Soooooo Close......

(the photo has nothing to do with the post.......I just love ginkos and they make me happy!)

.....I can almost taste---yes, taste!---these banners being complete! Yesterday yielded more good work, even with a surprise visit from a cranky DH, who had to attend a luncheon with the boss. While he expressed himself, I cooked.
Do you know how nice it is to eat real food? Not something frozen or dehydrated? Put together a pretty spectacular crab, shrimp and corn chowder, french bread and then whipped up a carrot cake with fluffy cream cheese frosting that almost went down my gullet instead of onto the cake. I am a sugar freak......it's not good.
Still, even with the *hubby-break*, all the candles are freemotioned on, the iron on stars were pinned, the basting for the hanging sleeve done and no blood on anything! (yes, there is Anne-specific DNA in every set of these I make; it's just worse with white....)
Today will be a challenge to see if I can get these one step closer to a Monday delivery. I'm waiting before I e-mail......I just want to be sure they are done. Right.
And then I swear I will not know what to do with myself.
Cry?
Run naked?
Go buy shoes? (always a good option!)
Bang my head against the keyboard?
Or get online and order the braid I would like for the Easter banners, which were half done back in March.
Decisions, decisions........
I am hoping, when the banners are delivered, they will hang them so I can try and get at least one shot of one full length. The lighting there is soft, the sanctuary huge, so it is not going to be a good pic, but sufficient so you can really appreciate the size.
Okay, time to go hide behind one of the two machines and slam the pedal to the floor. Yes, I sew like I drive......look out...... ;-)
Hope you all are having fun creative time and not too much housework before the impending Turkey-Day!

Pax.

Morning Anne!
Great comment on my post!! Grrrrrr!
*****
I used to drive like that.... foot to the floor boards but alas that was when I had a 78' Pontiac Firebird back-in-the-day.. Ahhhhh!
I now drive like an Old Geezer... Well, maybe not quite that slow but I try to enjoy the ride & not just "white-knuckle" all the way!
Can't wait to see your finished banners. I bet they will be sensational!
Have a Great Day!
Love,
Marilyn

Hey Marilyn,

Yeah, that *study* is a load of crap, and I noticed how other practitioners said they would continue to order the screenings. Man.....MAd doesn't describe it!
78 Firebird....yep, I could have got some serious tickets with THAT!!! LOL!!!! I have to watch the Cruiser...... <:)

Hi Anne! YAY!!!! You go, girlfriend. Steam will be coming off of that machine! And if you guys are talking about mammograms (above), my poor DH had to listen to me rant all day yesterday. It wasn't pretty. We have breast cancer on his side of the family, and I want our 2 girls (age 27 and 19) to get those mamms early and often. If you're not talking about that - just ignore me! LOL!!!!

Have a great day! xoxoxox Pam

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Yes Pam, we are!!!! It made me livid as I have BC in our family (mom, and bone also) and that *study* was the biggest piece of C-R-A-P I have ever read. I went ballistic!!!! (more than normal,...) All this is is about profit margins and end of quarter earnings! DAMN!
Sorry, but I know the importance of the issue from getting the call backs myself.
Okay, yes.....the machine will be as hot as my temper! >:)

Hey Marianne....it just seems to go with this time of year. I am working in panic mode, so that's the only reason I am where I am. Can't say I am enjoying it, but I am enjoying it getting DONE.
Sometimes, you have to just take the small victories!

Sweet Anne....did you post that Ginko leaf just for my viewing pleasure knowing how much I love them??? So beautiful with the sun shining through like that. I thank you!
I think women everywhere were up in arms when the news of that "study" broke. Nothing like taking 10 steps back!! No way is that going to fly.
I can see you now running the streets of Indiana, naked, in high heels, blonde hair flying, yelling at the top of your lungs, "THE BANNERS ARE DONE, THE BANNERS ARE DONE!" LOL

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Audrey---LOL!!!!!! Oh yeah, that is a frightful thought---and enough to make the fools reverse the idiot ruling on mammograms.
Yes, the ginko is for you (and me too!) as I am losing steam this a.m. Feeling like I might be getting a light case of what DH had but the weather is so bad here, I am hoping it's just that.
Running naked probably would not hurt though.....it would do *something*....like get me committed! LOL!! LOL!!
Back to the work, and I guess I should shave my legs before the nude run.....HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

By all means, prepare the body. You KNOW the "run" will make national news!!!
Keep your spirits high, stay warm and don't catch another "bug".

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

I think we should all run naked to protest the study on the ineffectiveness of early mammography, especially women who have had to have biopsies, etc.
Just go topless and swarm Wellpoint, down at Indy, where BCBS, medicare, etc are managed. I am so fumed about that, I will probably end up posting a rant......with warning attached! LOL!!!

audrey said...

You could probably sign all your followers names after your rant and send it off to the appropriate halfwits who came up with this. I am pretty certain we are all fuming about it. You, however, are really, really, good with words (and rants).
(:

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

LOL!!!!
Seriously, I would stand topless publicly and rant on camera because this is so morally and ethically wrong. I need to find the Wellpoint page that lists their CEO's and *advisory doctors* and see how many millions they are paid........since it is a publicly traded company, it's all out there to find. Women would be MORE enraged if they saw those numbers....
Sorry, but losing mom to cancer hits home on this.

NEVER, NEVER a need to be sorry, Anne. We all have someone we've lost to cancer....and there are those we know who are fighting it right now.

love the Ginko leaf photo - they're so beautiful.

Sounds like you made real headway on the banner project - congrats. I know what you mean about flooring it - I used to say I only sewed at two speed: go like hell - and stop.

I realize, as a man, I'm not in the same frame of mind as women about the latest breast exam recommendations. But know that I'm completely on your side and will sign any petitions that come my way...or whatever is done to stop such stupidity from taking hold.

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hey Tristan,

LOL!!! Yes, we sew alike! Frightening...isn't it.
You and Gary are of the same mind....he thinks it is a travesty how women are kept out of healthcare. I think there are more men who think like the two of you than get press.
I would hate to take my B.P. right now....I am awaiting the blood to shoot out my head! LOL!
But back to the banners...
And thanks on the photo; it was one of those rare moments when the light was *perfect*.

You almost made me choke on my pastry!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the ginkgo leaf. Isn't it beautiful even with the blemish - imperfectly-perfect!

I hope everything is back to normal and naked! HAHAHAH!

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Ces,

Normal, yes...pretty much so. Almost done! :)
Naked....not good! I need to rethink that one!
When I am done with these, I am hoping to start trying a few ATC's with some of the leaves I've photographed. Maybe collage, maybe pencil....don't know. I just have a little pack of the precut ATCs and I want to try the size.
I'm thinking again.....not good!LOL!!!!

Your special dinner of real foods prepared in your own kitchen will have magical powers and you can run naked any time you feel the need...I do frequently in my cabin home and Ken tells me I am going to get caught some day...HAAAAA! I understand the "blood ,sweat and tears" we put into our works but blood is always my signature lately...DNA proof that these are my scared marks. I do hope you get the photograph these exquisite banners in the sanctuary...I would love to see them. Pedal to the floor sister and God Bless. You can play bass anytime for our drumming events! Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hey Mary Helen,

I am almost done! I just have to fuse some loose edges, and then give them the once over--twice, or three times!
And it's too cold for me to run naked today....maybe tomorrow!!! LOL!!!
Oh I can't wait to get a chance to draw and paint again!!!
And here's to DNA marking our projects..... ;)

Another comment :) I am an 11, yes that is ELEVEN! year breast cancer survivor...I was diagnosed at the age of 43. I had two stage 1 lumps to make me Stage 2. I was given a 70% chance of surviving ONE year.

I found one of the lumps with self breast exam...which sent to the doc to have my annual mammo done early 2 months early. The mammogram found the 2nd lump...against my chest wall. I probably very would have found that one. The one I could feel did not show on the mammogram.

I guess you can tell what I think of the newest study!

Before I get down off my soapbox there is one more thing I want to say...Please do your monthly breast exams. I know it can be scary, but works.

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Thank you for posting that Vicki. You were one of the first people I thought of but I did not want to share personal info.
They did not know you when they gave you the one year.....have to hang in there for spite, if nothing else!!!

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Well, Vanessa, it does me good to know there are others as crazy as I am as far as making these things! And you understand then, the dilemma of what to do when they are done, which mostly I am voting for nervous breakdown and cry! (after delivery, of course!)

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Oh Leslie, I am steaming the last tiny braid around the Christ Candles......they needed a little *pop* and trying to get 1/4" steam-a-seam on this little gold lacy stuff is about to send me to Mars, but it looks sooooo good.
I just hope they look good hanging!
I am never completely relieved until they are UP......

Way to go girl! You're almost DONE and then you can have a bit of time to stir up the town.
As for the mammography news, I haven't heard it here in Canada, but I gather it's not good. Makes me wonder if we're heading back to the days when women were definitely second-class and weren't even allowed to vote! Is that next? Cripes. I thought mammos had proven themselves time and time again and should be a 'given' in health care. Now here I am, getting all PO'd and I really don't know why - I only know I should!! Grrr.

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hey M.A.

There has been a lot of back pedaling here in the news about that report. I was reading this evening and I guess the American women went ballistic with the report!
I read the comments from some of the researchers and their reasons for the recommendations were rather vague. I'm not sure where their heads were; one of them was a woman, who works with the VA women vets.......
I refuse to be a second class citizen, as well as others here, thank heavens!
I will sew the final sequins on the banners tomorrow and then be done! And then.....well......collapse! LOL!!

Oh, I am a sugar addict too. I would probably eat just about anything with powdered sugar on it as long as I didn't know what it was! I can't wait to see the pics of your banners hanging...so much work. Another beautiful photo, Anne. I love digital for the instant gratification, but I do miss my good old Canon AE1...completely manual. I would be interested in any advice you have to offer regarding an SLR...actually I would greatly appreciate and respect any advice from you...your photos are stunning. **blows tired little kisses** Deb

We used to have a cabin in the woods of Brown County (family property) but it became too much to keep up. I miss that part of the state the way it used to be....undeveloped and beautiful!
