How To Spend Halloween.......

Something to consider for
Halloween Evening......a little story...

Many years ago, these two silly people decided despite their age,
Halloween was for dressing up and enjoying the evening!

Then later in their lives, they discovered that New Orleans was THE place to be
for Halloween.....stopping by LaFittes Blacksmith Shoppe Tavern......

Or just hanging on the corner of Bourbon Street
until dusk begins to fall.....it's all good.....
lots of *spirits* in the air there!

You might find a zombie willing to pose before
an evening in the mayhem of the French Quarter's
Streets, rife with costumes, parades and revelry......

.....Or maybe run into this *gentleman* in the courtyard on your way out.......
(it's not Mike Ness, but close!)
Better give him a tip to pass by.......  ;-)

Need a driver to see the sites?
What better than a Devil-Girl in a Flame Mobile????
The cost is minimal.....not money.....something a bit
more personal.....a bit more like, your soul?
Or get ready for a bit of VooDoo with her
doll under the belt, she's ready for business!

The only stop for this macabre taxi is the crypt of Marie LaVeau,
the VooDoo Queen of The Quarter.
Buried in St. Louis #1 Cemetary, go
lay your offering down humbly and mark three X's
made with brick on the tomb;
perhaps your wish will be granted!

And here's a wish from two Fiends.......(oh,what
that couple at the top turned into! what NOLA did to them!).....

...May the Spirits of the Night find you
and keep you company!
Muh-hahahaha!!!!!!

I knew you guys were my kind of people! LOL!! You look wicked cool, my dear, as does your hubby. Thanks for the smiles this morning as I try and shake many cobwebs from my head. Have a wonderful Halloween, Anne! xoxoxoxo Pam

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hey Pam,

I've decided to leave the cobwebs in there.....I think they hold my brain in place. LOL!!!
Yes, we ARE your kind of people! I wanted somethng cool to post for Halloween, but something that really reflected *us*---because for us it is New Orleans and masquerade and parades and the voodoo history and FUN!
That little VooDoo doll in my belt was a gift from my friend Jan who posts here; he is always in a little niche at the foot of my stairs with three felted woll sacred hearts. Halloween IS my normal decor....cobwebs included!
Have a great one tomorrow!!!

Hey Marianne.....YOU GO!!!!!
It's pouring rain here, and where we live no place to go but a hillbilly bar (ick) so we will be staying in and watching movies. Last year we dressed to have a Halloween evening home! This year I'm too tired.....
Have a blast!

Great pics! Makes my "dryer" costume look pretty lame....gotta go pin socks on me....

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Linda....LOL!!!!
On Gary's birthday I tried to get him to let me pin a dollar on his jacket before he went to teach; in the Quarter, on your birthday, friends and passerbys will pin a buck to you. Peopl go down the street unmolested with this cash pinned to them! I don't know where the tradition started, but it is one of those cool and unusual delights of the region!
And I always have socks and lint stuck to me....usually with dark knit clothing on..... >:(
Have fun!

What a wonderful tour of the Big Easy on Halloween! Your costumes are terrific - but, then, that hardly comes as a surprise to the needle goddess!

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

I hate to admit that they were purchased....but make-up, AH! I'm good at shoveling that on!!!
I wish we all could take off for NOLA together and raise some cane!!! What a ball we would have!!!

Love ya,

Hey Georgina!

I want you to know that the last pic, where I am in skull face took me over an hour to get that painted on. When we went out on the streets in the Quarter, we were asked to have people pose with us over and over and over. Gary was keeping count and at least 50 pics were taken! It was a ball---we walked in the Halloween parade and all over Bourbon Street--we never even got dinner! I couldn't venture a guess at the miles we walked that night.
And I loved that pic on your blog!!! MORE!!!!!
Happy Halloweenie!!!!

You two sure know how to have fun! Halloween is such a great excuse to dress up. As you know Steve and I have done this out here in the boonies and trick or treated our neighbors. They are so surprised to have anyone on their doorsteps, they have no idea who we are but they let us walk right into their homes as they back away from these apparitions. It is hilarious! I wonder who we can hit this year? Thanks for all these great pix. I'll bet they were fun for you to review too.

P.S. you look good as a red head.

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hey Jan,

Did you see your little VooDoo doll you made me tucked in my belt in the devil girl pic??? He had to be there!
That one with the red hair was from either when we were dating or right after we got married; there is NO WAY that DH would let me spray his hair orange now!!! LOL!!
No dressing up this year, just a plastic pumpkin full of chewies and movies. It's okay!
I think it's a hoot you and Steve go out! Get that candy!!!
Have a good one!

P.S. I had another great pic of Gary that has *disappeared*.....I so wanted to post it. I'm not even sure where the negs are for it. Pre-digital!

WOW! What great, fun pictures!!
So glad you shared them with us. You are one wild and crazy lady, miss Anne, and we love it!!
In the past, I have always dressed up, sat on the front porch with spooky music playing and handed out the candy to 200-300 little ones. That was in Ohio. Where we live now, on a cul-de-sac, on the side of a little mountain, with few homes in the area, we get zip halloweeners. ): I do miss that.
We need to have Halloween night just for the adults about once a month!!! LOL.
((hugs))
audrey
PS - I was happy to hear you started working on the "heart". I'm excited!! (: Just work it in during your breaks!! No hurry!!

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hey Audrey,

We live in the country and it used to be people would drive kids out everywhere. The first pic was a year we passed out candy.
Out here, there is no one, so we just hang out and get waaaaaay too much sugar!
I agree---there should be a once a month, adult-dress-up-as-whatever day! Other than dress to go to work.....
Oh, I had to start on the heart as a rest from the banners---so heavy I have to take breaks....I think you'll like it!

Anne you are a total HOOOOOT!!!! he he he he! I love this blog! YOU ROCK totally without doubt. I'm not can caning either. I've been having some back problems these last few days. PMS is a YOU KNOW WHAT! I'm headed for the change and I welcome it!

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Listen honey, I am IN it and I thought before, "Oh, this will be wonderful."
Waking up about three times a night with hot flashes like someone set a roman candle off in your arse is NOT FUN! I'm trying to figure out what the heck I'm going to do when I go to hospital for the hip, because having the surgeon walk in in the a.m. for rounds and finding me naked except for socks is definitely going to increase my total bill!!!
Psycho therapy is NOT cheap......OY.
Hope ya get feeling better!

Love this post!!!! OMG just fabulous. I love Halloween it is my all time favourite. Will you be dressing up this year?
I thought I might just have my rat girls hang out on my shoulder while I dole out the treats.......and hope none of them dive into a bag :-)

Think I'll just have to watch Rocky Horror tonight

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...

Hey Jill,

We love Rocky Horror!!! Probably won't dress up this year but that's okay......I'll pretend I'm a homicidal maniac---they look just like everyone else! LOL!!!!
I think that would be a hoot with the candy!

Like I said before you two kids have too much fun...not really because we should all be as playful as you have demonstrated over the years. I think the spookiness of Halloween brings us all our childhoods once again. Imagine and Live in Peace, Mary Helen

Hey Mary Helen,

I think our generation enjoys Halloween because we grew up in the era when it was the very best. You had neighborhoods, everyone knew everyone, it was a fun night, and that is something that stays with a person.
I wonder now, with all the restrictions some groups put on little kids (can't dress as this, can't go out, can't, can't can't) what Halloween will be like in the future?
I am hoping old farts like ourselves (DH and I) pass that spirit on.....
Have a great one!!!!
