Ha! Makes me feel not so *nuts*!!! Was amazed when I got out there how bright thigs were when I could get rid of the sky relfection. Of course, I was cold and wet when I came in...... And feel it all over for days.... ;)
LOL! You gals are something! How on earth do you hold umbrella AND camera and be steady? However, your photos are flawless! Theres always something beautiful each season...you captured these well, Anne! gypsy
Well, I don't know about Vicki, but I get the cheap umbrella that weighs nothing, cram it in an arm and hand, use my camera on auto focus, try and zoom in and out with one finger, and focus the same......it's like juggling cats! Vicki, on the other hand, uses a REAL camera that has to be hand focused (lens) and set, so I don't know....maybe her husband holds the umbrella for her! It was just one of those days...too good an opportunity to miss! And I'm crazy, too. That helps.
Thank you for sharing these. There are some things I see that remind me there is a God, among them autumn foliage and each individual leaf following a script of sprouting, expanding, changing colors, falling, withering.
Yesterday I was on call and therefore plan to not get a lot of slepp. I am sure several times these week there will be lots of napping instead of dinner and my loving Viking will take care of preparing dinner.
Have a beautiful Sunday! We have good weather here today. I can wear long sleeves without perspiring! Yay!
Schlepping is GOOD! That is sleep, rest, lounging, doing nothing...I think I need that, but I keep looking at the twelve yards of fabric on the cutting table and feeling GUILT arise from the depths of my being....and that's a LONG WAY! (although Deborah can beat me--36" inseam! I am impressed!) I love Autumn----of course I love Spring too. I guess I just love trees and the magical way they pass from what appears to be complete death into vibrant life, then that halo of massive, waving green all summer, and finally the ruddied petticoats of fallen leaves in the beginning slumber of the year. God's paintbrush at work...wonderfully! Now go schlep!
P.S. to Ces.....I carried acorns from live oaks home from New Orleans one year, forgot them in my purse, and opened it a month later to find there were little worms that had lived in the acorns and wanted OUT! (and thankfully were DEAD) I still kept the acorns....if you love them, you love them......
Yep, I concur with Linda Moran, the desert has it's beauty too...soon the rattle snakes will be burring in their holes, so it will be safe to go out into the desert without having to watch your step...not, cattle still roam and you know what that means??!
Those leaves are incredible...around here everything goes from brown to green then green to brown. In northern NM the high desert is really fabulous...the road up to Santa Fe from Albuquerque is amazing...the desert looks as if it's on fire...love it!!
Well, need to get ready for a luncheon. Again, I was invited, by default, to an 87th birthday party and Miss Daisy and her pals need a ride...need to come up with a really neat chauffeur sounding name...any suggestions???
Linda....oh my...80 and the windows open! I have them glued shut when it gets that hot, but everything is relative! LOL!!! Still would like to visit the desert again, during cool season, no doubt!
Hey Georgina...I'll have to give the chauffeur name some thought...it has to be GOOD. St. Georgina of the Ever-Moving Auto....or from the order of Long Suffering Driving Sisters! LOL!!
Those leaves are so gorgeous, they are more colorful than the paper ones I was gluing onto a project yesterday. Is one of the varieties a Gum tree? We haven't had a lot of color here yet. After last nights frost things will change. I better take a long walk today and enjoy it while I can.
I don't think any of the ones I shot are in the gum family....mostly tulip poplar, maple, redbud, and there was another lost soul in there I don't remember...maybe locust? It was a "run-and-shoot" which is pretty well what my brain is like at the moment. We were supposed to get a freeze last evening and if I can walk far enough and have good light, I want to get some of the leaves down the road. (walk, as in BY MYSELF. ahem...) Hope yours have turned pretty!!!! I need to collect some to press....
Oh Anne.... The photography is beautiful!! We just got back from our excursion of shopping & I got some sock yarn. I just love the socks you knitted & I am gonna' give it a try!! I will blog about it tomorrow. Right now... I am exhausted. Am just gonn' sit on my you-know-what & watch the game!! Have a great day!! Hugs, Marilyn
I have yarn out for another pair; got the Noro's done and need to post them, but I have to put them on to shoot them....so it may be a few days! I'm ready to head up and sit on my you-know-what and watch a movie, and maybe knit something plain and easy.....yeah..... ;) Enjoy the game!
I come via Georgina's blgo and she is right about your blog. You have an awesome blog and I will be back. I love your photos, they seem to pop right out. Thanks for sharing your creativity. Take care.
Viewing these photos I can almost smell fall and feel the moisture on my face. You've done a great job capturing nature's beauty. Thanks for sharing with us.
Hey Glorv!--- Welcome! Thanks for the kind words---come back any time and browse; sometimes it's drivle, sometimes it actually GOOD! LOL!! (I make no promises as towhich will be the larger percentage!)
Thanks! It is starting to smell more like Fall....mostly it was moist FEET and rear sticking out of the umbrella....sigh.... <:) But still, the leaves were fun!
What a heavenly Liliodendron! They never turn red here, only gold but how could one complain about that.
Anne, there are a lot of frost hardy roses around, in the whites there are two of my favourites JFK and Mount Shasta. For the winter season cut them down to within 6-8"off the ground and cover with sacking of wrap in thick newspaper. A decent snow cover should keep them safe from deep freezing the stems. Iceberg is a beautiful rose but I am not certain about its frost hardiness.
Take heart, be a devil and plant one, life is too short to live without roses.
My previous house had wonderful soil. When we moved, we got clay that is absolutely death for roses other than a couple of old fashioned I have from my gardens my grandmother had. I have a feeling there is so much subsoil up top (grey clay) that everything stays too wet and rots. I've tried others, but am down to three, and they thrive. I just get a little rose envy now and then! ;) The tulip poplar has behaved uncharacteristically this year; I think it was drought. There were only a couple that bright, and I'm not sure the rain and sky did not have something to do with it (photo). Usually they are more orange to rust.
Anne...I have a waterproof cover for my camera! And I use auto-focus under those circumstances.
I don't usually use an umbrella, but since I was in the "big" city, I thought I'd be civilized and use one. It was very cumbersome, closed and under my arm most of the time! ~8-)
I am thinking about upgrading my camera and your photos are magical in composition and color quality. The moistness and cleanliness is ever so evident and somewhat serene just to see and delve into the exquisite beauty found in Nature. Thank you for this cool pause for refreshment. Welcome! Gald you stopped by, thanks for following and hope that the content stays interesting here! some days it's good, some days, well, you know---eh! (and that might be today...)
My DH chose my camera for me; the last I owned was film and I did not have a clue as to digital. I told him what I wanted/needed and he got me a Fuji, which I have never regretted. It is one step below the professional model, does tons of stuff i've not tried yet.....I just run and shoot! I am not sure what else that camera is really capable of.....maybe I should read the manual..... ;)

Gorgeous! I miss autumn - the desert has its own seasons - but now it's low 80s and we can have the doors and windows open all the time!

Just can not get enough leaf photos - don't forget to pick some of them up and press them in a book for later.

Hey Teri,
I did remember to collect some of the ginko before the rains started. Those go so quickly; they seem to drop all at once.

Our fall colour is covered in sleety snow. Fire in the fireplace and knitting with my own handspun yarn! Earl Grey in the mug. Life's good.
Oooooo, rather have sleety snow than overcast and chill, which is all we have today. Ick.
Your end sounds much better than here!
