made them, they looked good, but I hated doing it---I think because I was forced into it.
I still have them and will have to post pics....they're rather nice.
Odd how the brain works....or doesn't! ;)

Oh Gypsy, it's just a short break before all the sewing starts again. I am hoping to squeeze some little stuff in between the big stuff.....sigh.....anbd I should have been working on that second set of banners, but, you know, the art calls!

Anne
Hey TAmmy,
Me too; I think when our conscious brain gets out of the way, the part that makes art is able to really do it's thing, and do it good!
I've always found that to be the case....the more I think, the less happens! LOL!!!
Wish you could be here too---we'd have fun!
Take care--
